  • Tokyo is often praised for its efficient and modern rail system. However, its tangled and colorful transit maps often cause confusion. The Tokyo train system is very complex, but with help of this video, you can break it down so your travel experience in Japan (once we're all allowed to travel again) will be very smooth. This video features:
    -The SUICA farecard
    -High Speed Shinkansen Trains
-JR Trains as well as Commuter Railways
    -Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway
    -Station Numbering
    -Green Cars
-Suggestions for apps to make your travels easier
And so much more. You won't wanna miss this. Because especially in Japan:

When i live in Tokyo Katsushika, I don't like old looking Keisei Line cars. But now i miss it... how adorable these junky celling fans.

Btw is the app you recommended better than google maps. A friend told me google maps was the easiest to use and there really wasn't any need for a different service 🤔

@@esthervolkening3568 especially during the pandemic I’ve found google to be a little unreliable. But I don’t really know, when I lived there everyone I knew used Jorudan. This is super informative! Really cool. We used to live in Osaka and would see the Nozomi pass our station every few minutes. It was awesome. Now we live outside Tokyo. Any advice for spots to see the haybusa around Tokyo?

Either the platforms at Kanda Station (JY 02), there’s a park in Ōji called Asukayama Park, or there’s a viewing area in the restaurant of the railway museum in Ōmiya

Many years ago (let's say 30) I lived in Tokyo for a year or so. I commuted to work, from home, in Sakuragawa, from Kami Itabashi to Ikebukuro on the Tobu Tojo line From there I changed to a train to Takadanobaba, and walked to work. Really intimidating the first time. The key to public transport in Japan is trust in the system, and knowing how the minimise your "projected" personal space.
    BTW, Amtrak rocks!

That was really informative. I knew about the color codes but never the train codes... I just assumed that's what the letters were but they didn't really match the name of the line. I will have to try the Jorudan app next time.

You have to know what express suburban train to take having so many names including rapid, rapid express, express, semi express, limited express, special express, rapid express, special rapid, commuter rapid. Knowing what train to take if you head to a small station.

I'm going to Japan soon for the first time and I get to take two different shinkansens. I'm so excited because it honestly seems like the trains are part of the wonderful experience of visiting this country. I've also done a deep dive and know there are soo soooooo many trains in Japan. They have super luxury trains where you can experience some of the best customer service and fine dining money can offer, these can be sleeper trains or even extend two to three days, they cost an arm and a leg but again, this is only the tip of the iceberg. You could live in this country and you would never come close to riding all of the different trains, and thats not even mentioning all of the new ones they are constantly building to further connect their country!
Simply put, Japan is fucking awesome.

@@Thom-TRA It's pretty cookie cutter in some ways, but there are some few surprises. If I enjoy the country as much as I think I will I am going to eventually explore the country for an entire 90days.
Hopefully you can get back there at some point. By 2030 there are going to be a few new shinkansens and they will go even faster.

Have you been to Tokyo? Probably not.
The colour-coded map simply allows you to choose the best connections to get where you want. It works perfectly, but if you don't have one, or a map of any kind, you could end up walking all day, never finding what you want, and missing things that might interest you. You clearly have no idea of the logical complexity of the Tokyo or Osaka underground systems. Even choosing the incorrect exit will take you a long way from where you want to be.
