Preach. I think it’s very sweet that Leonie avoided kinkshaming by acknowledging that every folk has their own stroke and that’s fine, but when does it stop? So much romanticisation of these toxic, manipulative people is rampant throughout literature - everywhere I see mafia stories and toxic werewolf alphas and billionaire playboys, it just gives me the ick. When fiction affects reality, the problem begins. I believe unironically that every book with this romanticisation featured should have a disclaimer at the beginning making it clear for readers that this is FICTIONAL and that people acting like this in real life is not okay.

I’m all in for hating this book but he did not yell at corvina for that part lmfao that was just some random a$$ girl but either way the “I could feel the sexual tension between you two!!!” Part was RIDICULOUS. That’s like if someone’s main character syndrome actually came true which is what this entire book is with corvina.
Since he has a reputation for sleeping with his students, it would have been funnier if she kept trying to get with him to make the plot happen but he was completely disinterested and going after someone else.
It's because they're supposedly more charming and persuasive. You know, because they studied language? Also, English teachers tend to be younger (Or at least that's what I noticed where I live). You don't wanna hook up with old Mr. Higgins the math teacher
Now I wanna see a (legal) student-teacher relationship fic/book where the teacher/professor teaches mathematics or physical science and the entire book is just a long painful read of the teacher being blind to literally every advance said student makes and every chapter ends off a cliffhanger only for the next one to be the most anticlimactic scenario they could have possibly thought of. And it’s in the comedy genre.
I would say it's most commonly either the English/Literature professor or art/music/drama teacher as they're usually portrayed as young and so more cool and relatable to the kids (and if I may stereotype for a second, those are likely the subjects that romance authors are more interested in and find romantic). The only romance involving an Ethics professor as a love interest that I've seen is Chidi and Eleanor in The Good Place, and now I hate that they appear in a comparison with this terrible fanfic romance. It'd be ironic and even more hypocritical for an Ethics professor to have a relationship with a student, often in that fictional situation though it's the character's psychiatrist/therapist.
Reading these replies is interesting. I always just assumed it was because we’re authors/writers, meaning English is bound to be one of the subjects we’re good at/enjoy. I didn’t realise it was due to a whole stereotype, but that makes a lot more sense. Mind you out of the bunch of books I’ve read on Wattpad of this teacher x student genre, I remember one being a Calculus teacher and one being a History teacher iirc? So much romanticisation of these toxic, manipulative people is rampant throughout literature - everywhere I see mafia stories and toxic werewolf alphas and billionaire playboys, it just gives me the ick. It's always the fucking English teacher when it's not the Ethics professor 💀🤣
The Science teacher doesn't have the necessary amount of swag. You can thank/blame the professor from Gilligan's Island.
Then English, English, I forget but probably English, English, you get the picture. (Don’t ask why I read so many txs books 😇)

There’s one line in this book, where the narrator is talking about the “mean girl” character. She says something along the lines of “this girl was SA’d so now she’s super mean to everyone for no reason.” As an SA survivor, I found this super harmful and frankly, a horrible thing to say.
Oh god I hate those kinds of reasons. There's "yeah she went through a traumatic experience so she's still having trouble processing and she lashes out after her *understandably* horrifying experience"

Omg. The character being accidentally named after a fish when the author intended some pretty feminized version of raven has such 'My Immortal except not a joke the author actually thought it was deep' energy.

Since the corvidae family of birds contains not only crows and ravens, the teacher would have been technically equally correct to call her a blue jay. Although I suppose that isn't as Dark Academia
Wait, I’d like to make an argument that this would have been more dark academia, because it would need some knowledge on birds and biological naming conventions. It would make you as the reader think, and not be as cliche as the raven thing, which sounds like trying too hard/fanfiction-like.
It’s not as „steamy romance novel set in „dark academia aesthetic“ setting must read oh so *hoooot*“, tho, for sure.
@@annikania2682 Yeah, cause, forgive my ignorance, isn't "Dark Academia" about, yk, LEARNING?

yeah theres no way thats not abusive in some way. like, even if she enjoys it, a partner should NEVER say that they're a bad choice for a first time and do zero preparation. i dont like the teacher in this book and i dont like how he treats corvina sexually, but i hope he at least did aftercare. also she would definitely be bleeding at least a little after he just violently ripped through her hymen (unless she broke it earlier on in her life)

@@just-trying-my-best-everyday someone call those artists who draw the bimbofication memes kissing & commission them to draw ebony and corvina as girlfriends
In italian we put -ina or -ino after a name to indicate that it is something little, or cute, for example "mano" wich means "hand" would be "manina" to indicate that it is a small hand. So to me "Corvina" is "a small crow" or "a small raven", and the "a" at the end is because it's a female, while Corvin-o would be a male. Maybe she took inspiration from that? Italian developed from latin so it could be possible
late but I think it came from the Teen Titans Go character Raven, which is named Corvina in the Italian version. I may be wrong though!

I don’t like when people use “fanfic-like” writing as a criticism, because a lot of fanfic writing is pretty good. I feel like we should just say cringy writing..
as a fanfic reader and writer, i feel to an extent its fair, because, especially on places like wattpad, it seems as though the more popular it is the worse it is. so by default it gets a bad rep. i do agree though, i wish people werent so hard on it because good fanfic writers exist. people have made such genuinely beautiful and well-made fan works, and they shouldnt be taken less seriously simply because they are fanworks.
