1st track: Too much pedal. Pace is too consistent. Not "French" enough as Ravel's direction on the score states. Kinda boring. Arcadi Volodos version is spot on.

Er war nicht ein David Guion geboren, in Texas... einerdings, keine Edele Seelen konnten unter den Fahne hier geboren sein; noch Edele Und Guten, Edele Und Grosse, Hochnaesig, etc... Der Fahne hier ist verflucht, das es ist nicht moeglich. Der Klavierer hier, vielleicht Edel Und Gut seelisch auch, war in Canada geboren...

Noch ein Musiker wer ist ein Heiliger geworden- der Stueck ist fantastisch angenehm! Ein Heiliger von Zeus, zuwiss- also Rasa ist von Yule, einartiger Tag... Lands Ober Zeichung von Australien ist wirklich Nuin, Italia; wie Land hier wahrscheinlich sie hatten etwas rassentliche Verwirrung typpisch... fuer Land hier aber- Ober Zeichung Gort, Alba- sie sagen vielleicht Verlorenheit, mehr wahrisch... Der Gott Zeus, in Cymric Damyethav, der Sprache vielleicht ein bisschen besser fuer uns...

as far as i am concerned this is heaven. it is perfect. divinely inspired music played by a goddess. it rocks TOTALLY. xox

1. n'est pas joué à 73 à la noire et 4. à 73 à la croche comme demandé. 1.est trop lent, 4. est trop rapide. Tout l'équilibre de l'oeuvre en est détruit.

What I find funny is that the original organ score is actually ridiculously simple, because by using dense registrations, you can literally have 20 notes playing when pressing only 5 keys. So the piano transcription needs a huge amount of fill added; octaves, dominants, etc. But it still sounds feeble compared to playing it on a French romantic organ.

As performed by Schnabel, the second movement is the most achingly beautiful music I have ever heard.

BRAVO! Thank you for sharing this PRICELESS performance, of a divine masterpiece on the exotic period instrument!!! While I was already quite familiar with the pedal harpsichord, I’ve never heard (of, even) the pedal piano before, let alone an original period instrument! Now I’m wondering whether Liszt originally composed this magnum opus for the pedal piano? I’ve heard the organ version as well as the piano version, and I thought the latter was the transcription of the former (as he did with Bach’s organ preludes and fugues). Anyway, thanks again. Just AWESOME!!! Just checked out your other videos: DEFINITELY SUBSCRIBED!!!

I love Kempff, but I prefer Schnabel's Schubert for it's superior articulation of phrasing and cleaner lines.

Such beautiful music...it is kind of strange though why he put those fermatas over the rests at the very end of the first two movements...the player here really leans in to this for sure, but otherwise this was a very enjoyable performance of an overlooked gem

This piece is a perfect fit for Brendel. I know many people adore his Schubert but I feel that here his insight is even more penetrating

It's really a soothing piano piece. I can imagine that morning sun has shone on a quiet village.
