Thanks for these tutorials, 3kliksphilip! I think they are just perfect: they are short, direct to point, informative, you talk clearly, and they always have something funny happening in the end. So it's also entertaining! Could you make a tutorial about how to do these events with the ragdoll/ falling walls like you usually do in these videos? Yeah, kinda a tutorialception.
Thank you so much for this video!! I made a sliding door years ago, and just now I made a custom door without needing to use a pre-made door!! This vid is still important in 2020!! :D Thanks again!! :D
Divine_Darkness Use caution with carving as anything you touch with it will be carved and this can create some pretty nasty side effects. It takes longer but the clipping tool is safer and more efficient. Carve can sometimes create extra unnecessary brushes.

I'm just pointing this out, but at 2:50, you've placed the door knob on the same side as the door "hinges." I know it was just an example, but others may mistake it as the correct side. Thanks for your recent uploads, I'm glad CS:GO brought you back into releasing Hammer tutorials.
I meant vertically lined up, but after making an entity door, I discovered my doorway was too short :P. The entity door comes with a handle as well, so it basically solved all of my door problems. Woo.
I know this comment is a year old, but for other people; making a door that doesnt rotate in the middle can be done by making a door similar to the first example (func_door_rotating) but making it invisible (nodraw) and then placing a prop_dynamic inside and editing the parent property to the name of the func_door. All child props (that are dynamic) move with the parent. if i explained this weird, sorry ;)
Stuck on the adjusting door part. No matter what I do, the door stretches, and then pops back into the black outline tile thing. When I stretch it out or try to adjust it, it doesn't do anything but show me what seems to be a rolling film of doors.
I don't remember when exactly, but Weasel Level Design went over how to manually move textures in his "Basic Everything" video. But this comment is so old, you probably already know how to do it :)
Perhaps it's on purpose, but the subtitles in the video helped a lot and were really accurate, since I don't understand what british people said most of the time. Does he put the subs manually or YT has perfected the captions?
Hey philip, I am creating a massive house, and a lot of the doors are double doors. I use the prop_door_rotating. The doors do not clip into other objects or eachother. During the early stages of development neither would close while another was closed, but could be closed if the other was open. I used the slave property to get them to close at the same time and it worked. However, not all of the double doors (each set has its own seperate names) would work as well. Thanks I hope you can help.
I can't change the world model to make a door handle. The menu has a black background with yellow text, and it's completely unresponsive. How do I fix this? Edit: Nevermind, it fixed itself. The solution? Just closing and reopening the editor lol. It still has an odd black background with yellow text, but it's still workable.
I made a door with a prop recently, and for some odd reason, when my door was open you couldn't walk though it. but when it was closed, you could walk through it. I ultimately decided not too include doors into my map lol
If you lucky. I used this method on my first map (was learning hammer) and ended up with textures flying off there brushes in game. I'm not a very experienced mapper myself yet, but I wouldn't recommend carve. Better do it with separate brushes and/or the cutting tool.
I've noticed most ingame doors have more dynamic handles, meaning the handle turns when the door opens, or just jiggles when it's locked. How do you do this?
Could you make an tutorial on how to make those swinging-doors that you can either hit, push or use the gravity gun to open. Example: That one gate in the Sewers with a wooden board at Chapter 10: Anticitizen One.

Hii , Im new to Hammer. I have tried your TuT, But when i make the door i dont get a single doors but 4 stretch out ones. So when i tried to modify it I just cant get a single good looking door. Anny help?
For some reason when I make a rotating door, I can walk through the door when it's closed, but when I open the door I can't walk through the opening. It's like the door model is at a 90 degree angle with the actual door entity.
I have a slight problem, at 0:25 when you adjust the door. When I try it I can't get rid of the black part of the texture, should I just use the clipping tool to cut it off? Is there something I'm doing wrong?
For the last door used, is the dynamic prop even necessary? I thought there was some sort of option in the door properties called "Hardware" that lets you use a handle or a bar.n
I'm curious to know if you have ever done a video about doors that operate with the use of buttons/keypads? I'm also having a hard time making a door operate from a keypad prop. :(
