I had to read Great Expectations in 9th grade english and DESPISED it. Hearing you discuss it now makes me want to reread it (I am now a senior in college), so hopefully I will like it more now with a better understanding of literature!

I've read a lot this March, some were re-reads like Ray Bradbury's Martian Chronicles and The Illustrated Man and then I finally delved into Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, I read 4 out of 5 novels in the series and I am absolutely loving them! If you've ever seen the movie and liked it...well.... The books are 100000000 times better!

A book that gave me very strong The Hating Game vibes is You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle. It's about an engaged couple that both want out but neither wants to end up paying for all they've already invested in their wedding. It's the only book I've ever read that I felt can compare to The Hating Game.
Also, if you ever wanted to give Rachel Lynn Solomon another whirl, she has a YA romance called Today Tonight Tomorrow and it has Booksmart vibes but throw in a city-wide scavenger hunt/assassins game hybrid and an enemies to lovers romance and you have Today Tonight Tomorrow!

I read These Violent Delights this month and I adored it! It's fantastic!
I just read "rough house" by Tina Ontiveros. My library will give you a pack of random reads by genre, if you ask, and this was in my most recent bunch. I wasn't sure I wanted to read it, but the writing is poetic, insightful, and painful. I essentially read it in a day, it was beautiful. Also, I think there had been a different ending to "Great Expectations."
It seems to me the books you least enjoyed are the books i would really like to read, the social life of books and Great expectations. Court rooms you say? yippy yay!

I'm still fighting my way through a reading slump that started in February, but I did finish a few books. I read my first Agatha Christie book, The Murder at the Vicarage (with Miss Marple), and I really liked it! Mystery isn't my usual genre, but I've been meaning to read more classics and this was an easy read. I also just finished Eve Brown and enjoyed more than I was expecting (Dani Brown was my favorite of the three, but it's such a good romcom series).
If you like books that take place in restaurants, you should read "America is not the heart" by Elaine Castillo ! It didn't love it but somehow i couldn't put it down and it does take place in a philipino restaurant in some parts :)
I'm glad you loved Giovanni's Room! I'm reading a book called Barely Functional Adult: It'll All Make Sense Eventually by Meichi Ng and it's so funny, I think you would like it! It's like a blend of writing and comics. It's making me LOL and I'm flying through it! Super relatable!
