  • After two weeks of trying everything we possibly could, I finally worked up the courage to put poor Peanut down.
I know in my head, it was the right thing to do... but my heart is not so convinced.
The boys are working well, and even the new boys seem to be pulling their weight over in the big barn.
The shop build is full force, with all of us helping out our plumber Mike to get the insulation down on the ground and get the infloor heat tubes laid before concrete arrives next week.
Wheat harvest is around the corner, and second cut hay needs dropped ASAP...

You gave Peanut the best life. You did the right thing. I know it is difficult. But PLEASE don’t blame yourself. He received more love and compassion in his short life than many lambs ever do. 🙏🏻

Sandi don't be hard on yourself or allow anyone else to be either. You are who you are! Your love and compassion for your sheep is so beautiful. You did your best for Peanut, and as sad as you are, just remember you loved him, and he knew he was loved all during his decline in health. He didn't die alone, even to the end you were with him loving on him and that is golden! 💛

I'm so sorry about Peanut, Sandi. But as others have said, you did the right thing for him after giving him all the love and care you could. The reason you're so great at what you do is that you do love your animals and give them the tender loving care they deserve for what they give to us. Sending a big virtual hug your way. You're awesome.

I have always kept a very close eye on the lambs that are born and mom doesn't care for them. In reality I am searching for reasons why the moms would ever do this. So many times in animals the mom instinctually knows. Peanut was such a love and tried so hard to get better. Watching him run around, being so tiny with live in his eyes and a wonderful personality. Sandi, you never give up on any of your animals but we all saw peanut suffering. Your choices are impeccable and your love is immeasurable. Peanut felt your love and safety the entire time.

I won’t lie, I bawled my eyes out, every video I had hoped peanut would finally pounce back, but knew in my heart of hearts he was not going to survive. Sheep farming is not an easy job, but it is a very satisfying when it comes to lambing season.
There is nothing worse than a Forman not relaying important information of the concrete pour date. Knowing that you are pushing to get it done for a date you have been given. He knows full well that it takes one bad store to undo all that hard work, it’s why it’s always left to the last minute to ensue that no damage happens before the pour.
