Hi JazzMentlists!!! This is my first video I produce for jazz beginner to intermediate. In the past year, I had specifically designed courses for intermediate/advanced and pro. With this one, I chose to go back to the basics of bebop scales. I've written out the scales to use for this tune, so no matter what, you can play along with the bass & drums backing track. Let me know how you do with this. For my advanced and pro players, stay tuned. I am working on something special for you as well. Don't forget to comment, subscribe or hit the BELL to be notified of future tutorials. Thanks again for tuning in. I appreciate you. It's a HUGE effort to produce these videos, and every little interaction not only helps the TH-cam Algo to rank these videos in Search, but also helps me know if I'm going in the right or wrong direction with these. So keep letting me know your feedback. It truly helps me out. Thanks again! - Paul PS: If you enjoy this type of jazz "training" , then I invite you to join me Saturday mornings at 11:00 am EST right here on TH-cam for FREE MasterClass and hang with other jazz musicians from around the globe. I am going through some of your newer videos and I really appreciate your beginning to intermediate videos. Thanks for all the time you put in to this. There are other channels on TH-cam, but I do think that yours is at the top in terms of quality of music.
for my first bossa i was going to do girl from ipa, but i've instead switched to blue bossa, so this video popped up in my feed at the perfect time. thanks paul!
@@sudhakartamang1792 Thanks. I have a few lessons like those you suggest. If you do a search on my channel for "transcription" you'll find some on standards. I also do tutorials like this th-cam.com/video/qlL1cCp2ZXY/w-d-xo.html.
Please continue doing some tutorials for jazz standards songs thank you , I'm a beginner guitar player but I can understand you you're a very good instructor and thank you so much.
Very interesting Paul! Thanks. I see the min ii V I (Dm7b5 G7b9 C-7) as using the Eb6dim scale with Ddim notes on strong beats for Dm&G7 bars & Eb6 notes on C-7 bars. Is this a correct understanding? Thanks
Paul, in measure 6 on the G7b9, you recommend the 3 (b natural) of the G7 chord. But this is also the #5 of the bebop major scale if we started on EbMaj7. Could you also just call it the bebop major scale of the key we're in (C minor / Eb major)? Overall very helpful video. I'm comparing notes between this video and your posting on the bebop scales for Autumn Leaves!
I do not at the moment. I'm thinking about it. I made this course available for free: jazzmentl.com/the-ultimate-beginners-guide-to-jazz-piano/. That is good stuff. Are you looking for something more tailored Tyler?

Great tutorial for me. Thank you very much Paul :)
I try to respond to all the comments, but sometimes I miss some!! It's nice to find this 2 years later! 😄
OK, so I'm loving those chromatic voicings you're using in your improvisation. Thanks!
It's funny, I just saw this comment (after 1 year). Strange eh? I appreciate it Amoti!

Very good. You could also look at it like C-6, 6th diminished scale. This would allow your playing to leverage C- blues if your ear can go there.
@@Jazzmentl Got you Paul! Thanks. Hearing the A note or the Bb pretty much as in Stolen moments!
