Thank you for making a very informative video. One question, I did everything you said, and can receive and transmit on the privacy tones. However when I put my Motorola radio on say 15, I could hear all my transmission that I have set on the Baofeng's to 15-6. I Don't receive any transmission on any of the other privacy channels on the Motorola. Just when I set the main frequency to 15-0. I have tried it on other channels as well and it works the same. Do you have any thoughts as to what I can do?
that's how they all work. Privacy tones can only restrict what is being sent, not received. So the main channel can hear all the PL channels under it but not vice versa. That's why you want to avoid using the main channels. Privacy tones are not private.
when i enter a tone number into tonesql the offset automatically populates to 5.00000 duplex changes from "off" to +. I tried using my two UV-5G radios with those settings but they did not hear each other. if I clear the offset and duplex, it just auto populates again.. any suggestions?
@@pawpatina ok it works if I use an existing channel. I used location 17 and added a tone to it. But this does not allow me to monitor channel 17 with out a tone. In location 23 I entered channel 17 frequency with out a tone but we can’t hear each other using that Chanel. Is transmission restricted to only the first 22 channel locations? I’m using a UV-5G.
@@IniguezFamily When you have everything setup, and you press the PTT button, does the walkie show a TX symbol? if not yours is a newer locked device. check my other vids for the unlock.
@@pawpatina thanks for the reply, i just tried it again and everything seems to work correctly now.. I have location 17 set to gmrs 17 freq with out a tone and location 33 set to gmrs 17 with a tone and i can talk and listen to both. i have not idea what i did wrong the first several times, it seems so easy and simple. thanks for responding and helping out, I appreciate that.
Is there any frs frequency for 420-450? Because I can’t transmit on frs frequency 462-467 MHz. But I can listen but can’t transmit. I need your help please, I have GT-5R radio.
I linked in the description to a chart with all the FRS/GMRS freqs... and no, only 462-467 is available for civilian use. you are probably trying to tx on a police or Ems channel and will be caught pretty fast and charged.
@@pawpatina Yes & when I try to transmit on frs frequency it make a beep noise. And I use frs frequency on my UV-82 on 462. 5626 but on a on GT-5R the frequency for 462.5626 is 428.273 on GT-5R
@KngChrisTv ... just bought a UV5R last week - also can't TX on any 462-467... It was said by another channel that the newer BFs (in an effort to help people not 'make the mistake' of TX on FRS) now block out TX on that range. My radio can TX on other HAM freqs... but it doesn't even even try on the FRS/GMRS freqs. Receive? Sure, no problem... I've fiddled with all the other tone settings and when setup properly the BF receives just fine... (from my kid's Cobra FRS toy-talkies) - but the BF won't TX at all on FRS freqs. I did find one person on another video who found that some radios have the UHF upper limits set too low (CHIRP, Settings tab, Other settings: UHF Upper Limit ) and after setting that higher worked for them... But for me with my new unit... ugh. No joy. Been looking all day... can't figure it out. Good luck!
lets say you are on channel 14 with no privacy tone. you will hear not only everyone on channel 14 in range but also everyone on channel 14 and any privacy tone. this way you only hear people on that privacy tone, aka your group.
In airsoft for example... Command will be listening on channel 14. platoon 1 squad 1 will have PL tone of 1 so they only hear each other. Platoon 1 squad 2 will have 2 and so on.
Thanks for the explanation. One follow up question. Let’s say someone on Platoon 1 is transmitting. Someone on platoon 2 doesn’t hear anything, and assumes the channel is clear. But it isn’t. Platoon 2 person transmits. Doesn’t that destroy both transmissions?
haha thanks. MOST people just use the main channels and have no clue how the side channels even work... so I get it. I just prefer my own channel when they get crowded.
I've watched several videos about Privacy Codes and you explained it better than anyone else. Now I finally understand! Thank you!
HEY THANKS!!
100% i've looked for months for a video like this. There no videos out there that show you how to add sub channels/tones/ctcss.
What a fantastic content creator! Thank you so much for helping out the community! YOU ROCK MAN!!! A+++++
I had to watch 30 videos before finding this! Thanks!
Hey no problem and me too thats why I made a video!!! hahaha glad you found it!

I figured staying on the low watt frs freq would be safer
it doesnt matter, no one cares. especially if you are out in the woods... higher watts wont do anything except give you more range.
