I def agree with putting people first (love others as yourself). Like you said, be wise in the way you make creative suggestions, etc. If they don’t want to take your advice, just suck it up and move on. It’s better than accidentally discouraging someone or burning a bridge.
I agree. But I believe you can’t get quality without the quantity first. You need to make so much music that it would be unreasonable that you wouldn’t be good.
When you're learning how to get better at something it's actually counter productive to spend all your time focusing on one project. A person who writes 52 songs in a year probably has a couple albums worth of good material by the end of the as opposed to the guy who spent several years trying to write an album. Speaking from personal experience as well. I used to be the latter type of person, but now I'm writing songs weekly and lemme tell ya, I've come up with some unexpected gems that I would have never created if I worried about perfectionism. Oh and I'd like to add that the people who criticise the whole "quantity" approach simply just can't do it themselves or else they'd see the benefits.
I would like to share something in which I will also will reshare on your creative video. Regarding singers,especially good ones. They can be overly sensitive and won’t necessarily do what you want them to do, even if you are paying them top dollar in a studio ! Imagine that ? I’m not talking about a song that they wrote but one that u wrote, and want to be sung a very specific way. It seems they can have a very sensitive ego, that u have to be very careful of crushing. So there were two things/tricks the producer would use to get around these, #1 he would always use the word Fantastic, even if it wasn’t or not what he wanted, “That was fantastic” but could we try it again, but this time do it like this … # 2 If the singer was refusing/resisting to do it the way he wanted, because they wanted to sing it different, he would cut the session short but still pay them the full hr and thank them,by saying we’re going in different direction, something like that. ! Wow ! Another thing I learned is that just because your paying, doesn’t mean that they will even sing your song if they don’t like it. Your more likely to get good singers if you’ve proven yourself by making a good hit ! It’s a catch 22 situation ! So they are very protective of their reputation! Interesting. I guess they are less worried about doing the background vocals because the risk is less and they still make good money! And this in my opinion is a very big problem, because let’s just say your goal is just to make a basic demo, just to show other singers the way you’d like it sung . What I’ve noticed also is that songs are also very style sensitive, you need a country singer to sing a country song, forget about getting a rock singer, unless your experimenting. What I’ve notice about 5ver or other platforms is that there are singers who have good enough voices but are not able to or flexible enough to customize/tailor the song the way you want either. And the ones that can are very expensive and still will not necessarily do what u ask, these are called revisions which cost more more money for each revision ! This is probably the reason most artists choose to sing their own songs and learn to sing because they know no one else will do it their way, which is sad because some songs writers just want to write. But they still need a singer to realize their song. I am in no way opposed of a singer interpreting my song and singing the way they think the way it should go and see if it comes out good, that’s ok. But because I’m the writer / artist I want my song sung a certain way. So I don’t mind two versions either. This is like an actor taking a movie script and telling the producer how it should go !
I’ll make a video on it! But for now, go where artists are. Coffee shops, restaurants, battle of the bands, live events, ect. Meet them, Introduce yourself and get some form of contact information. Like Instagram. Build a real relationship with them and you’ll start working together
@@AndrewBarrMusic I used presets when I was starting out and they probably helped me learn faster but now I wouldn't touch them. Project templates are a necessity for me though. I always record at least one guitar mic and one DI, same with bass and I have a minimal drum mic set up. It would be self-sabotage not to have that set up as a template ready to go. My guitar signal chain rarely changes as well. I get the sound as good as I can going in then it's minor tweaks with the old familiar plugins. Speeds up the process and limits the room for error.

I’ve literally did the same, I’ve recorded 110 songs in 2023 and most of them will never get heard but I still saved on another SSD 😂

Yeah, but nah. Quantity and quality go hand in hand. The more you practice, the better equipped you are to achieve quality.

I think you also need to bank songs you can't finish as at anytime the closer can appear and you say 'MF' THAT'S IT...

Templates are simply a speeding up tool. It's presets that make cookie cutter music.
It’s relying on either I think. Both are helpful, but always worth tweaking and learning
