Phil is an absolute genius. "In The Air Tonight" is now more than 30 yrs old and it continues to inspire new generations of artists. The story of that "drum break heard around the world" and its gated reverb never gets old. The Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame finally got it right when Genesis was inducted last year...now it's Phil's turn to be honored as one of the most successful solo recording artists ever.
What's crazy is that In The Air sounds like it was created today. It doesn't age. I can't believe a song like that came out of the 80's. It has aged so well.
That's because hes realistic, most people know him as the guy who watched another guy watch a lady drown, and later watched the guy drown. Genesis is not a band most people know much about, besides that it existed.
Absolutely! I think it's amazing that so much talent came and went with Genesis. Of course Peter Gabriel was great with them and solo, but so was Phil Collins. Different sounds, but both superb. I personally prefer Phil Collins, but just all around great music!
He was always like that, even as a teenager. Hell, if you look at photos of him at 15-16 in 1967, he looks much older than teenage years, passing for at the most his early to mid 20’s.
What a thoughtful, kind and talented man. Phil, of course you 'could have played anything', because you are that good. His comment about the rise of formula music being the worst of the '80s was spot on. Many blame him for that, but nothing could be further from the truth. It was the record industry shilling for money.
Phil says But Seriously is his best album since Face Value. I love But Seriously and believe it is his most important album. No Jacket Required is, however, his most popular album. But Seriously has an edge over No Jacket Required with me. I love every song on both albums but the songs on But Seriously are just more personal and rich with substance.
That's exactly the same thing I feel about Peter Gabriel all people think he is so good and really he is weird as hell and he was so good with genesis in which not really he wasn't. Matter fact people preferred at the time Phil Collins over Gabriel back in the day. Now it is Peter Gabriel they prefer to take over genesis.
@@ab932 the avg person on the street barely knows who phil collins is let alone peter gabrial lol. We all know Feel It In the Air Tonight, that's about it...
11/22 - Mr.Collins to this day is still my #1. I turn to his music just about every single day! God Bless Him.

A genuine, normal person ... No Ego Required.
i can relate to most every word of his songs. especially now. have loved it since i was young.
Paixão profunda! ❤🌹
Could he be any more patient, humble and friendly? He talks to everyone as if they've never heard of him or Genesis.

I love how he's 39 here and behaves so much older. I always thought he was older than he was.
