No, it was called "Konstantiniyyah" before it was annexed, and Konstantiniyyah/Istanbul(mostly Istanbul) after annexation, but there are a few more names that it was called with in some books: Islambol: "Much-Islam" from Ottoman Turkish Dersaadat: "Gate of Happiness" from Persian Derâliye: "Supreme Gate" from Persian Bâb-ı Âli: "Supreme Gate" from Arabic Pâyitaht: "Foot of the Throne" or "Capital" from Persian Asitane: "State's Threshold" from Persian
In Turkish, I would say it was called more like "Konstantiniye" but since the name was coming from the Emperor Constantin and Turkish had always some conflict going on around the city. Turkish called it Istanbul after the Ancient Greek word "Stinpolis", which meant "(going) to the city". Bab-ı Ali is was like the government center after the Constitutionalism

For those wondering why the map didn't change between 1402-1413 and there's no picture of a Sultan, this was because of the Ottoman Interregnum. Bayezit the Thunderbolt had been taken prisoner by Tamerlane at the Battle of Ankara and the throne remained vacant for 11 years while his sons duked it out among them over who would be Sultan. Mehmet I won out in 1413.

Fun fact: The Ottomans wanted and considered themselves to be the successors of the Roman Empire even though they were Muslims This is the reason why most Ottoman Sultans were in some way inspired by the Roman rulers most notably Mehmet the conqueror who was a big fan of Caesar. He even named himself Caesar e Rum ( Caesar of the Romans ) after he conquered Constantinople. He even had the idea to reunite the two roman capitals and almost achieved it but unfortunately he died before doing that.
Actually this is a prophecy.Prophet muhammed said before judgement day two rome city will be conquered by muslims. His friens asked which one first he said where heraklius lives .Heraklius was the emperor of east roman empire during prophet muhammed.Main reason of conquest of spain was this.Advance throught spain enter north italy and get vatican. At the same time another umayyad army tried to get constantinopole. Both cities name were called roma at that time.
I'm from indonesia, and to be frank... The indonesian education system is horrible with so many school work projects but barely gaining knowledge... The perfect example is i had a lesson about the fall of constantinople, age of discovery/christopher columbus, we had a lesson about that in the class, i was like 'oh ok' and just hope to for the class to end, we literally had to rewrite what was already written in the books, i'm not at all sure what was that for. But i finally learned the fall of constantinople kickstarted the age of discovery, and possibly... european colonialism, which had an effect of dutch empire colonizing indonesia. The fall of constantinople caused a huge domino effect, i learned this by simply watching Mr. Terry's history reaction videos. The second example would be this, i never realized that Aceh sultanate was Ottoman's protectorate, the empire that captured constantinople... isn't it great? And next, the nine wali sanga (9 Wali Songo) was from middle east, and at that moment was under ottoman's rule. I am not too sure about this but... Is it true that Wali Sanga was sent from Ottomans? What's wrong with Indonesia education system is the failure to induce curiosity into the students. Curiosity will motivate you to learn more because you're... well... curious.

All empires have a beginning and an end. The strange thing about the Ottoman Empire is that while at the time it existed, the sciences and the intellect developed rapidly throughout Europe, in the Ottoman Empire there was no such progress.
The science and intellect that developed rapidly in europe, was thanks to the arab muslim empire which sparked the renaissance in Europe! Even so, millions were being tortured and burned in the whitch hunts. Anyone could have been a suspect. So not just progressive!
@@swedenball8589 science and intellect, still was present in the ottoman empire, and definitely much civil, moral, philosophical, poetic progress. Benefits from the former Muslim and Byzantine empires. Even many of the new grand cathedral arches and architecture in Europe, were inspired by the Muslim mosques. The decline of the ottomans was partly due to innovations in ships and cannon, firepower by Europeans, who started colonizing the globe, and eventually tore up the ottoman empire into pieces. Finally capturing jerusalem, the main goal of the christian crusader powers for centuries. Probably world war one had to do more with that, than the assassination in Sarajevo!
Throughout history, the Turks established more than 270 states and 16 empires. The Ottoman Empire is just one of these 16 empires. 1 Ottoman 2 Babur 3 Great Timur 4 Golden Horde 5 Harzemşah 6 Great Seljuk 7 Ghaznavids 8 Karahanlılar 9 Hazar 10 Avar 11 Uygur 12 Göktürk 13 Akhun 14 European Hun 15 West Hun 16 Great Hun These are not states but empires
Of course, the Ottomans were Anatolian Turks, descended from the Seljuk Turks who conquered the region. The Seljuks being Oghuz. Basically the Turks you refer to are the Turkics, a large, broad, diverse family of ethnic groups from the steppes.
Ottomans were not Turks. Greeks believed they were Turks. In Ottoman archives they never called themselves Turks. Most of their poems from classic period are writen in Persian language. After French revolution and fall of the empire Mustafa Kemal and other members of İttihat and Terakki tried to turn Ottomans into Turks.

The poems were written in Farsi but after 1372 the poems started to turn into Ottoman Turkish. The whole Europe knew they were Turks, just a settled one; not nomadic. Get your facts straight. You forgot something about Mehmed II. In 1480, he conquered Otranto, which is at the South East Italy. But Ottomans didn't hold Otranto for a long time. After the death of Mehmed II, they lost it.
I find it very interesting that Mehmed II is called Mehmed Fatih (Mehmed the Conqueror). But it was actually Selim I who conquered more territory than any other sultan, and paving the way for Suleiman the Magnificent who helped the Ottoman Empire prosper.
Mehmed II is called Mehmed fatih because he conquered Constantinople which was arguably the most powerful and the most wanted city at that time. Mehmed conquering Constantinople helped the ottomans have a strategical advantage, thus helping yavuz sultan selim to capture that much land
Fatih ended an era. Literally changed the game for everyone. His conquest had numerous implications, from geopolitical to religious for many. I still agree on the fact that Selim the Stern is criminally underrated.

No, at those years Portuguese Empire attacked Sumatra island and Aceh Sultanate requested Ottoman Empire to help and protect them (since Ottoman Emperor also had the title "Khalifa" aka Islam's leader). And so on, Ottoman Empire made a "safar"(campaign in English) called "Aceh Safar" and saved Muslims from Portuguese oppression. And North Sumatra is shown to b under Ottoman protection.
Anan xd Not the number of troops in those days decided and the spirit of struggle, training and the right strategy .... Janissaries were in their time the best infantryman in Europe, just like the best cavalery was the hussars :) The Hussars were always short and had a key impact on the majority of great victories, either with Swedes under Kircholm, Russians near Kłuszyn or Osmans under the Chocim ...
Greetings from Afghanistan 🪁 Ottomans were very cool and powerfull ,i love turkey 🇹🇷 the best islamic empire ever existed. Its also impressive how the minority turks of anatolia became the majority after 500 years. The population of Turkey in its modern boarders at 1300 a.d was: 29%greek 25%Kurdish 23%Turkish 16%Armenian 7%Georgian & Syrian
Even tho Armenians and Turks may hate each other I still find the Ottoman Empire extremely interesting and fasincating , hopefully Armenians and Turks will find peace with each other , from an Armenian
People like you is a hope for a better future between our nations. No matter what, i have a sympathy for Armenians because they were the favourite nation of Ottomans. They had a reputation with being loyal, that’s why Ottomans called them “millet-i sadıka” which means “loyal nation”. Armenians were also trusted people by Ottomans, when Ottoman Turks go to S. Arabia for the religion duty, they were giving their goldens or money to Armenian neighbours to keep them and take again later. That thing means a lot to me, i think Armenians are good people, i trust Ottomans about that.
1684-1922 capital was Constantinople, no Edirne, my mistake (Constantinople 1453-1922)
Danzig HD Mapper capital was Istanbul since 1453 tbh
Pallasity but name of city was Constantinople
From 1922 is Istanbul, 330-1922 was Constantinople.
No, it was called "Konstantiniyyah" before it was annexed, and Konstantiniyyah/Istanbul(mostly Istanbul) after annexation, but there are a few more names that it was called with in some books:
Islambol: "Much-Islam" from Ottoman Turkish
Dersaadat: "Gate of Happiness" from Persian
Derâliye: "Supreme Gate" from Persian
Bâb-ı Âli: "Supreme Gate" from Arabic
Pâyitaht: "Foot of the Throne" or "Capital" from Persian
Asitane: "State's Threshold" from Persian
In Turkish, I would say it was called more like "Konstantiniye" but since the name was coming from the Emperor Constantin and Turkish had always some conflict going on around the city. Turkish called it Istanbul after the Ancient Greek word "Stinpolis", which meant "(going) to the city".
Bab-ı Ali is was like the government center after the Constitutionalism

For those wondering why the map didn't change between 1402-1413 and there's no picture of a Sultan, this was because of the Ottoman Interregnum. And when i look at french history and ottoman one , there are some common point :
-They both ended a part of Roman empire (French ended the Western , Ottoman ended the Eastern)
-They started as a small piece of land , to an enormous empire , to a less small piece of land
-They both sees themself as Roman successors ( Charlemagne was called Roman emperor , Napoleon made French empire as glourious than Roman empire and Ottoman Empire considered itself as the Roman empire successor )
-During history , Ottoman empire and France were considered as the big threat of Europe , France was litterally against everyone , and everyone was scared of Ottoman Empire (well , at least for a big part of it's history)

Fun fact: The Ottomans wanted and considered themselves to be the successors of the Roman Empire even though they were Muslims
This is the reason why most Ottoman Sultans were in some way inspired by the Roman rulers most notably Mehmet the conqueror who was a big fan of Caesar. He even named himself Caesar e Rum ( Caesar of the Romans ) after he conquered Constantinople. He even had the idea to reunite the two roman capitals and almost achieved it but unfortunately he died before doing that.
They said that the first Rome was pagan, the second Christian, and the third was going to be Muslim (of course, the ottoman empire)
Suleiman was a big fan of Justinian

Curiosity will motivate you to learn more because you're... well... curious.
The Ottoman empire sent expeditions to Aceh, Java, and Borneo. The flag of the Mataram Sultanate is from the Ottoman flag

That is one of the main reason the Ottomans declined into non-existance
@@raminkhajavi9513 correct

1 Ottoman 2 Babur 3 Great Timur 4 Golden Horde 5 Harzemşah 6 Great Seljuk 7 Ghaznavids 8 Karahanlılar 9 Hazar 10 Avar 11 Uygur 12 Göktürk 13 Akhun 14 European Hun 15 West Hun 16 Great Hun These are not states but empires
spanning >2000 years of history as well
Of course, the Ottomans were Anatolian Turks, descended from the Seljuk Turks who conquered the region.
@@Arhatu The Ottoman empire itself was a Turkish Empire and the leader founders were Turks. The people inside the empire were a majority of Turks although there were many other ethnicities. Mustafa Kemal and the Young Turks made nationalism not turning Ottomans into Turks. The Ottoman Empire was also called the Turkish Empire. The poems were written in Farsi but after 1372 the poems started to turn into Ottoman Turkish. The whole Europe knew they were Turks, just a settled one; not nomadic. Get your facts straight. The Ottomans DID call themselves Turks as resembling "Turka". The Islamic Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) predicted that the Turks would change the course of history.
Summary: The Ottomans and Seljuks were Turkish.
@@ahmetdanismaz3289 Do you have any document that founders of the Ottoman empire calling themselves Turks until Timur defeats them? Ottomans were never Turkic empire, Seljuks didn't even speak Turkish as the state language. Modern Turkish historians tried to reshape history after the collapse of Ottoman empire but it didn't work very well. Even today ethnic Turks are a minority in Turkey but state policy called Ataturks nationalism forced other ethnic gruops to call themselves Turks.
In south-west Balkan, Ottomans (Turks) have big respect even today. They bring culture, trade and religion to this area

Arabia for the religion duty, they were giving their goldens or money to Armenian neighbours to keep them and take again later. That thing means a lot to me, i think Armenians are good people, i trust Ottomans about that.
