He was building up to the moment of proposing and then he accidentally called her the wrong name, so he corrected course, and then moved on to say what he was about to say. It's so obvious. It’s sad for her actually because for all she knew, Peter could have sent Madi home. He literally kept that information out, that she left him, that’s what Hannah stood her ground on when they spoke again for first time since. Peter is a real coward. She dodged a bullet.
Peter already said that he was “ready to do this” with Madison, and he still went ahead and proposed to Hannah Ann. You don’t just flip the switch like that. The whole season just showed how much Peter needs to grow to become a husband material.

Hannah Ann was not blindsided like she claimed she was. Peter was clear on where he was @ that point in time with his heart being pulled in 2 directions. He told her he was conflicted. Day he proposed, he told her Madison left, shouldn’t that be enough of red flags for Hannah Ann not to accept his proposal. Peter should not have proposed but Hannah Ann shouldn’t have accepted either. So why just blame Peter when she too messed up?

But doing this for sake of his parents.
If his parents supported him with his feelings for Madison. He would have the strength and courage to fight for her.
He felt pressured to propose to her,unfortunately for Hannah she got hurt in the process.
This would have ended differently without the heartbreak if Peter's Mom especially did not choose a favorite and let Peter make his own decision without the guilt of disappointing his family hanging over his head.
