At the moment, there's a ton of out-of-work writers and directors, who are quite talented and proven. But, Kathleen Kennedy only hires mediocre talent, because she wants to push women into roles, they aren't equipped to handle. The fans don't care if 'Star Wars' has the "first woman director", or the "first LGBT showrunner", or the "first transgender-space witch". All true by the way. Fans just want the show to be GOOD. Something Disney doesn't care about. 😒😒😒

When you say that the first two episodes weren't that woke, you've just gotten used to all the propaganda over the last few years. Having no positive white male characters in a Star Wars show is not normal. That is very progressive.
I think we've got a near absence of positive characters in this one. Even the "good guys" are highlighting the problems that will lead to their downfall.
Oh, and two of the four main Jedi characters are white male actors. They did kill one off already, but it's looking like we'll continue seeing him through flashbacks throughout the show.
Great observation, at this point we've been hit with so many woke shows, we've lost a sense of relativity. It is actually quite shocking things could fall this far.

@@StealthyJim Yes, absolutely, it seems like the show, even at the foundational writing stage, had very little thought put into the actual craft of story. But rather, it was all about twisting Star Wars into a platform for social justice venting of themes which may have no spine of truth to them in the first place! IF it had been great, people might have overseen the WOKE part.
But it was obvious that the WOKE was aggressively destroying the writing quality. So yeah, it is super bad.
You're absolutely right, it seems the show was made with showcasing woke themes as its primary purpose, so the task of creating an aesthetic and entertaining work of art was an afterthought. It's really tragic. I hope The Acolyte marks the true end of this regime at Lucasfilm.

It is amazing how low-budget The Acolyte looks considering it's monumentally high-budget. It's hard to believe that Star Wars movies from the late 1970s look more cinematic than Star Wars now, and they use all the top equipment to make The Acolyte. I really hope they turn it around soon, but I don't they will...

I actually hadn't seen the opinion I expressed in my video anywhere else. Certainly, no one was emphasizing it. I see lots of people talking about the show being woke. And pointing specifically to that as the problem. But my problem with the show is the poor craft. But that's just me.

E1 & E2 were not bad, but E3 was poorly conceived, written, and acted. I’m grateful Disney cast no straight white men in the Acolyte. Our hands are clean. We had nothing to do with this screw-up.

I do care about good writing. And oh boy this series has none of that. The first 2 episodes were already pretty bad.

I think the feeling now is, people have given Lucasfilm a chance for long enough. Now we really want them to get their act together before we all lose complete faith in Star Wars.

To me it seems like it's a deliberate marketing move. They stir up controversy for free publicity making people either hate watch it or make the ideologists watch it, because they want to support the message. People need to stop watching these shows altogether. Especially Star Wars, that franchise died with Episode 1 anyway...

This show is bad for the same reason most Christian movies are bad: The message has been given priority over the story. I have come to my own conclusion that "woke" does not mean simply to show diversity, but to embed anti-male and anti-white themes into the story.
As a counter-example of non-woke diversity, there is The Expanse which goes further than Disney dares to a primary non-white character who is a lesbian in a gay poly-amourous marriage...and she is an absolute fan favorite who has spawned her own spin-off game series. And she's not the only gay significant character in the story. Nor is she the only woman...in fact, by the end of the series, the two most undisputed powerful people in the solar system are women (one of them gay)...and the scene of them meeting was dramatically awesome. Most of the powerful characters are women, most of the irredeemable villains are male, and even the "bad" women get redemption arcs...but there is no fan backlash, because _good_ writing has organically put these women into those positions and there is no anti-white or anti-male message in the story.
The fact is that the male science fiction audience has _always_ been on the forward edge of gender and race progressiveness in each decade...but no audience is going to put up with being crapped on by content producers.

The craft of story and filmmaking holds incredible potential for communicating a message and emotion to the entire world. When used properly it actually innovates society. It's so tragic that modern Lucasfilm forgoes that opportunity and instead spits in the face of the fans who made Lucasfilm rich and successful. It makes no moral sense. I hope it ends as soon as possible.

Today, it seems some feel compelled to destroy anything they don't like. It's not enough to say 'meh, not for me' anymore. There has to be bashing, name calling, and hate. As a culture, we are doomed if we can't at least tolerate differences. If Disney wants to turn Jedi into ballerinas, then DON'T WATCH!

But The Acolyte is a little bit of a unique situation in that, the Star Wars fanbase, is probably the largest and most passionate in the world, so they naturally take an interest in any new works (nowadays with fingers crossed). But the tragedy is in the consistent failures by Lucasfilm and a glaring inability to learn from their, now world famous, mistakes. I actually think your point about not watching the show is the overarching result The Acolyte will deliver-extremely low viewership. As already it seems most fans watched the show's debut but have since lost interest. So, there we are!

ALL I have seen has been criticisms about the horrid nonsensical writing and wooden acting with a production value that doesn't seem to reflect the budget, but worse still is how dull it is. I kind of wish they'd have gone all in on the agenda and message, would be horrid, but something would happen. HoTD has a similar budget and produces hour long episodes at a significantly higher quality in all aspects of show development in my opinion. I find it so sad, I want to love new SW.

I really hope they run out of money soon! I want Lucasfilm to be devalued so much that someone can swoop in, buy it, then totally turn Star Wars around. That would be great.

I only hope now Disney, or their backers, lose enough money that the push for DEI becomes a low priority. Before woke became a word, there were a lot of tasteful independent films that showed the hardships of LGGBT or racism. They were tasteful because they did not forget the human element. They weren't about splitting people into categories, but rather to allow regular normal people to be able to relate to their hardships as individuals. To do that, it requires sufficient character development, and those characters will be scrutinized as any other human regardless of their gender/race/other qualities.
The big issue now is that the ideology has become bigger than the human element. Instead of trying to unite all of us through empathy and compassion, it does the reverse and tries to demonize "cis white men" or "cishet" or other pejorative terms that describe qualities of normal people that are neither good or bad.
Wow! Amazing comment! Thank you for your insights. And I agree with you 100%. Woke motivated entertainment uses woke subject matter to the company's political satisfaction. It is often not even taking into consideration whether the people of a particular demographic are okay with being showcased as the downtrodden or as less-than. And, The Acolyte, seems to only be exaggerating that problem.

People have to "force" it into the woke vs anti-woke dichotomy because they can't actually praise it based on its merit, they have to place the blame on their ideological enemies in order to defend it.
Sadly there's a significant amount of people who it works on. It's all psychological.

For me, the gender, personal life, and ethnicity of the actors is irrelevant. There are great performers of every shape and form, and they deserve a chance to show their talent. But these recent Star Wars productions have been so crude and devoid of anything cinematic. That is, in my opinion, the problem. Star Wars, to me, is meant to be an epic work of art. And the current stuff is thin, small, truthless, and artless.
