  • Today we will speak with Rachel Giannini who will discuss the importance of early childhood education in the first five years of her life and the activities we can do to foster his growth even at our own home. She is a former preschool educator and the star of the early childhood education documentary, No Small Matter.
Over 11 million children spend an average of 34 hours a week in the care of somebody other than their parents. The Perry Preschool Project and Abecedarian Project established the lasting human and financial value of early childhood education and the importance of brain development in the first five years of your child's life. This is highlighted by many longitudinal studies that show that children who have high quality, early preschool experiences, where you see teachers engaging with children, asking open-ended questions, do better long-term.
It's important to realize that 250,000 neurological connections are being made in our child's brain every single minute. As a result, every moment in our child's life is an opportunity for a teachable moment. Even if your child doesn't attend preschool, having an engaged parent who talks to their children, reads books, and encourages open-ended play, will do amazingly well when they go into school because that's the same thing that preschool teachers do in the classroom. A well-developed early childhood education program is a place to engage with other kids, but at the core of it, it's us asking questions and encouraging children to explore on their own, everything a parent can do in the home.

Early Childhood education and nutrition during pregnancy are super important determinants of a child's IQ.

My favorite toys when I was like 3 and 4 were paper towel rolls, toilet paper rolls construction paper and tape and safety scissors. I used to make tunnels and furniture and houses for my pet rat named Kingo.

Love that! Yes simplicity is best - parents don’t need to buy a bunch of expensive toys! Love that it also encourages your creativity too!

When someone who is not an under 5 years of age educator advocates for under 5 year old preschool educators, it will be easier to believe.

This isn't just about IQ development but fostering a solid foundation to support them in all areas of their life.
