Those processed vegan substitute foods can be pretty expensive, especially the ones that are actually any good. I think I remember seeing those fancy vegan burgers everyone loves on the supermarket and they were like 3x more expensive than beef. Anyone who isn't pretty well off is not going to base their diets on that, it would be like getting your protein from prime rib eye steak.
But whole vegan foods high on protein like lentils, beans, chickpeas etc are all dirt cheap. I'm not even vegan and I try to eat a lot of those because they're just cheap and great for you.

@@simongarty What don't you understand / why is it silly? Remove ethical, agricultural or health benefits, and you still have the mathematical facts that raising animals as food with a population of 8 billion starts to become impractical. You also have unsustainable meats like most fish (tuna) etc that are becoming endangered and won't be a food source in the future. I am not vegetarian or vegan as a disclaimer. Just doesn't take a genius to see why vegetarian or vegan has perks on multiple levels, and only real reason to eat meat often is selfish habit.

You are likely to experience bloating and some gas if you go straight from Omni to Vegan, just because the body will react to any significant changes in diet. When I made the decision to switch I transitioned really slowly over the course of a year and the full switch happened completely naturally without me initially realising I'd actually not had animal products for a while. Some people do just have digestion issues that mean fully plant based might not work for them, but a gradual transition is the way to go to avoid stomach issues.
Whether it enhances sporting performance is definitely up for debate but you can absolutely still perform to a high level on a plant based diet. There's some evidence to suggest plant based reduces inflammation and potentially decreases recovery time but I ain't a scientist. Personally I manage fine. I do a lot of exercise and I always have enough energy and stuff.

Tom the bloating and whatnot can be caused by eating too much fiber too rapidly and not preparing your beans/legumes properly. The tempeh was a ballsy move LOL before I had developed comfortability with high amounts of fiber that stuff would mess me up good. The best way to cook beans if you have digestive issues is to soak them overnight and rinse them next day. If you buy them canned then I would definitely thoroughly rinse them and cook them until very very soft. Also to be honest I've been vegan for 5+ years but I can't stomach processed vegan foods all the time. When I was non-vegan it was the same deal, I had constant diarrhea and cramping if I ate poorly (which I always did) so be mindful of what is going down the pipe. Assuming you moderate the processed oily/salty food intake the next most important thing is to get a TOOOON of water in. I don't have a reference for how you were eating prior, but I'm assuming your fiber intake has gone up dramatically. Fiber will suck the water (and toxins, and cholesterol) out of your body while moving through your intestines, and if you don't have enough water in your body you may experience issues feeling the "clumping up" and what not.

Being vegan is easy for me and many other people because we've been doing it for a while. I don't have to think about how to prepare everything I eat and it just becomes a lifestyle. There is a process in everything you eat, you just don't think about it because you're used to doing that process every day. I get that it is impractical for a lot of people. Most people are Vegan because they care about NOT harming animals and not really because of their health (especially with all the Vegan junk food that is out there nowadays.) Just like the majority of the population in the USA, they don't eat meat, cheese, and bacon because it is healthy. They eat it because they like the taste and it is convenient for them. "The National Center for Health Statistics estimates that, for 2015-2016 in the U.S., 39.8% of adults aged 20 and over were obese." So you can say that at least 39.8% of the U.S. population doesn't give a shit about their health, vegan or not. And that's not an opinion, its a fact.

  • @TheOfficialNukeDem
    @TheOfficialNukeDem 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think what most people don't get about nutrition is that food has 2 aspects when eating it:
    content
    consistency
Content is what nutrients each piece of food has.
Consistency is how are they grouped together.
Tom mentioned how he wonders if for instance meat magnesium is the same as veggies magnesium, and yes it is, however the way the magnesium is group together within animal products is far FAR different than the way it is grouped together within veggies/fruits/etc..., and these 2 are far different than the magnesium grouped in food supplements like MRE (which are chemical groupings).
Each does have massive benefits over the other as well:
-Nutrients grouped in veggies will stick to your system and slowly rinse it while also having moderate defragmentation, these means that you will diggest it on quite quickly and feel good almost instantly because you'll have a better and quicker digestion, hence why you'll feel lighter and faster when eating full bowls of veggies.
-Nutrients grouped in meats or animal products will have slow defragmentation and spread through your body slowly, this means that your body will have nutrients over very long periods of time and if you eat good amounts of meats weekly you'll always have good nutrients in your system, this is why no matter if you like it or not, meat + veggie eaters will always be stronger than pure vegan eaters had them both train the same way.
-Finally, Chemical nutrients like those in MRE, or Protein shakes are basically absorbed near instantly in comparison but will also have near-instant defragmentation once you burnt on your system, this is why the best pre-workout shakes you can eat are MRE you'll have all the nutrients instantly for your session instead of just caffeine or sugar like in most pre-workout shakes, and also the best post-workout routine is Protein shake + a huge meal.
On every sports-nutrition courses, they will teach you straight up, you must eat each type, you can't disregard vegetables or fruits cause they are literally the pieces that you have to balance your system, you cannot disregard animal products because you'll never peak as high as you could but also you'll be very very very susceptible to any illness if you get struck randomly and you cannot disregard chemical components neither because there are some good nutrients that are never produced natural yet your body will literally crumble without them.
Note how I said sports-nutrition courses, simply because standard GENERAL nutrition and dietician courses are outdated as fuck and I highly recommend anyone to avoid them.

First of all, thank you guys for your awesome channel and all the videos with Devon, Anton and all the other guys. I think it's fine to be not vegan if you've been raised so, diet is a very sensitive system, very personal thing that you are taught since you are a child, it took me 6 years to make that decision, i had a trauma in 2011 when i lifted something not so well, after that had a surgery, and then i started to investigate why did it happen to me, read books about anatomy, muscles, nutrition and healthy life style (China Study - everyone should read it), then accidentally watched a lecture of Gary Yourofsky on youtube. I ended watching 20+ movies about veganism and all that stuff. In 2017 Idecided to become vegan because of the dissonance i feeled about eating meat and all the information i collected and the experiments i already made with my diet (been vegan for 40 days). I felt ready. In October 2017 I became vegan, the first month wasn't easy, but afted a couple of months i felt as regular and totally fine with it. The only thing that bothered me was the i couldn't find a good vegan mayonaise in the stores, so looked for a good recipe on youtube and found it. Now i prepare it myself when i want to. I think veganism is the only possible future for us as humans, it is impossible that God created a world where one lives at the expense of the other. By the way, my wife and my son are not vegan, not yet.

I eat a lot of vegan meals as my girlfriend is vegan. I still have meat once in a while but about 85-90% of my diet is plant based. I love it and a lot of little health things have gone away. Kinda interesting but I know it’s not for everyone.

@@MrMakingwavesmedia while i do agree with a plant based diet as I follow it myself lots of people have underlying gut health issues that will fuck them up on a vegan diet if they don’t fix them first

plant based is for everyone. everyone should at least eat like you (very low meat content 5-10%, and everything else is fruits, veggies, high quality grains, etc). It is closest to the healthiest diet although I'd cut out that meat filth IMO.

Americans truly are special. $5 buys you about 15-20 pounds of potatos here in Germany, not 5. And a can of beans is like 30 cents, not 2,29. It's like they really try to make it hard to eat healthy.

I just did 1 month lacto-vegetarian. I have diagnosed anxiety & insomnia and am on SSRIs which cause fatigue and lowered energy levels. The first week sucked, I was bloated and tied to a bathroom, but since then I have noticed heightened energy levels. If nothing else, that has been enough to encourage me to keep it up. I am on week 6 now.

      @@MrMakingwavesmedia ¬ I second this statement.
Our digestive tracts are of similar length to other herbivores, our jaw muscles are comparatively very weak compared to actual carnivores, our canines don't mean anything (gorillas have very large canines and are very herbivorous), we don't have claws to take down prey, we run a very real risk of death if we eat raw animal flesh and even cooked flesh is detrimental to our health long-term, and the sight of farmed slaughter puts us off our appetites whereas such a sight doesn't bother a real carnivore. We rely *heavily* on fire, tools and dissociation to counter it all.
Humans are just herbivores in denial, made in large part by social conditioning to believe we need animal products to live, an ideology which is literally forced down our throats before we even learn to talk, then socially reinforced.
