Hi Docs.. you’re almost at 100k subscribers! On the serious side I had a sleep study done and was found to have 70 episodes a night, a scary thought. My Cpap machine has given me new life, sleep better, not drowsy, and I’m alert. It was the best thing that has happened to me, it literally I think saved my life. (Long time subscriber here!)

I had no idea my oxygen level was down to 68% and I stopped breathing around 40 or so times an hr. When you live with chronic pain and autoimmune diseases these things can be silent and sadly deadly. Glad you got your Cpap 👍👍

I just (and NO this is not a paid comment) bought a MedCline sleep pillow(s). This includes an incline pillow with two additional pillows = full body pillow and a head pillow. This has made a massive difference and positive impact for me = cut my GERD/heartburn tremendously (along with cutting lactose = drinking No Lactose Milk). And I don't wake up multiple times a night (still wake up once a night to use the facilities).

Well, I can understand the recommendation to sleep alone ... that is when it is time to SLEEP! LOL. My wife and I snore alot, which in and of itself is an issue to address. But beyond that, when sleeping alone, you minimize any noise and movements that can disrupt your sleep.

Snoring, husband reads deep into the night with light on etc. Just couldn’t carry on with both of us not getting any sleep. Separate rooms FOR SLEEP. Best thing we ever did. Both sleep really well for a good 8 hours. Try it. It’s amazing 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

This is near and dear to my heart. In the past I worked shift work and had to learn to cope. A floor fan in the room helps the room feel cooler but also provides a steady drone which helps mask sounds. If the room is quite warm, placing the fan up on something to blow the air across one's feet can really help to cool you down. Light blocking shades were a must for me and worked well. I learned to use soft foam ear plugs to take care of noise, including a spouse who snores, as well as my own snoring. I've been using soft foam ear plugs for 30 years and always get better sleep when I use them. Didn't need to sleep alone after buying a king size bed, plenty of room, plus the ear plugs equals a good night sleep. I have a small amount of wine twice a week but always 4 hrs or more prior to bedtime. No caffeine for 10 hours prior to sleep for me. Found that on a sleep specialists website, however, some people do not need the 10 hours lead time prior to sleep. Finally, no dang blasted TV, especially the news, prior to or during bedtime. Great video! Thanks.

Ya shift work is very hard, I did it once at 16 yrs of age at the airport, never again as it made me quite ill and not knowing what to do with 7 a.m. sun rising after shift ended, watch the ear plugs though, a nurse told me they block the flow....

Enjoy the full moon! On days I don't have coffee ☕ I slept better! I hate going out for coffee too, all they do is complain (mostly about how broke they are? No really, a Cdn broke?) I did melatonin for long periods, it's ok, I'm sure I was a tad more tired next day, some doc was saying that it boost immune system! So I did 2 Fizers (pardon my French) and moderna jab, that was hot 🔥, almost as hot as my fire in the basement hubby feeds quite well 'cause 🎶 everyday is Saturday night but I can't wait for Sunday morning 🌄🎶 Sunday morning... Oh my son's chick saw some C-Sections for school! I was telling hubby the jock who gets all weird 😳😵 about women issues that.... Afterwards now they put mom gooo on the kid as it's a healthy bacteria! You should have seen the look on his face, it's how we evolved said I. It's truly a burden, isn't it to be the smarten one in the relationship, proof is "I'm the one who got to marry for money 💰!"

When I got sick some years ago, I moved to our "sick bay" bedroom so my husband wouldn't have to sleep in a cough cloud. Also, we are now in the age group that has awful trouble getting back to sleep if awakened during the night, so after a lot of backing and forthing with this idea, we decided separate sleeping arrangements do work for us. Sure helps with our different amounts of needed sleep-time that have evolved as well; my husband goes to bed much later and gets up much earlier than I do. Now he doesn't wake me up thrice--got to add his nocturnal potty break.

My sleep problem (as a light sleeper who must wear earplugs and play a white noise machine) ... MY ISSUE sadly comes from neighbor's music/bass THE BASS DRIVES ME CRAZY! I live in an old apartment complex in Philly and this past year the new neighbor below me has been the worst so I have to sleep in my livingroom which puts me near my kitchen and my kitchen wall is shared by a woman who rudely plays her music/bass too! Uuugh! Very upsetting and management hasn't helped ME! I love my apartment and been here for a long time. At this point now retired with a load of free time I just need peace in my home and be I seriously need to soundproof my one kitchen wall so I can nap or sleep whenever I want! I need advice or help re how to reasonably soundproof a wall. I don't want to damage my apartment wall at all cause you know whenever I move they will charge me for damages. Just want to know what I can do to soundproof it i.e. a (temporary) wall with soundproofing in front of the original apartment wall? Soundproofing products? I REALLY need help with this! It's horrible & so unfair! I need to be able to SLEEP! BTW I can't just up and move! Thanks!

Okay, so I remember me going to my PCP in 2020 and telling them I cannot fall asleep quickly which usually takes about 2-3 hrs sometimes and she asked me many questions such as do I exercise or go outside, and my asn was no. So I would stay at home all day, not getting tired and if you're not tired then you won't sleep, then I will. learn hacking and cybersecurity till 4 am, then I will pick up my iphone11 and get on the internet. I will see the time at 7 am and I started to hate my life because I will wake up at 4 pm sometimes. This led to getting sick and much other stuff. I actually put my iPhone 11 in the microwave and it no longer works because the motherboard got damaged because, at the time when I was ill, my mind was not fully alright. Now I do mini exercise for my neck since I have neck pain/muscle pain and then I go to sleep around 11, 12, 1 and get 10 hours sleep. From now on I will not;t be picking up my android to use it while I'm on the bed.
One reason why I use my phone was right after I get off my PC, I will then not feel sleepy, so I will just start using the phone.
One issue I'm having right now is a nightmare of sickness and the thing I am going through, I can feel it physically and mentally while I am sleeping. I had the worst pain and the effects are now GERD, constipation, and more.

Sleep alone. Well not really. I’ve got two cats who keep a close eye on me as I listen to them purr and drift off. CPAP is a must and having kicked my husband out of the bed helped too. Literally, I am not one to be sleeping with another human. It puts them at risk of personal injury. I have kicked, smacked, punched, pushed and basically just need to be alone when I’m sleeping. Even after getting a California King bed, that didn’t help. Needless to say I have a really great sleep with being plugged in, no devices and I get to listen to the cats purr, alone. He gets the dogs and a queen bed.

I am 72 years old, fall asleep very fast however only sleep between 6 and 6.5 hours per night. Have a nap every afternoon. I dream every night and at nap time. I dont drink alcohol, i take no caffeine after 1200 pm. Over weight by 15 pounds. Have no prescription meds. Walk 3 to 6 km most days, do some gentle strength training 3 times per week. I try everything that is recommended but I would just love to sleep 8 hours every night and not have to nap. The very few times this happens i wake up feeling so much better. Part of my problem is when i wake up at 430, i am happy and excited to start the day. Then by noon i start losing my energy. My husband and I dont have much stress, we are very lucky in our lives. I just wish i could get a better sleep routine. I take magnesium citrate for muscle cramps, but have not tried melatonin. I keep wondering if that might be the missing link for a great sleep for me.

I agree with a cool room, a dark room, please no caffeine 4-6 hours before bed, no noise or a noise machine, I think sleeping with your partner can be a good thing, actually I would alternate between sleeping alone and sleeping with your partner, buy blue light blockers so you can look at your phone before bedtime and meditation. Meditation can be done successfully different ways and clear your mind out.

I was 37 when I quit smoking. Up to that point it usually took me 20 minutes to 1/2 hour to fall asleep. After I quit smoking, it now took me about 3 minutes to reach sleep. For the last 24 years I've quit drinking alcohol. During that time that 3 minutes has been shortened to about 1 minute or less. Unfortunately, being an older man. I wake up a couple of times to hit the washroom, but that one minute to fall asleep again is fairly regular. Stay safe & thanks Brian 81

So, let me get this straight. If I talk to myself (I mean meditate), stop drinking caffeine and alcohol, get rid of the mice and pins on the floor, kick my partner out of my bed, get rid of all technology devices at night and strap something on my head that’s going to pump air into my lungs, then I’ll be able to sleep better? Pardon me for saying so, but I’m not sure it’s an even exchange. Tell your sleep expert that I don’t think he has a leg to stand on here. LOL
In all seriousness, I have dealt with insomnia for the better part of 1.5 decades. I see a sleep specialist, have had a sleep study and am on a good medicinal regimen that helps me sleep. He only makes me get rid of some of my vices, not all my DEvices! Ha!
Regarding alcohol: People who drink to drown their sorrow should be told that sorrow can swim. That’s not mine; that’s Ann Landers’.
Great content, doctors. I’m sure lots of people will benefit from the info in this video, but not so much from my comment.

    Excellent suggestions!
Another thing I do is this: Sleeping on your side with your head tilted slightly back, almost like you are receiving mouth to mouth resuscitation though with your mouth closed (again, NOT on your back; a contoured pillow helps here). This can open up your airways and make sleep easier. Just make sure you don’t overdue it because that can strain your neck.
That works for me, anyway. Results may vary with others, because I’m weird. 🤪
