Ben, I've watched your videos for more than 2 yrs now and apologize for only now saying: Thank you for creating them and sharing your insights. They're extremely helpful and appreciated. Looking forward to more and hope to meet you during quiet moments (i.e., pre- or post-) of next year's rides.
Thanks very much. I'll be at a bunch of the US gravel events in 2025, a couple inGamba events in Tuscany (wanna come? 😀), Sea Otter, and hopefully some more adventures.
@@TheRidewithBenDelaney Would love to join but I'm already taking 2 weeks off work for vaca in the Philippines. Might even take in a bike ride there. Will look for you at the Belgian Waffles. Training to try placing at Unbound in 2027. If you do them, I'll look for you at the 2025 Belgian Waffles.
Been a wahooligan for over 5 years with the Bolt (gen 1 and 2), does everything I need and more. Honestly, I don't see the need to consider this new Ace, yet.
Thanks for this detailed first look. It always fascinated me why Wahoo is staying behind on the tech features. And again, this thought came to me with this new unit. Just 30 hours of battery? and this is one of the complaints i could say . At least they nailed the screen size,( but not brightness ! ) for us, eye tired people and bikepackers. Next update , a amoled screen in 7 years.....😂
Large display ... Yes I like that... Touch screen... Not a big fan for rain Reasons... Speaker... A blip will do the same ... Wind measurement... I see that useful for race or pro training race... But is no CDA accurate. And VAM does way more and still not explored deeply Well I see wahoo walk long gone from low cost... On this one... I will be looking for something else entirely different... In my humble opinion wahoo u turned on more useful needs (Ideas)... Signal power... Quick turn on and signal... Longer Battery life... battery share capabilities... Solar charge... Screen shock protection... And memory capacity... Even integrated lighting for some night riding stuff around the cockpit... Thanks Ben nice review.
It's a handy feature, right? Hammerhead had it first, but now the other players offer it too. In my experience, it is a little random for what it determines the top of a climb to be, but still useful.
@@TheRidewithBenDelaney Love my Bolt V2 and this function. yes, can be out by 150-200m or so to the summit. Depressing when battling the climb & desperate for it to end. But the countdown gives you a boost to keep going, esp when clicks below 1k into m.
A technical question. Inside the wind sensor slot, insects and dust can enter, but especially with humidity and rain. Isn't the device damaged by dust and especially moisture that enters?
Tell me please, no one shows how many data fields fit on the map. Are there 6 fields available like ROAM? And if it also has 6 fields, is the map still useful - visible.
Just checked. You can do a max of six fields, plus the elevation graph. The si fields take up a little more than a quarter of the screen, and the graph is about the same. If I ran 6 fields, I'd get rid of the graph.
@@TheRidewithBenDelaney Thanks for your reply. In the future, show the number of data fields on the map. This is crucial for many users. I only go to the page with the map.
What happened to the good old days when all you need is a no-frills approach to hopping on your bike filled with a sense of adventure and love for just the ride? Nowadays it seems so many people are suckered into buying atrociously overpriced and superfluous bike "accessories" that are absolutely unnecesasary. C'mon bikers, stop buying into the madness... Oh wait, I'm one of those suckers.
Exactly - I said something similar elsewhere. Remember being a kid and just having fun on your bike? Too many wannabe pros are taking it all too seriously......
We used to warranty in ungodly amount of Wahoo computers when I worked at a bike shop over the last several years. Wahoo's build quality completely turned me off to the brand but I hope they've improved!
I have no idea why bike shops are supposed to warranty cycling computers. It's literally more closer to something like phone or laptop than anything bike related. That should rather go to electronics shop.
Color me a skeptic. I don’t want to automatically shun new advancements but having recently halved my data fields in search of a simpler ride, this extra, and limited, functionality doesn’t impress me. I am open to spending money on bigger, better mapping. I think there’s more to refine in that area.
When I look at these devices, all I see is a TomTom, like the one he used to have in his car. The Apple Watch and iPhone already offer most of the necessary features. You can simply mount your iPhone on your bike. There's no need for another device!
"All" of the GARMIN biased people scream about the price i guess, but... ACE features a speaker to navigate bei voice, a very good battery life, tactile buttons AND finally a big clear touchscreen, besides the wind sensor its a direct competitor to the 1050 in a more subtle design for no more costs I guess. I like wahoo and their drive to useful innovations for serious riders out there.
I nearly fell asleep! not because of your review Ben, but because of how boring and unnecessary the world of bike tech ‘innovation’ has become 🙃 …A wind speed sensor? please... 🤣🤣 ...to tell me what I’m already feeling in the real world ? ...like a gravity sensor to tell me how slow I’m climbing? Hilarious.

Btw, I use the Bolt V2 GPS, which is good enough for my needs.

I’ve been waiting for the wind sensor. However, I’m holding out for the tidal force and the elevation based micro-gravity meter functionality.
Definitely deal breakers, strange oversight from Wahoo not to include
Finally, I can capture wind data results to blame for poor riding results.
Or more likely, it will say there was no wind, and you can't hide that you just didn't have the legs! 😂
@@mjcau That's when we get to say Wahoo released the device before it was ready.
But this counter is heavy, heavier than previous counters, so what you gain by avoiding the wind will be taken away by the large weight of the counter
The bike frames becoming lighter so your bike computer can be heavy, logical 😅
LOLOL. The best intro for any wahoo review I've seen. Love it!

Lucky you, have good eyes. I love the size so I can see it better.
The wind sensor is there for the bike riders who calls themselves “pilots.” It will activate a bar shaker to warn of an impending stall.
I'll hold out for the new Avocet computer
Great review. When you mentioned “…550 pounds…” I thought you were describing the unit’s weight. 😄
Close! It's a chonker. But not quite that heavy...

It has a wind sensor? Does any man on the planet need to be told when he farted?? 😂
But at £550!!😮 it seems like a lot of hot air to me? 🙄

The ELEMNT ACE Does it have an ambient temperature sensor? I can't find any information about it 🙄
Someone tell wahoo ibike newton had a wind sensor when they were still selling boat docks 😂
My Wahoo Bolt also gives you climb info without being on a route.

wind sensor for ITT it will help you find a optimal position/posture.

Good question. I don't know. I'll ask.
What about battery life? Have you been able to test it?
Ace vs 1050. Who is the king?

The ibike didn’t ever work…😢
That was my experience too.
If they make the wind thing actually generate power, so you never have to charge it, I'm SOLD!
My wife did COMPLIANCE for and airport wind/weather system manufacturing company and sonic wind sensors our quite difficult

You call it an "aero sensor" but that's not true is it.

Crap, really? What was a common issue with them?
@ USB charging ports always going bad, LCD screens dying/getting spots on them, refusing to charge. Those were the most common.

Bigger screens, heavier batteries…. Let’s get the frame designers With the bike computers, in the same room.🤭
there is nothing more annoying than a gravel race filled with Wahoo turn alert chirps.

If your phone has OIS, it will slowly ruin your camera from all the vibrations

Headwind sensor is so useless. I wonder what next: sun sensor, day light sensor?

Speakers 🔊 YES 👍
Wind sensor 💨 absolutely useless.
