What's the need to disc or plow that deep? I'm sure that it's something so simple that if I thought about it a little bit longer I would know the reason why but I thought maybe if I were to ask someone who really knows exactly what the reason was that you plowed the earth that deeply I would understand it better. So if you were nice enough to give me a more in depth answer then I would know why you do it. Thank you for your time.
Jay Marvin If you go onto the channel (Tractorspotter), who actually made that video, you'll find it is a field in Holland. The main problem is that the 'topsoil' is often made mostly of clay, overlaying the soil in which crops can better grow in. So, by plowing that deep, you turn the soil over, so the better one is now ontop, with the clay plowed underneath ... Hope that helps.
Break a hardpan you can get with regular plowing and tilling to let the water soak in deep, which increases yield by retaining fertilizer and water. If you just had a flood and ended up with sand on top, this turns it under and mixes it with the topsoil so the field can be rebuilt. Deep chisel plows can do similar things in dry areas.
