Thank you!! I used your tricks of using a darker color for the outline and a varied line weight and my drawing looks so much better! :)

thank you, these are very good advice. I need to vary my line thickness, but wasn't sure how. I'm gonna try building them.

Thank you for these tips! I use variation in line weight by myself for years now and it really makes a difference. But using different colored pencils for it is new for me. Definitly going to try it out! Thanks!

I love how much variation in line width can add to a drawing, it's so nice! I'm excited to hear the different colours is new to you and that you're going to try it! I hope you enjoy! 🩷

Thank you for the tips :) I draw both digitally and traditionally and slow build up in lines works more in the latter for me (but maybe I just need to find the right brush setting for it to work in digital as well). As for adding weight and colors, they look awesome, I'm just sometimes not sure where to put the thicker line and where thinner or different color (drawing wavy/ curly hair right now and I can't figure out the right way to do it). Anyway, I'll try to remember and implement your tips and one day, I too shall have absolutely awesome linework like you do ^_^ Have a nice day!

Oh yes, digital can be a whole different ball game! Brush settings can make a world of difference!
The wonderful thing about line weight is there really are no rules. Just changing it up can make a real impact! I personally like to keep thicker lines on the outside of the thing I'm drawing, thinner on the inside. Or breaking up long lines with thin at the ends and thick and the middle. The same with colour, you're the boss of it and it's entirely up to you. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Curly and wavy hair is a great way to try the varied width technique. Perhaps thicker lines on the inside of the curl (to imply shadow) and thinner on the outside for highlights? Does that make sense? 🩷

Love the “chicken scratches are ok” comment! I like the variety between strong, confident, quick lines and the slower, tentative ones in a drawing - but I know it doesn’t really promote a “style”… nice to hear someone affirm some ways to enjoy the process of our art - even when it might break some of the rules 😊

Oh for sure! I maintain that there's no wrong way to create something. There might be easier, or more efficient ways maybe. But rules are there for breaking hehe. All in the name of enjoyment I say!

Ooh...as someone with somewhat shaky hands... I'll give the build the lines gradually a try. This gives me hope 😅 Thanks so much for the tip! ❤
P.s. forgot to ask what brands of pens do you recommend for line work?

Ohh, well I use so many different types. I love micron and unipin. They're waterproof and really nice and dark. Hope that helps!
