My mind is completely blown how easy this is. If the melody is on one of the notes in the 1M6 chord you harmonize it with the other ones, if it's one of the notes in 7dim7 (or 2 or 4 or b6, same thing) then you harmonize it with the other notes of that chord. I totally see how people were able to come up with 4 part harmonies so quickly. Thanks for the video!

Fantastic! Thanks very much Paul. Great to have the system explained. The application with fly me to the moon is extremely helpful. Very much appreciated, super job.
Thanks and I'm glad you found this tutorial helpful 🙂. I really appreciate the feedback - it helps me identify what players are finding useful and what type of tutorials folks like. Welcome to JazzMentl! Please remember to have a look at the different playlists. There are over 400 tutorials here - specific to either tunes or technical performance.
Cool. I only design tutorials for intermediate to advanced players. TH-cam is saturated with beginner content, and that's not where I could best serve. So I'm really happy to hear this content is serving you well. If you like Barry Harris type of training, you may also like th-cam.com/video/_ZVvT5Klmms/w-d-xo.html
Some of you have been asking for my red scribble notes I do in real time when I train. I will try to remember to take snap shots of those and make them downloadable next to the sheet music. The link to the sheet music is always in the last few minutes of the video (to left). If you are new to this channel, welcome!!! I love to produce these videos. This one took 3 days to do. The time is really in prep work. Lifting the tune, making an arrangement, prepping an exercise, etc. Then the producing of it...it's not a significant time to record, but it is a big job to edit. Then we must upload the video, optimize it, etc. In addition, I have to upload the sheet music to the website and populate the store (free or paid, same process). So, it's a bit of work. The only thing we ask in return, is if you have a moment, please engage with this video. Write a comment, give it a thumbs up, share on social media. This helps the TH-cam algo rhythm decide which video ranks and which don't. The better they rank, the more pianists find us. The more that find us, the more subscribers. The more subscribers...the better chance this channel could start earning some decent revenue. Ask me any question, I'm an open book. - Thanks for tuning in! - Paul

You can also use minor sixth chords for the scale, so a C min/dim scale is exactly the same which you can harmonize with alternating c min 6 and dim chords. One of the inversions of c min 6 is a half diminished. In the video, around 13:00 had a b half diminished chord. Use the d mn 6/dim scale (same as D bebop but with an F natural).
Any progression will work, it's more about the melody line. When the melody goes up or down a scale it's fairly easy to work in the 6th diminished scale. Thanks
Thanks for the Video just wanted to ask if you can use the 6th diminished scale in G for ex. throughout the a-D-G (2-5-1) progression. Or is it better to use the a minor, D major and G major scale?
You could, but it would be bland. I usually warn musicians against the overuse of diminished scales. It takes away from the musicality of soloing. Typically I would use a diminished scale on dominant 7th chords and sometimes on -7b5 chords. The goal is with each chord to choose a scale or a chord pattern that makes the most sense musically. For example, in a standard II-V-I progression you might use a Dorian bebop scale on II, a diminished scale on V7, and a major bebop scale on Imaj7.

Thanks Much. VERY CLEAR!!
My pleasure 🙂
Thanks very much for a truly intermediate level (not enough of those out there) lesson on the Barry Harris method. Practical, doable, effective.

The 6th diminished works great over a Bm7b5. You can use the Dm6/dim for it
Great video Paul! Super clear. Thanks so much for sharing the knowledge! Keep em coming! 🙌
Thx Willy for tuning in.
Thank you Paul. A lot of work... :)
