It's getting worse by the day. The worst offenders of Stolen Valor are actual Veterans. They will lie about what they did because they feel inadequate about never being involved in any actual operations. They will even lie to get legit medals. One of the Marines that worked for me didn't do a damn thing on our deployment. He asked me to put him in for a medal and I denied the request. He didn't earn one, it's that simple. He went around me and went to a SNCO and lied to him about his "accomplishments."
I know a married Air Force couple who are both getting 100% VA disability for PTSD. She only deployed once to Qatar and he never deployed. They faked the funk so much that when we invited them to our house for 4th of July celebration, they ran inside my house acting like they were having an episode from the fireworks. They're getting over $84K a year combined in VA disability benefits.

There is a mental condition that explains this behavior: grandiose delusions. It is a real condition that people that feel they need to be better or to impress people that gets worse as people actually fall into their lies. So as one tells a lie bout themselves and someone believes it, they then add onto that to make it even seem better. I know this first hand because my own father pulled this crap until he got busted (not by Don). My dad got it down to doing speaking engagements and such and even promoted himself to admiral from captain when everyone bought his story as a captain. It was sad to see and he never admitted it was a lie because he lived with it in his mind for so long it became his reality.

Hi Don, I'm an Army vet. There was a Seal group ( I thought it was a team) barracks in the same company area at Redstone arsenal as us. I was told they were there for EOD training. Every branch of the US military and some allied countries had training RSA. We would have field days once a month. On these occasions there would be some food and beer and friendly competition between the different branches. One of the games was a tug of war with the winner determined by elemination. It would always conclude with two groups, Seals on one side and Marines on the other. I was always impressed at the start of the competition there was some back and forth progress then someone with the Seals would call an order and their group would start working in unison and easily pull the Marines into the mud. BTW do you know a guy named Joe Kazmar? Take care Don I really like your stories.

I will never understand why people lie about service.. my grandfather was an S2 cook in WW2...I remember having thanksgiving at his house and we would say the Navy really trained you to be a damn good cook...and he would laugh... nothing to be ashamed of when you serve the military... not everyone as meant to be a bad ass... great videos Don

I agree but ,Even a cook is a bad ass. Everyone's primary job is a warrior there specialization or M.O.S or M.I.T or whatever the branch your in calls it is just what you specialize in and in garrison job. But everyone trains to fight js. No shame in cooking trucking water treatment specialist or anything

We all need each other. Because we all have insecurity about whether we are needed or not it makes us feel lesser about so called titles as cool and envy the “better” ones.
      No such thing.
No one is self made. Period.
Ribbing on the square is always ok as in a cook will take some grief from infantry same was as a blue collar worker may make fun of a white collar worker for “never getting hands dirty”.
Past that it’s all about insecurity and is just smoke and mirrors.
      Everything matters.
