- Millie Brady (Princess Aethelflaed), Eliza Butterworth (Aelswith), David Dawson (King Alfred) & Timothy Innes (Edward) are interviewed for the third season of their their popular Viking saga show The Last Kingdom which has been acquired by Netflix. The hugely popular series is based on Bernard Cromwell's The Saxon Stories and has won fans with some incredible battles and compelling characters.
At the recent MCM Comic Con in London we spoke to the cast about how Netflix will chang the scope of the show, what its like working with the amazing stunts as well as what it was like returning for a third season and how their characters have developed through the process.
The interview is conducted by Colin Hart at MCM Comic Con with Ethan Hart on camera. Season 3 of The Last Kingdom will be released on Netflix on the 19th of November.

David Dawson deserves every role and accolade he gets. That dude is massively talented.

@@ditasraval2996 yeah. But I found utred underwhelming sometimes I dont know if its the writing or the actor. I am sure its a mix of the two considering he is the main character its just they try to show the brut side of uthred too much instead of focusing on his emotions like other charactersz

Honestly. Didn't think I'd like him at the beginning but he ended up being one of my favorite characters and always hated when there was tension between uhtred and himself
I was off/on hating his guts every time he would screw over Uhtred, but I couldn't help but tear up @ their final conversation... such a relevation so close to his death left us all with an Alfred sized hole in our hearts. This was clearly the intention & the writing team did a fantastic job. I constantly find myself wishing for Alfred when I see Edward make poor decisions & allow himself to be influenced by corruption.

David Dawson as Alfred is one of the best acting performances I've seen, I will remember his name and look out for his work in the future.
I found David’s role as King Alfred to be one of the best examples of acting that I have seen in a long, long time.
All in all, a wonderful series where one, couldn’t wait until the next scene.

David Dawson is utterly believable. I would love to see him cast as king Alfred again. His Alfred is cunning, merciful, pious, dutiful and demanding.... Overall a brilliant characterisation.

Absolutely. I think he was also better than his book counterpart. From what I remember Bernard Cornwell's Alfred is almost caricatural when it comes to being pious etc. Here the religious element is also strong, but unlike the books it does not make Alfred less charismatic, instead you see how it makes for a stern and conscientious leader, thanks to Dawson's great performance.

@@tadjman4059 Alfred and Wessex survive the pagan army. The fact is, that they were lucky to face the Danes at the end. The question is, would they have survived if the Danes had attacked Wessex first or second. East Anglia was the first attacked, then Northumbria and thirdly Mercia. That was the key to their survival
One of the absolute best series Ive ever seen. Casting of David Dawson as King Alfred was a mark of genius, but my no means undermines the personalities, or rich character of the remaining main players. The season 3 culmination of the relationship between Alfred and Uhltrid was not only exquisitely played out but I feel sure was also the final result that every follower of the series was hoping for. Brilliance all round. Cant wait for season 4. Well done to ALL the cast and Crew is indeed, an understatement!

David Dawson brings incredible nobility, gravitas and sensitivity to all the scenes he features in. Everything that one imagines Alfred to have been like. His final scene with Uthred brought tears to my eyes and made the hairs in my back stand to attention

Wonderful series, and yes, this season is the best so far. These are all wonderful actors, but the actor who plays Alfred is extraordinary. It's Oscar quality.

Uthred and alfred are the best actors but I should say that they are all so brilliant with their characters they're playing..Cast is so perfect.
The whole cast is amazing! Alfred and Uhtred's characters stand out though. I found myself cursing out Alfred and trying to counsel Uhtred
my damn self! GREAT SHOW. That scene between Uhtred and Brita in the woods after Ragnar was killed was everything. Father Beocca is an amazing character as well.

Alfred, for me, is the least likable character on the show, at the mid-point of season 3, but he's arguably the best actor of the cast. His transformation from season 2 to season 3 is exceptional!

Not least likeable but there was a point i couldn't stand him but i loved what they did with him in season 3. If anyone deserves a oscar for a performance its david dawson for king Alfred. I hated king alfred but fell in love with him by the end

if Uthred and Atheflead get together she will get killed. I think the show has killed off all the women that Uthred loved apart from Brida. And they have a love hate relation now
Well, Aethelflaed is a historical character, so it is fortunately not that easy to kill her👍🏻🙂. And Uhtred and Aethelflaed together are invincible!
And in the books they are already lovers at this point, so...
No, Hild is his friend, nothing more. On the books Uhtred only leaves his brother after realizing that he loves Aethelflaed. They are the central „couple“ of the whole book series...and I hope nobody actually thinks she could be with Aldhelm😂😂...

David Dawson is a massively talented guy who played king alfred in a great way. Though the cast is perfect, david stole the lights and we're very lucky to watch such a portrayal of king Alfred.
The cast is brilliant. I also want to applaud the development of Edward's character. It felt very natural to see him go from being unsteady and doubtful king material in season 3 to as strong and fierce a presence as Alfred was in season 5, but still his own kind of person. Great writing and great acting.

David Dawson is a great actor in this series. But everyone except Uthred son of Uthred is excellent! I've binged watched this series 6 times (and currently on the 7th). Now, I am studying the little things that make each character so convincing. FYI: I do not cry over sad things. EVER. But when Beocca came back to the camp and saw that Tura was gone, then she called his name and he called her name, and they ran to each other screaming each others name.... POWERFUL STUFF!!! It was like she wasn't screaming his name, she was telling him how lost in this world she would be without him... as if screaming, "Beocca!" she was letting the world know that he is everything to her and she is everything to him. I was lost for a minute.

Love this show!!! Didn’t know Eliza is so smoking hot!! You all do an amazing job on the show! Very strong acting and writing (rare these days). Eliza- your character does a great job of making me borderline hate and feel sorry for her all at the same time. That can’t be easy to to do. I’m really looking forward to season 3! Kudos!!
The great thing aside from the stellar writing and actors is that they’re able to keep the viewer sucked in-but they don’t drag it on for too long to where it’s ridiculous like some shows. It adds enough drama and intertwining storylines that have so much fluidity together. Such a brilliant show. Hope for more seasons and hope Alfred can be apart of some future ones too ! Great cast; great show.

I love both, but I’m still undecided if 3 is better than 2.
I don’t think it is as good as possible. Still at least as good as season two, but not that much better in my opinion. Perhaps because I know the books and what could have been.
Personally season 2 is my favorite (haven't seen 5 yet). Skade brought season 3 down for me a bit.
It is crazy how I came across this show because of looking up things Toby Regbo played in and falling absolutely in love with the show and its characters. And now have been looking up the actual history of it all and finding out that the real King Alfred, his wife Ealhswith, and son King Edward and whoever else was buried in the family burial lot... how their remains have been exhumed a few times over the centuries and are in fact lost and possibly buried or scattered about under the former Hyde Abbey site that a prison was built upon. The prisoners that were to clear the site so the prison could be built came across the tombs and broke them to loot them and then smashed up the bones and scattered them about. I did just read that they may have found a piece of the hip bone of either Alfred the Great or his son King Edward... looking into it more. So intrigued with history in general and love shows that lead me into delving into the history of it all. The acting is so incredible... so engaging and such an immersive world ... mesmerizing!! Alfred is such an complicated character where you admire and respect him and want him to succeed but you also despise him for not giving Uhtred the full respect and honor he deserves and all because he fears him and allows those fears to not fully trust Uhtred even though he KNOWS that Uhtred is good to his word. Alfred's final scene with Uhtred brought me to tears... I will say that Alfred saw in Uhtred the greatness...the unstoppable, fierce yet humble greatness that Uhtred possesses and that he is destined to be a leader of people. Seeing that people can look at the well documented symptoms that Alfred endured and can say it is possible that he had Crohn's disease or severe haemorrhoids... or maybe both... which I imagine with no treatment would have been just about unbearable ... it is amazing he was able to accomplish all he did while suffering so badly.
Love this series, can't wait for season 3❤️

Without question this series is one of the finest to ever appear on any medium. Kudoes need to be given to Bernard Cornwell who wrote the whole Uthred saga. As a personal aside Mlly is drop dead gorgeous.
This showed has been great. Having seen GoT and vikings I must say this one in particular has been consistently for 3 seasons making me love it, and I can't say as much for the other two. Keep going and praise him
