  • YGT Rory talks about golf holidays in Ireland and the amazing course at The European Club. There are lots of amazing holes on this course, and some really unique features that make Pat Ruddy's design stand out from the pack and one of the best links courses in the world.

Hi Rory, I'd love to see another vlog here if you can make it (with Mark Crossfield and Coach especially!). A few things I know about the course as well that you might not have mentioned...
The total par is 77 for the 20 holes, not 78. It's a par 71 (2 par 5s, 3 par 3's) plus two more threes.
The burn on 18 has been criticised far too often for being unnatural, but that's unfair.
I found the 12th green to be 10 yards shorter than the claim, according to a little time on Google Maps!
The full loop of 20 holes is 7748 yards. Even the 18 hole loop is monstrous!
Pat Ruddy wrote a great book on his finest creation called The Perfect Golf Links. You should give it a read, it's so different to other golf books!
The European Club would be top of my list for an Ireland trip. The others I would play would be Tralee and Carne. Love it!

    Rory,
Excellent video! I can not wait for my trip to Ireland next year! I will be spending a day around Wicklow for sight seeing but as you know playing my golf on the west coast! Thinking of trading Lahinch for Ballybunion now. I was in contact with people at Lahinch and they are going to be very busy hosting a few events around the time of my trip. Thanks for video keep up the great work!

      Thanks Jared.
TO be honest you can't go wrong with either Lahinch or Ballybunion so I'm sure you'll enjoy a round on either course. I preferred Lahinch personally but there wasn't much in it!
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching.
      Regards,
      Rory

Ha ha. All the vlogs you do are top class. Any courses in Florida you'd recommend. Heading over in a couple of weeks.

Cheers Conor! I've never actually been to Florida but if I was going I'd be aiming for one of the tour courses. Sawgrass or Bay Hill would be awesome!
Having said that there are plenty of options son be sure to give us a shout if you need any assistance getting something booked in!

Rory I think it was Pat Ruddy who designed this course, not Puddy

When you travel from England to Dublin, do you make a short flight over the Irish Sea, or take one of the ferries from Wales/Liverpool so you have your own auto for the holiday?

    • @yourgolftravel
      @yourgolftravel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I've done both Joe. It's obviously a long drive from London to Holyhead in Wales to catch the ferry so you have the convenience of having your own car and packing as much as you like.
Personally I'd fly and hire a car so save time and in some cases money.
You can fly into Shannon and various other airports too if you want to visit the South West and play the famous links courses down there like Ballybunion.
      Hope this helps!

Visually a hopeless video…you desperately needed a drone.

Yes you’re right. It’s only possible to see things with a drone. 🫣🙄
