Pannu’s argument that until 1849 there was an independent Sikh kingdom when it was annexed by the British is rather self-serving. There were independent kingdoms of Travencore and Cochin, Mysore, Jaipur, and many other kingdoms. To justify restoration of something back to what it was more than 175 years doesn’t make sense. May be, it would be a good idea to establish an independent Sikh State in BC, Canada.

It was not a Sikh Kingdom. Ranjit Singh had Hindu and Muslim wives and the rule only lasted about 40 years. Gurdwaras were run by Hindus at the time and had Idols etc within them. Sikhism as we know it only started in 1945.

Do you wonder why the Khalistani movement is almost nonexistent in India but exists only in countries like Canada, UK, and Australia? It is basically an immigration/human trafficking scandal. Nobody has published any figures on how many people have been granted asylum in these countries based on Khalistan persecution. Although the report end in a light note, it is still ironic how those central asian koreans needed to go to South Korea to realise they're as much culturally Kazahks as they're ethnically Koreans.
It is exaclty like those overseas grandchildren of Japanese immigrants that settle in the Americas long ago, most of them grew up with a deep sense of being japanese first and Brazilians, Americans or Peruvians second. And then when they finnaly ressetle in Japan for they astonishment they discovery their are not as Japanese as they once thought and the native Japanese for their part look at them as just another group of foreigners.
As for India and the Sikhs, it is obvious the West wish to galvanize the separatism sentiments of expatriate Sikhs as a weapon to foster discontent inside India and undermine her role as a Global leader.
But India also needs to resist the push to fell in the trap of reinforce her national identity on a majority religious ground over the risk of marginalize minority groups and turn narratives in real problems. One just need to look at Myammar to see how much trouble things can get once diversity is overrun by chauvinism and mismanegement.

Koreans in Central Asia blow my mind, like not that they're there but that they've done so much to maintain their cultural identity. I get that Koreans live everywhere (and that Canada and the US have a lot of them) but I guess since a lot of them travel back to Korea frequently it seems a bit different.
Koreans/Koryo Saram were forcibly relocated by Soviets, while Korean immigration to North America is often voluntary, with a different dynamic and incentive to assimilate. While in some ways the USSR was far from supporting nationalism, one could still maintain a degree of cultural heritage and identity.

It is heartwarming to feel back home to the motherland. No matter what background, religion or color, humans are fundamentally the same with universal emotions of fear and hope. Also Khalistan would have to ask persmission for almost everything from either pakistan or India for trades and even permission for airspace.. We sikhs are ruler of Punjab region Up to 1849, when British annex Punjab. When British left Sikhs were promised special autonomy powers for Punjab state, but after the independence India's politicians denied everything to Sikhs instead Sikhs were declared a criminal community. A dossier was circulated within Indian government offices that to keep eye on Sikhs.

Why not? South Asia is basically divided amongst religious lines anyways. Why is West Bengal part of India and Bangladesh a separate country? I feel like self determination should be the motivating factor for all parties. It doesn't seem like a lot of people in Punjab actually want an independent state. They should just have, at the very least a non-binding democratic referendum to see (that way it isn't enforceable if things go south.) every time that has happened in Quebec or Scotland, most people vote to stay.
