Ravel's friend and contemporary Charles Kœchlin said that waltzes were sarcastically laughed at when first performed. Who were those people to be laughing at THIS...
They did not know it was a new piece by Ravel, this and other pieces were first performed anonimously!! This is my favorite piano piece by Ravel, ex-aqueo with Le Tombeau du Couperin. I love Miroirs too, but with too many pianists it becomes boring. Alas, Argerich never recorded it and I don't know if she ever performed it in public.
1st track: Too much pedal. Pace is too consistent. Not "French" enough as Ravel's direction on the score states. Kinda boring. Arcadi Volodos version is spot on.
That last page always makes me forget to breathe somehow, magnificent playing.

Chi se ne frega?
9:44 is just pure transcendence
Suddely I've become an Argerich fan again. She uses her phenomenal technique to play casual without missing the point. Nice listening.
Ok
She is arch musical, which is certainly not the case of her pal Nelson Freire, who has awful taste.
I couldn't even begin to explain how difficult it is to play Ravel as is, let alone play this as well as Argerich does here

Waltz No. 4 @5:08 and parts of No. 7 sound music straight out of his orchestral work La Valse!
Grazie mille per la condivisione, fenomenale 💕
7:00 it's lovely
I am inclined to agree with you Lemi
11:52 best part, very very deep
Almost identical harmony appears in Jeux d'eau (C/F#)
@@anonunknown7999 Love that piece, which timestamp exactly?

6:30 what is that high note? I don’t see it in the sheet.
maybe overtones?
2:55 did she mess up?
No
No? That's exactly how it's written, and it sounds godly.
