Anyone can see that Peter is struggling and not happy.
But doing this for sake of his parents.
If his parents supported him with his feelings for Madison. He would have the strength and courage to fight for her.
He felt pressured to propose to her,unfortunately for Hannah she got hurt in the process.
This would have ended differently without the heartbreak if Peter's Mom especially did not choose a favorite and let Peter make his own decision without the guilt of disappointing his family hanging over his head.
