Terrific and informative video! One thing though: I’d keep the guy lines in line with one another, rather than “splaying” them out as this person did at each pull-direction, because then you keep the force vectors in line with the poles which will help with wind load…by splaying them out, this weakens them in heavy winds by inducing lateral (perpendicular) movement in relation to the pole direction; you want the forces directly moving into each of the poles. Cheers!
Had a Soulo long time ago. Having returned to camping in Scotland, got the Soulo BL rather than the Soulo RL as got it for strength , not weight. 1 lb weight difference is nothing when inside a pack weighing 20lb + . Got a 2nd side pole to toughen up the side to make it totally bombproof. You attached the guylines after erecting the tent. Would recommend getting into the habit of setting them up as you erect so that it becomes second nature. The loop at end of guyline can be made smaller to give longer guyline I wouldnt say that the orientation doesnt matter as in extreme winds, the side will be the weak spot without double pole'ing it, has over twice the surface area and only 1 pole to take the load rather than 2 for a narrow ends. This has been know to get bent. Also, the sidepole guyline peg coming out tends to be the reason the Soulo fails in storms due to the load on it.
Thank you for your comment! There's a reason why Hilleberg tents, including the Soulo, are trusted by explorers, military personnel, and TV production teams around the world. These tents are designed to perform in some of the harshest conditions known to man. Every aspect, from the materials used to the meticulous construction, is geared toward ensuring durability, reliability, and protection in extreme environments. While they might come with a higher price tag, the peace of mind and performance they deliver in critical situations are well worth it.
They're amazing! Stu is wearing the Fjallraven Mens Keb Trousers - Chestnut-Timber Brown I have linked them below ... www.tauntonleisure.com/clothing-accessories/trousers/fjallraven-mens-keb-trousers--regular-leg--chestnut-timber-brown__18905
Hi there! That's completely understandable and weight is definitely a crucial factor for many outdoor enthusiasts. Hilleberg is known for prioritizing durability in their tent designs, often at the expense of weight savings. While they do offer the Anaris as a sub-1kg option, it's important to note that it employs a walking pole construction, which might not be everyone's preference. If ultralight weight is a top priority, exploring other brands or models that focus more on weight savings might be a suitable option. MSR, Sea to Summit and Big Agnus make some amazing options, we are so lucky to have such a wide variety of tents and brands to explore now a days all bringing something different to the table! Happy exploring!

It's a great tent I just don't fancy remorgaging my house to get one.
Pronounced "Solo" direct from Hilleberg. 😉
Dont worry Stu has been thoroughly reprimanded!
Do they supply double poles with the tent?
Hi, thank you for your comment. No you would have to purchase them separately.
Takes a while to order them as tend to be out of stock, the 10mm side pole cost £60
Solid tent, but way to heavy for my taste. I’m really baffled that Hilleberg doesn’t offer a < 1 kg tent

@@tauntonleisure the Anaris weighs more than 1 kg, doesn’t it?
@@neverninetofive My apologies you are right!
@@tauntonleisure Hilleberg has probably a great R&D department, I would just love to see their take on a proper UL tent for thruhiking :)
Absolutely! Who knows what the next few years may hold for them we may see something in the lightweight category since its growing as a market!
Remember it's Kilograms not kilos, kilo simply means one thousand.
