Never mind the Vantage................3 V8 Zagato's in a line !!!!, I worked at Aston Martin for 10 years (and was still seen as a new boy) Victor Gauntlett was a true Gentleman
Totally amazing car even more amazing was victor who I met with at Newport pagnall when I was seven years old my friends mother was a secretary for him . She asked if I could be aloud to come over and have a look at the cars. He was very nice and he even took me out for a ride in one of his cars I never forget about how kind he was and I have loved Aston Martin ever since blessed I was
@@gbjames64 Still can’t afford one ☝️ yet might just be able to get a modern vantage as they hold value water in a cup with a whole in the bottom. Fingers crossed 🤞
Congratulations to Nicholas Mee and Richard for one of the best clips yet! I’m old enough to remember the days when Victor Gauntlett of Pace Petroleum had just taken over AML and this car was featured in many of the classic car mags of the day. Like many kids my age I lusted after the ‘Oscar India’ Vantage and this one in particular. Sorry that VG is no longer with us but it’s nice to know his car is still around and has been beautifully restored to its former glory. Always loved that colour - is that Tourmaline blue?
I would have to agree that this was Britain's first Super Car, but probably the last. It has the looks, the stance, the sound, the handling, stopping, power, elegance, luxury. Shame I live in Australia and really cant afford it anyway. But if I win Lotto, look out, I am on my way to get one and bring it back to Australia. Beautiful car.
The Oscar India Vantage in Pentland or Galloway green has to be the coolest British machine of all time. There is literally nowhere you could go and not be welcome.
Terrific video and brilliant car. It’s too bad that everyone from Aston Martin to Jaguar to Rolls-Royce thought that the only upholstery colour was Magnilia or Parchment with contrast piping. The car in this video would have look superb with Connolly VM3281 Surf Blue hide.
christdragon I believe the reasons were twofold; firstly the blanked off grille made the car look more aggressive and ‘muscular’ and defined the high performance Vantage model as distinctly different from the standard V8 version. The blanked off grille also worked with the aerodynamics of the front spoiler in helping direct airflow to the radiator for engine cooling.
Because they had problems with aerodynamic lift in speeds above 200 km/h. With holes going into the engine compartment (the grille) you get an over pressure inside leading to the front axle wanting to lift straight off the ground like the car was an airplane. The solved this issue by closing the grille and redirecting the airflow. Enough air for cooling is drawn to the radiator from holes behind the license plate.
london man Interesting question but in fairness we know neither Richard’s personal situation or his feelings on this issue. And to be blunt, it really isn’t our business. This is a high value motor car of significant historical importance. I’m sure both Nicholas Mee and Richard will ensure that it goes to an appropriate custodian .
So, we chose a Dexy’s Midnight Runners song at the middle of the video. The name of the track was ‘Geno’. Then, the highly evocative ‘Nimrod’ by Elgar to close the video.
Was it really the fastest production car of the time? I believe the Ferrari Daytona, Porsche 930 Turbo, and Lamborghini Miura were all faster, both in terms of top speed and 0-60.

Best vid you’ve ever done Nick!
Glad you enjoyed it MPD! See you soon.
Victor Gauntlett in 1982? Offered that same car to me on sixpence a week terms. Tongue very firmly in cheek.
Thumbs down for music when there was an engine to be heard.
Such a perfect car. Love it
Wonderful car, stunning color!
By the way the band name playing is correct but the right name of the song is GENO.
What a phenomenal automobile! I envy the owner.
I love my DB9,but I would swap plus cash for a 70's Vantage.Perfect.
You know where to come when you are ready!
Sublime. Thank you 🙏
Just hope Sunnyside, gets restored. Love to see my old office again
great video. probably £239,999 this time around instead of the original £39,999...
Did it not come with seat belts?
One of my ultimate dreams is to purchase one of these (a clone of the Timothy Dalton V8, without the gadgets obviously 😍)!!!
Anyone got the paint code?
Who knows the title of the classical piece of music at the start?? Thanks
Nimrod, Edward Elgar. Makes the hairs on the back of the neck stick up eh?
This car was restored by Rikki Cann, I know because I helped restore it.
Please, will someone tell me what song that is?
The english gentlemans mustang !
Why did Aston Martin cover the grill up? Great car. Thanks.

Cool
I remember seeing, back in the day, top speed was 170MPH....lol
Beautiful but I keep thinking of Brummies taking a lot of tea breaks during production.
Newport Pagnall is NOT in Birmingham. You're confusing Aston Martin with Jensen !!
