      We thank Japan for their great engineers. Celebrating the individual creativity rather than being a cog in the wheel of collectivism as so many Asian cultures have. That is why China makes nothing or very little things in mechanical engineering of their own design Japan's culture like that of USA rewards the fruits of capitalism to it's great industrial inventors rather than stealing intellectual property as their own.

    As a proud Canadian, an earthmoving nerd in search of the true best solution for any job, and someone with a lot of experience with WTS, I am always conflicted when watching your videos. I think overall I lean towards WTS (637K push pull or 631K push loaded would be great for this job), but for long flat hauls, for operator comfort, and for the initial investment I understand the attraction of pull pans. For longevity, maneuverability, steep grades, and reduced time in the cut its hard to beat WTS. Plus I'm not dive bombing a canyon wall trying to pull as much of the mountain down with me as I can with a pan setup like you can with a WTS. Keep up the good work and maybe someday you'll start making some with motors attached :)

    We had box graders nailed in the 70’s, so what changed ? Well, machine costs and versatility. Why build a specialist twin engined unit when a dump truck chassis pushed by an agri tractor can do the same work. It is fascinating how ideas and technology go back and forth over the decades :o)

  • @scruffy6151

    The biggest advantage i see is to be able to double duty a machine you all ready have and to cut down on cost and overhead.
    Its not something new to the market but, is growing faster everyday.

    • @KTecEarthmovers
      @KTecEarthmovers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the advantage is certainly there to utilize extra Trucks that may be sitting idle in a fleet for better asset utilization. It is also an easier transition to develop truck operators to become scraper operators. K-Tec is the industry pioneer of the ADT/Scraper concept, and have refined the productivity of this effective earthmoving combination since 2007, to continue this growing market year over year!

      Operator error, he shouldnt have kept in the dirt that long. Theres probably over 60,000lb of dirt in there already, taller sidewalls would make for an overweight payload, plus make it easier to tip.

    What is the benefit over using more tradition power units when pulling the pans? To keep costs down I would think a draw bar arrangement on the back of a Volvo dump pulling a 2 wheel sulky would work well. It would also avoid the expense of taking the trailer bed off.
    OR
    Mount the 5th wheel arrangement in the dump bed of the Volvo. This would add some traction and again save time and expense - of course disable the dump lift and chain the bed down while using the truck in this configuration.
    Am I off base?
    Thanks!

    • @KTecEarthmovers
      @KTecEarthmovers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hello Bob, Here are a few considerations on why we utilize the Articulated Dump Truck Chassis Frame:
      The position of our hitch enables better visibility to the scraper cutting edge, and a shorter overall unit length. It also provides for a very tight turning radius. The removal of the dump box takes approximately a day to complete, however, that enables the shedding of approximately 20,000 lbs of extra tare weight that would slow down scraper production for the operator. Please reply for further discussions or clarification.

    • @KTecEarthmovers
      @KTecEarthmovers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the most jobsites once the contractor converts the ADT to a Scraper Hauler it remains as an efficient scraper unit. It may get switched back to Dump box if the contractor has a heavy rock project, or once the contractor decides to sell the ADT and returns it back to original configuration.

    I have noticed that more contractors are switching to a single or double pan pulled by a big 4 wheel drive articulated farm tractor, and I see your set-up using an articulated dump power unit. Is the traditional scraper becoming a thing of the past? What exactly is the advantage of these new systems? Thanks! Cool video btw.

    • @KTecEarthmovers
      @KTecEarthmovers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are merits to both the tractor and the ADT power-units, and K-Tec provides scrapers to satisfy both of these set-ups. The answer on which power-unit type is better comes down to jobsite layout and ground conditions. Please view this video link for an informative insights on whether to choose a Tractor & Direct mount scraper, or ADT/Scraper combination for your jobsite: th-cam.com/video/pUKuGlLMw-M/w-d-xo.html

    • @kodysemora311
      @kodysemora311 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The issues I've come across when working with K-tecs are mobility issues from the longer length of the pan tractor/haul truck set ups in comparison to a 627 and a loss of traction increasing wheelspin in harder materials when self loading. But I believe the K-tecs can be very efficient and productive when used in the proper application.

    • @KTecEarthmovers
      @KTecEarthmovers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great to hear feedback from a K-Tec Operator! There is a tradeoff between having a greater capacity versus a more nimble unit. K-Tec's capacity advantage over other scraper options provides the lowest cost per cubic yard to move material leading to return on investment for the Contractor.

    • @Dirtworx77
      @Dirtworx77 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ceejay960 I do not like the big 8 tire John deere tractor style with scraper pans. Our biggest issues is tire, implement tire are terrible with any kind of rocky or sharp material. We have also noticed the tires tend to get hot when loaded with any longer distances. So far we haven't noticed much issues with the ADT style tractors, and it's a big plus to have tires made for hauling. If you are doing finish grade a Cat 623 paddle wheel is the way to go. But for big hauls the most cost effective ways is the ADT or Deere style tractors depending on material.

    • @wildturkey5838
      @wildturkey5838 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Search for "manure pit" and you'll find some examples. The EPA, etc require that all waste material be kept on site and they use ponds to hold the manure, etc. until it can be spread on the fields. Yes, big expense, big problem but much better to control it at the source than try to clean up a downstream mess.

    In the tandem configuration can the operator see either cutting edge ?

    • @KTecEarthmovers
      @KTecEarthmovers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      A depth gauge comes standard on scrapers in tandem configuration, so the operator may determine cutting depth visibility on the rear scraper from the cab.
      An optional camera system may be purchased, so that the operator has clear sight on the cutting edges of both scrapers on the ADT in-cab monitor.

      The dozers & tractor are push-assisting these high-capacity scrapers, so that they load up faster for productivity, and with higher heaped capacity for efficiency.

      It is a standard Articulated Dump Truck with the dump box removed, and a hitch installed for a scraper hauler conversion. For More information, visit: ktec.com/adt-hitch

    • @KTecEarthmovers
      @KTecEarthmovers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Push-loading is useful when contractors already have a piece of push support-equipment on their jobsite, and wish to get faster loading cycle times, and larger heaped loads. For an efficient and affordable pusher machine, investigate the K-Tec Ox Block: ktec.com/oxblock

    2.5 minutes is a bit to long in the cut compared to traditional scrapers. 57s push pulling are cutting for no longer than 60s, 51s 20 to 30 tripling dirt moved. They may haul more at once but traditonal scrapers move fast cut quicker

    • @KTecEarthmovers
      @KTecEarthmovers  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's 2.5 minutes in the cut zone, the average cut time for our 63 cu. yard scraper (1263 ADT) on this jobsite was 80-90 seconds as shown in the video.

    K tec makes a good pan. But the trucks is not the way. If you need a push to load. That’s two driver two engines running all
    I see is $$$ Fuel to get a load. Wonder what hour fuel is used Cat truck 14 gal and Case tractor 10? Wow 24 gal per hour. 10 hour day. 240 gal. Two Paid employees $18 per hour.
    Wow!! Would this system move second the dirt in 10 hours?

    Old military M290 was a 4wheel tractor pulling a scraper
    So that’s been around for awhile
    This is a nice system for flat lands & hard
    Material being what appears Texas clay
    It’s not a application that could be used
    On many job sites
    I imagine dump area is pretty simple

    • @KTecEarthmovers
      @KTecEarthmovers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the K-Tec pull scraper plus an Articulated Dump Truck power-unit, you would be able to expect a price less than cost of a new traditional motor scraper (with a lower capacity rating). Huge savings come into play when you have an existing ADT in your fleet that you can convert into a scraper hauler. For an official price quote on a K-Tec scraper, please fill out the form: ktec.com/request-a-price-quote

      @@KTecEarthmovers your fuel calculations don't seem to include the push tractors. I think that operational costs including their fuel consumption is required to figure total operating costs. Once you include that fuel cost, I'd be surprised if they beat a regular scraper. Those trucks don't have enough tractive power to self load, especially tandem pans. However, 74 cut yards at 25 mph on a longer haul isn't bad. Plus the simplicity of maintenance compared to regular scrapers with all truck chassis could be a win?

    • @KTecEarthmovers
      @KTecEarthmovers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Braap250 Most of our scraper applications assume that the easy-loading K-Tec scraper is in a self-loading scenario. If you have specific sites that require pushloading, please email Sales@ktec.com as we do have additional calculator features to factor into operating costs of supporting earthmoving equipment.
