This was excellent!!!!! Have have seen so many productions of Utopia. Director's please take note. Do not fool with Gibert & Sullivan. If it's played straight it is a riot, such as this minstrel number. Never under estimate Gilbert's words & stage directions, nor Sullivans music,,,,,,
What a superb performance--great singing, great comic timing, and beautifully done business with the tambourines. I also admire the panache and biting wit of the topical verses. Bravo, bravo!
@@marypagones6073 It is a very good performance indeed. I did not mean the term “amateurs” to be derogatory in any way whatsoever. They are an amateur company and perform with professional panache.
This is such a fantastic performance! I've long been a fan of this play, and King Paramount is one of my favorite G&S characters. The blacklight work was quite a good touch. There is a very Monty Pythonish air in this particular song.
@@ShaddySoldier : Oh I'd love to have it. I watch this quite often and LOL each time. It's simply the BEST G&S ever. How fabulous to live close enough to attend the Seattle G&S performances. Lucky YOU, Shaddy!
I love this song!! Utopia Limited is such an awesome play but gets so little acknowledgement. I love their tamborine work here, it's hilarious, although the glowing bit was rather odd. Interesting, though. Your king's acting is wonderful too. He seems like he wants to keep his dignity but he wants to be part of this rather rowdy group too. AWESOME.
For some reason this show so seldom ever is staged at all, so thank you for giving me this opportunity to see it at all, let alone such a great production!
The updated lyrics are pretty poor -- notice there is only one actual rhyme in two entire verses! -- and the partisan politics are very, very unGilbertian -- but the performance, staging, lighting, etc., are all first-rate. The writing is crap, but other than that -- EXTREMELY well-done.
The extra verses are entirely in the Gilbertian spirit - topical and merciless!

Considering that these performers are amateurs. This a very witty and well timed performance. Very high standard indeed. Thanks Seattle.
Amateurs? Wow, this is one of the best renditions I've seen of this tune!

@@madgeson So true! I was surprised myself to learn this was an amateur production.
I've met the actors, they're good people.

What fun. Wish I could see the entire performance. Seattle puts on first class productions. Lucky are the people who live close enough to attend.
It was a great performance I was in the front row there. Seattle G&S sells dvds but they run out alot

Thank you for performing and posting Utopia!
Razor sharp timing! Dave's update verses are in the tradition, hilarious and all too relevant, hehe. One of the great items in the G&S canon.
Superb! "A contract for assembly of the Seven Eighty Seven" - gold!

@@ginawiggles918 it was a wonderful show. There is a reason this and the mikado are my fravourite. Got to see them front row too!
WONderful! I look forward to many more clips! I've shared this on Fb. Thanks, guys!
great work!
Quite brilliant.
Oh God, this makes me so happy! I want to move to Seattle.
Bravo!
And just how accurate was Gilbert with his predictions about Government in England.
The second repetition of the chorus at the end needs to be faster!
