  • Part 5 - Guards March Past the Queen in Slow and Quick Time
360 years of Trooping the Colour - Queen Elizabeth II's Birthday Parade 2011
    BBC
The Field Officer gives the command, "Officers, take post." Nos 1 to 5 Guard then "retire", about-turning and right-forming into review formation. Nos 1 to 5 Guard then about-turn again as the Corps of Drums play. (Since No. 6 Guard is already standing at right angles to the other five companies it does not need to execute this movement.)
Once intervals are established, the Field Officer salutes the Queen and informs her that the Foot Guards are ready to slow-march, then commands, "Guards will march past in slow and quick time!" and orders the slow march.

I am a proud citizen of the Irish Republic who has stood on the Mall along with my late English Wife to watch the the guards return to barracks following the main ceremony in Horsegaurds, We did that 3 times, and used to catch a train to London and have breakfast on the train. We stayed overnight in a hotel next to picadilly circus and always visited the London Eye. It was my beloved wife's annual birthday present from me, and I still remember the proud swagger of the Irish Guards as they marched past us on the return to barracksl

There is actually one military event in the US that comes much closer to this than the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and that's the Marine Corps Evening Parade at the Wachington Monument and the Evening Retreat at Marine Corps Barracks at 8th & I. There you'll see a parade of ~ 2 companies of Marines, a performance by the Silent ?Drill Platoon, along with performances by the Marine Crops Band, and the Marine Corps by the Marine Corps Drum & Bugle Corps. A much smaller affair than this ceremony but done with the same amount of pomp and circumstance.

The drill is absolutely magnificent. What touched me the most is hearing the commentator explaining how all the infantry men had been gathered before the ceremony (which HM Queen Elizabeth used to grace herself, riding elegantly side saddle) to reflect on all the traditions they are upholding, which indeed goes well beyond a parade, giving it a spitritual dimention. Long live HM Queen Elizabeth.

  • @79wavygravy

I'd like to paraphrase Robert Graves. There are men who are good at drill, there are men who perform well in the trenches, the best of men are those that can accurately perform their drill and translate that discipline to their performance in combat.

God save Queen Saxe Coburg and Gotha [ fake windsor name since 1917 ] ?
Save the poor the helpless homeless those who served in armed services
Your Royal Highness for what exactly ? silly made up titles , utter claptrap
the sheer absurdity of HRH silly made up titles
four generations of spongers on the balcony
The former Royal Palace (now the National Museum of Art of Romania) ....21 December 1989 Bucharest.
and self entitlement , all dished out by granny saxe coburg and gotha
as the royals live in palaces with chefs and maids pontificating claptrap and hypocrisy.
The cost to the taxpayer of events like trooping of colour, royal weddings the security detail alone was £24M + for meghan and harry. more funding for hospitals and schools .Oh no ,hundreds of millions spent on buckingham palace and extension at kensington palace . while homeless sleep rough on the streets.
.As food banks open ,and poverty and homeless on the rise.
wearing chocolate coin medals ascending to very high military ranks just because royal status , in most cases no active service mollycoddled by special forces as a PR exercise .
Inequality is perpetuated with a medieval feudal unfair society this is so 19th century.
Democracy is about the people voting and our children aspiring to be The next UK head of state not via birthright and self entitlement
Stasi form of brainwashing the public into acceptance and validation.
will not work in the 21st century.the monarchy is a waltz into the past , stifling the evolution of democracy in a modern democratic society .
