    Late to the party here, but just picked up a D3000 at a charity store going 'cheep cheep'! 🐥🐥 So bought it as an auxiliary camera with no manual, and knowing little about it as an individual product, only as a member of the Nikon family generally. So thanks for running through this so thoroughly and so long after it was first produced. It's proving to be a useful extra camera but would have been frustrating without your video since it lacks some of the features of my D5000 camera. There's no doubt many more older models of camera would end up on the scrap heap without people like yourself who take the trouble to review them for people who of necessity use older equipment. Thank you! 👍

    Bought a Pentax 33 years ago and of course are too expensive to use nowadays with the cost of film and developing. So decided to buy a Nikon D3000 yesterday to learn how to use a DSLR. Will be watching all 3 of your videos on this camera.

    There are those out there that would attempt to have one believe that these DX cameras are not worth investing in anymore. My D5600 still serves me well.

      DX cameras have a definite place. I like their reduced size and weight, both of which are great for hiking.

    Good afternoon question can I upgrade lens to 24-105 or what do you recommend for this camera I just like the upgrade of the lens

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as it's a Nikon F mount lens, then yes, it should work just fine. If you have the 18-55 right now, the Nikon 24-105 ought to be a significant upgrade in terms of overall performance.

    David, I have the Nikon D3000, one problem, perhaps you can help: When I have the setting on A and push the botton to take a picture, nothing happens, it auto focuses but does not take a picture, when I switch to M it does not auto focus but takes pictures? Can you help? Thanks

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you trying this indoors or outside? If indoors, there may not be enough light for your camera to focus or, IIRC, there may be a setting to prevent the camera from taking photos when the exposure is too long or light levels are too low. If I recall that accurately, video 3 will probably cover that setting. In M, the camera will do what you say regardless of whether a properly exposed photo can be achieved. In A, P, S, etc., the camera will only take a photo if it can achieve a proper exposure.

      😀@@DavidHancock Thank you very much for getting back to me. I will try the other settings. Otherwise I will do it manually.

    Hello david I have two options to buy:
    Canon 40d (for 150$)
    Or
    Nikon d3000 (for 100$)
    Both in great condition with 18-55mm lens
    Which one is better for me? This will be my first camera

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're pretty similar cameras. The D3000 uses a CCD sensor vs. the D40's CMOS. In older cameras, CCDs tend to perform better. The D3000 is also smaller and lighter. The D40 has a faster burst frame rate and better viewfinder. So the best suggestions I can make is to look at those differences, decide which one or ones are important to you, and pick the camera with those features,
