Awesome guys so good to hear this It reaffirms what I have believed. I have been playing drums and saxophone for many years and I'm presently a drummer for a international church group. I'm often asked to crank it up a little more BUT I believe I want to compliment the team not dominate it. Yeah sure I can do some pretty fancy licks but as stated by Don Its not about me it's about giving the glory to God. (There's no I in the word team) Thanks Don.

I would say that if the team wants you to crank it up, then cranking it up would probably compliment the team. Sometimes laying back too much is not the right fit

Great video!! What tends to happen to me is the worship leader will give one direction, the elder will give a different one and the Pastor will give a 3rd and COMPLETELY different path for where he thinks worship is going. Do you have any advice for that scenario??

  • @bassmentality

Thank you so much. I am 72 and 59 years a bass player. I have so been disrespected and even abused, Been called a Salty old no body, and much worse from young people in church and churches when I remind them, and the congregation (which is now called "an audience")this "Is not a concert, and we are not rock stars!".
I have famous children worship leaders and my heart breaks to see worship and prayer times become a perversion of what we know it is! In His Grace and Grip....

I’m sorry but the point of Worship is to give your best offering. Who are drab people to say that God doesn’t desire our best? If you are boring that’s fine, don’t become a musician, go become a tax collector, or wait.... don’t do that either...

    • @Wagari1000
      @Wagari1000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You are right in that we should give our best to God, but sometimes less is more! would you play a 'Flight of the Bumblebee' type arrangement when everyone is caught up in an atmosphere of reverent worship?? Maybe your'e talking about upbeat worship and praise, in which case you can let loose. Either ways, that was not a polite way of stating your opinion.

I don't have a comment, instead I have a question about keyboard players. I happen to be a bassist that finds himself frustrated at times because as I'm playing my Bass I keep hearing that keyboard player playing deep Bass notes along with me. I feel that, that should not be because it causes clashing and that clashing becomes muddy. I remember playing at one church where the sound person kept telling me that I was too loud when all along it was the keyboard player. I stopped playing during the song to prove my point. In your experience, how would you handle this type of situation. Thank you!

John Rivera yes sir, I have watched paul baloche's workshop, on that video paul baloche said that when the basist begin to play a kind of very low the keyboardist must be aware of it he should not be on the same place where you are playing he should move to the mid range, if the the guitar is on the hi range.. he said its like placing yoursekf in the low, mid or high.. I learned a lot from that video..

John Rivera - I agree with Reden, however, it might help you as well to just roll of the volume on your guitar to help with the "in your face" nature of the low frequency too if they don't listen and get out of your territory!

John Rivera my friend. You keyboard player needs to stop playing the bassline or play it as high as possible to stay out of your way. Many keyboard players may not understand the difference between playing alone and with a bass player

May I know the effect that Kiko used? The keyboard I use is Yamaha but it's not the advanced type, with limited effects. However, I wanna see if the Yamaha keyboard I use can make sound effects that Kiko makes.

We gospel musicians have a "tradition" to impress other musicians while ministry is going on. We impress one another (and ourselves) with our tremendous Phatness rather than supporting the ministry that is going on.

    • @OptimaMrL

There certainly is a lot of overplaying in gospel music, and suddenly it becomes more about the band rather than God. However, there is a time and place for everything - if what you're playing distracts the church from worshipping God and pay more attention to you playing, then that's a red flag.

i don't agree with don here, the piano player changed the keys that's why it sounded so disruptive, you can add sweet jazz/gospel elements without being so aggressive

It depends on the person's touch of music, have you seen black pastors praying, they want it up there, so it all depends on who you're playing for, that's what we are supposed to watch out for

@AdamFontenet-xo8gx sarcasm isn’t fallacy. Prophecy is when then the Holy Spirit directly imparts wisdom or a message to us and we share it with others. Hebrews 1:1 says “in many portions and in many ways”.

Joel Jeshurun Disruptive playing? That’s childish... That’s like saying you can’t read road signs while you’re driving because other cars zooming by is disruptive driving!!!
When you pray you should be praying from your heart anyways. He’s praying like his’ reading a teleprompter!
