    I’m about to do a feature film next month as a 2nd 2nd AD for the first time. I’ve been watching your videos on the Exhibit G and PR report like there’s no tomorrow. I really appreciate your content. Beyond film school is low key becoming a film bible 🙏🏾

      Aww thanks so much! So happy I'm able to help in some way! Being a 2nd 2nd AD is so fun! Have a good time on set, and let me know how it goes!

    Hello!
    You come across as a lovely 2nd to work with. I work my trade in the UK.
    Our union was destroyed by Margaret Thatcher back in the 80’s.
    At one point here when the scheduled day was over, the sparks threw the switch and that was it. It was very strong. Now there aren’t many people in the union. We have 1st, 2nd and 3rd AD’s. Then runners. My first introduction to PA’s was on Harry Potter. So many PA’s. Young people and most had a script they were trying to put into David Heyman’s hand. My Dear brother is a career 2nd. He’s taken courses on becoming a UPM, yet he’s never taken the leap. I think he’s become to comfortable in the Warm trailer, on a cold winters morning. Anyway my point is, a very good 2nd may not get the respect from the shooting crew but you can bet the UPM and the Producers will always have a list a top 2nd’s in their black book. I’ve watched my Brother calm a room of Producers and the UMP that are crapping themselves about a tricky schedule, thinking how can we get actor x, to stay for a few hours/days more? My brother is so funny and can make everyone crumble with his dry humour, they all love him. That’s why he’s always working. You seem cool and I’d be more than happy to work with you. For any newbie’s out there. The main rule if you’re just starting. Never ever, bloody ever, be late to work. You won’t often, get a second chance. Always get to work at least 15 minutes before your call and make friends with the sparks. Make them a round of Tea/Coffee. Get on their wrong side and your shoot can be hell. Make friends and they will have that heater set up next to hair&make up in a jiffy. Thanks fir your videos. Young bloods, prepare to work harder than you have ever worked before in your lives. Sleep in a 3way for the night if you have to.
    I love the smell of a film set in the morning. Peace & love to you all. Stay safe. 👍

      Amazing comment! You're so right. Making friends with electric is a good tip!

    to remove that white noise in your background, record 10 ish seconds of silence, then in audacity highlight those 10 seconds of silence, and click noise reduction. :)

    Super helpful...I have my first job as a second ad coming up next week and I don't have the experience needed. So this was very helpful. And your other ad vids also. Well done. I'll hit you with a coffee sometime haha. Thanks.

    Do you guys have a 4th AD? Someone who is a the trailers getting the cast processed before travelling them to set? And does the 2nd 2nd do the DPR?

    • @BeyondFilmSchool
      @BeyondFilmSchool  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well there's additional 2nd AD that might, but the first team runner PA would be at the trailers/base camp/ dressing rooms for the most part making sure that all is happening.
      In NYC the PR is done by the paperwork PA. Not an AD

    Hello, I wanted to know if you have any videos for pre production 2nd 2nd Assistant Director responsibilities….

    • @BeyondFilmSchool
      @BeyondFilmSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have videos on pre-production exclusively. A 2nd 2nd doesn't have too many responsibilities in prep. They will help interview and hire the Staff of PAs tho (or whoever is on their team,) they'll go on tech scouts, and help the Key 2nd with anything they need help with.

    Are you ever in the Post-Production Room?

      Nope, not as an AD or a set PA.

      Beyond Film School Do you know any You Tubers who do something similar to what you do for the world of post? I’m trying to become a PA for post production but it seems all if the advice on being a PA is for production! Loved the video btw ;) Thank you!

      If you're trying to get into that works look into post houses to intern there. That's how a lot of ppl start.
      Also a lot of ppl enter as an assistant editor where it's labling and organizing the footage and syncing the audio files.
      I'll see what I can find for post channel wise.

    Literally no reason to use the title of "second second" instead the "third AD". Why is the U.S. so weird with naming things? And I'm an American!

    • @BeyondFilmSchool
      @BeyondFilmSchool  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are very weird lol I don't get it either. 😆

      The reason why there is a 2nd 2nd AD instead of a 3rd AD likely has to do with the job categories of the Director's Guild of America (DGA). In the DGA, you work in a designated category. There is Director, UPM, 1st AD, 2nd AD and a few others. If you are in the DGA in the 2nd AD category, you can work on guild (union) jobs as a Key 2nd AD, 2nd 2nd AD or additional 2nd AD. But, you cannot just work in a different category (like say, a 1st AD) without meeting certain requirements. So using the term "2nd" in the job titles is a way to designate that.

  • @chuckmiller7549

    The 2nd 2nd AD title is in place because its really a "key PA" and most PA's who have been working as a PA long enough they get butt hurt and want a title without PA in the name.... They are the dedicated AD PA.

    For a second there, I thought I was seeing double...
