Everything about Candyman is great. From the setting, to the music, to the acting, to the storyline, to the metaphorical interpretations of the themes. And it all holds up well decades later. Which is the mark of a classical masterpiece.

My mom rented candy man when I was really young and I watched it with her(Horrible decision on my moms part ) needless to say the movie never got finished that night. I was terrified of it and my mom even turned it off because she couldn't take it ....for years after that I was terrified of bathroom mirrors. I completely agree wih you for putting Candy man at #1

Great list, buddy! If we're excluding Silence of the Lambs and Scream (which I think is necessary), then my #1 Original 90's horror would have to be From Dusk Till Dawn. Simply one of the most entertaining horror films I've ever seen. With a dynamic duo in Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, you just can't beat it. Great video.

I agree silence of the lambs is there an awesome movie but I think it falls more under the psychological thriller rather than horror.
    1. NightBreed
    2. Wishmaster
    3. People Under The Stairs
    4. Night of The Living Dead (remake)
    5. Scream
    6. Urban Legend
    7. In The Mouth of Maddness
    8. John Carpenters Vampires
    9. Stephen King's the Night flyer
    10. Stephen King's sleepwalkers
I don't think I can include these as they are not theatrical movies but I feel the need to mention the 1990 Stephen King's Mini series and The 1994 Mini series of Stephen King's the stand

If I were to compare horror to professional wrestling, I’d say that the 80’s horror was the attitude era and 90’s horror is the PG era. The 90’s just did not have that same quantity and quality as the 80’s, but it wasn’t without its gems. Certainly, films like Candyman, Silence of the Lambs, Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight, Scream, and Wishmaster are classics that stand tall during a rather bland era for the genre.

    @Jaykilljoy-tt9tt ปีที่แล้ว

Ya. Reppin the 90's. "It's a psychological thriller" Ya....and it's a horror movie. That is and always has been a false dichotomy. Now some people would expect "Hey, Jay...your a huge true crime. Surely your a big fan of Silence of the lambs and Hannibal Lector". Actually I am not. For multiple reasons. One of the main reasons is....that is HOLLYWOOD "serial killers". That was another issue I had with "The trinity killer" in the Dexter franchise. Again, I can't think of a single real life serial killer who was like what is depicted in Silence of the lambs and Dexter's Trinity killer.
Still love Dexter. Still like Silence of the lambs...but favorite of the decade? Come on, Silence of the lambs is good, but there are better, far more awesome films.
    For me it would be.
1.Cemetary man; one of all time favorite movies. I consider it my personal life manifesto. A masterpiece. It always depresses me to think Michele Sovai didn't direct more movies. Last year I watched his film The sect. Terrible script, boring plot...but Sovai's directing....damn. He had the power to turn an awful, plain, generic as hell, boring movie into a masterpiece in terms of directing. Really sucks he didn't direct more movies. The guy could of been one of the Italian greats. Love Cemetary man. Probably my favorite zombie movie.
2.Copycat; "Did you know that more books have been written about Jack the ripper then Abraham Lincoln?" "It's a sick world, isn't it Helen?"
This movie is SO DAMN CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED. Other then Don't go in the house and Maniac this is probably my favorite "serial killer movie" [I guess you can add Eyes of a stranger to that list as well. If Maniac is a serial killer/slasher movie then Eyes of a stranger is too. I watched Eyes of a stranger last year. It was awesome. Loved it.] It's perfect. Great acting, great story, great dialog, great everything. Love it. Absolute masterpiece. I remember watching this on HBO, but my memory of it was vague and I never saw it from start to finish. Always had some vague memories of it. So I tracked it down around 2015 and damn was I impressed. Sigourney Weaver is awesome in it. I have no idea why Silence of the lambs is this beloved 90's film, while Copycat is often ignored. I'd take Copycat over Silence of the lambs any day.
3.Ticks; Love this movie. Always have. I'd see it on scifi, I owned the VHS. An awesome movie. One of my all time favorite creature features and animals attack movies. Seth Green and Alfonso Ribeiro are awesome in it. Great dialog. Just perfect. I was hoping with the ending we'd get a Ticks 2...but I am actually glad we didn't. I remember around 2005, 2006 sitting around going "When is there gonna be a Ticks part 2?" and then going "wait....horror sucks now. I hope they don't make a part 2." lol. Love Ticks. One of my childhood favorites. Love the 90's California teen look to the movie. I remember once coming back from summer camp and I was watching Ticks on scifi. Still summer and while I was watching Ticks I actually found a tick on my body.
4.The night flier; Love this movie. Love the true crime reporter. Love the vampire. Just love everything about it. Love the dialog. Just perfect. Love the soundtrack. Love the characters. Flawless movie as far as I am concerned.
5.Pet Semetary 2: Love this movie. Love Edward Furlong, but Clancy Brown is clearly the star of the show. Absolutely terrified and disturbed me as a kid. For multiple reasons. One is the fact that the film spoke to me on a very very personal level....Clancy Brown not only looked like but also acted like my mom's drunk abusive ex boyfriend. I could 100% relate to Furlong's friend Drew.
When Clancy Brown hits the family photo with the claw hammer....that just f**king killed me. So incredibly disturbing. With all his threats I was always afraid "How far is this gonna go?!" I had the same jacket Furlong wore. The soundtrack is awesome. Always loved the soundtrack. It's creepy as hell. It's really disturbing. The directing and lighting is awesome. I 100% agree with the main character from Christmas bloody Christmas. It's Mary Lambert as a director unleashed and it's f**king awesome. I really wish she would of done more horror movies. Great acting, great dialog, great atmosphere, great soundtrack. Great everything. It's everything great about Pet Semetary but taken to another level. Lots of respect for Mary Lambert.
6.The rage: Carrie 2: Love this movie. So criminally underrated. To me it's a perfect sequel. Of all the possible Carrie sequels they could of made, they made this and it's a perfect balance. I love it. I am never bored. I am always personally invested. I love Rachel the main character. Love the whole love story. Love the disturbing mean spirited football/popular group. When Rachel finally loses and starts killing them all I am going "They f**king deserve it! KILL THEM ALL!"...when the main bully gets his head hit with the pool cover and he slowly drowns and we actually see it...I'm always disturbed and sadden by that because drowning has always been a big fear of mine and I think about sad it is because none of this had to of happened. This @$$h0le was just a product of this f**ked up town and society. We even see this when he's publicly humiliated by the coach and he barely reacts. Like such abusive behavior is NORMAL.
7.Bram Stoker's Dracula; at the time as a child I use to think of this movie as a 'Mainstream' melodrama 'sexy' Dracula movie...I'd see it on TV and watch it. Cut of course. Damn was I wrong though. This Dracula movie is hardcore and absolutely beautiful. I love it. A masterpiece. Not "mainstream" at all. Love it.
8.Interview with the vampire; Love this movie. Great everything. Vampires through time. Perfect idea. Very gothic. Not "mainstream" at all. Pretty hardcore. Great plot, great story, great dialog, great acting. Kirsten Dunst as the forever little child vampire is terrifying. Love her acting and character.
9.The Frighteners; How come NOBODY ever talks about this movie?! Seriously....am I the ONLY ONE who remembers this movie and seen it multiple times since?!
The frighteners is awesome. I remember watching it for the first time and it terrified me. I was drawing fan art of Death in the movie. I watch it ever 3 or 4 years. It's awesome. Michael J. Fox is awesome in it. Jake Busey's best performance other then Starship troopers. The ghosts are awesome. It's creepy as hell. Captures the disturbing essence of 90's true crime. Awesome movie. I think it's Peter Jackson's best film. I love Bad taste and Dead alive, but I think he outdid him self with this movie.
10.Arachnophobia: Childhood favorite. I am afraid of spiders, but to a far lesser extent then other people. So I suffer from a mild form of arachnophobia. I have far more of a issue with claustrophobia. I love the humor. Perfect balance of PG-13, comedy, and horror all mixed together. Like Gremlins. The spiders are awesome and very well done.
    My original 10th. Honorable mention.
Jacob's ladder: Talk about a nightmarish acid trip. The bathtub scene is absolutely terrifying. A lot of people are/were apparently confused about this movie. As a 10, 11, 12, year old I didn't fully understand the plot. Then I rewatched it when I was like 21, 22, 23 and I was like "Oh, so that's what happened." Great psychological horror film. The bathtub scene is absolutely terrifying. I feel like I am being psychologically traumatized just watching that scene. Great story, great dialog, great plot, great acting all around. Just perfect.
Decided not to put Scream on the list.
Personally, I aint a fan of night shift and The people under the stairs was a big disappointment for me.
I really wanted to like The people under the stairs, but I just couldn't. Deadly Games from 1989 is far better in my opinion.
Love In the mouth of madness. I love the dialog. "I have to, it's in the script" "This is reality", "This is NOT REALITY! NOT REALITY!"
Not a fan of Blair witch project. I was 11 in 1999 when Blair witch came out and I remember people speculating "Is it real?" and i remember seeing all the fake advertisement of "it's real".
And I remember at the time thinking "Obviously it's fact...it has to be fake. This is clearly an advertisement campaign.' I mean seriously....as a 11 year I was going "is this how the world REALLY WORKS?!" No, if this was real then it wouldn't be advertised as a horror movie...and where are all the family members, police, and detectives? Just everything about it said it was fake and a publicity stunt. I still watched it and did I like it? Ya, I was scared when I first saw it..but I only watched it maybe once or twice and that's it. In fact I kind of saw it in the same vein as Scream "oh that's mainstream hollywood horror." "Blair witch and Scream ruined the horror genre." and while I still agree Scream did harm to the genre I like Scream. I'm a fan of Scream....Blair witch project. I think it not only did WORSE damage to the horror genre; creating this lazy 'found footage' genre that eventually spawned all these reality shows that became big in the 2000's [another reason why the 2000's sucked - the dawn of the reality show.] but is it even a good movie? As another horror fan said 'it's just two guys running around in the woods with a shaky cam corder they bought from Circus city'."
Still, I understand some people like found footage and Blair witch project. I personally like very very few found footage movies.
Hell, I'm a fan of the slasher Iced from 1988. I'm probably the only fan of that movie, lol.
Misery. Misery is great. Love that movie. Always have. I watch it every now and then during the winter. Watched a few times for my Halloween marathon too. Not a film I've watched too often but often enough. It's great.
Never liked Candy man. I know..."controversial"??? "How can you not like Candyman" I don't really know. Just not a slasher/horror film I've been able to get into.

_The Silence of the Lambs_ is a sequel anyway, not an 'original'.

Yea it is but by the movie releases it’s the first.

@@PlanetCHH No; _Manhunter_ came out in 1986, and _Silence_ in 1991.

@@bryangarcia5599 I didn’t count Manhunter since the rest of the world likes to forget it exists for some weird reason. Believe me, it’s my favorite of the lector movies too. Regardless I kept it out of the list.

@@PlanetCHH Well, that's understandable enough, I suppose. And, to be fair, _Silence_ isn't _really_ a direct sequel in terms of plot, story, or (for the most part) characters, but only insofar as it happens to be the second Hannibal story, adapted from Thomas Harris's second novel featuring the character. Certainly, I don't get the impression that the filmmakers behind _Silence_ were ever under the illusion that what they were making was in any real sense a sequel. What I'm trying to say is that my dogged insistence that _Silence_ is, in fact, a sequel stems from little more than my OCD-fuelled need to be stubbornly pedantic.

Dino de Laurentiis produced both Manhunter and Silence. He rejected the view that SotL was a Manhunter sequel and is on record stating they do not share a continuity.

I love ya man, but this is not a good list lol. Candyman and ITMOM are both extremely overrated. Also leaving Scream off the list is crazy because it is THE horror movie of the 90’s and easily the best.
