I’m from the Midwest in the USA where we have a strong marching band tradition, and I always love to see the various British regiments march, ESPECIALLY during the Trooping of the Colors. Much respect to them all!!!
I know, right! The British Army really totally commands attention when they're on parade! The cameramen who filmed these ceremonies certainly know their business! They capture the most flattering angles of the soldiers.
This tune 'Grenadiers' Return' is mesmerisingly gorgeous. It is a real earworm. Adopted apparently after the Regiment had defeated Napoleon's Imperial Guard at Waterloo but actually an older tune. The Grenadiers' other Slow March was presented to them by Handel in 1725 and subsequently used in his opera 'Scipio'. What a tradition!!
There are 2 slow marches for the Grenadier Guards Regiment. Scipio and Grenadiers Return (Duke of York). Grenadiers Return is used when the regiment returns to the barracks and at the Trooping of the Colour. The one being played in this video is the Grenadiers Return.
They always say the Grenadier Guards. It’s the Scots Guards. I did the Escort to the Colour in 2012, with the Coldstream Guards; again saying it was the Grenadier Guards! 🤦

our Kenyan troops plays this every Jamhuri day during the trooping of colours ceremony.
Ours is much slower though. The British one appears much clearer and abit faster
Because it's their song. It's not Kenyan. And that also implies that a significant part of our culture is British culture.
@@kevinligusi3525 We inherited the British military traditions after we gained independence from them.
Then they are fine boys. Very fine.
And they do it beautifully!
