So glad I found this before going into labor! I was due last Wednesday but baby boy is taking his time. I’ve been terrified of labor even knowing I’ll choose an epidural because I’m so scared of pain and just the overall unknowns of labor. This is my first child and I feel very unprepared for labor despite researching and asking questions. Any comfort or encouragement you can offer will be greatly appreciated!

My birth experience was quite an experience to say the least. My epidural took several tries and after two days of failed induction they had to put me completely under to take him by c section. But he’s out and we are both healthy. My body wasn’t ready to give birth but they had to induce me because of thyroid problems. The epidural kept slipping out of place which was so frustrating. Definitely not easy getting it back in while having contractions!!
Congratulations on your pregnancy! I am so glad that you are finding the videos helpful. That is why I put out a video every week. Please let me know if there is a topic that you would like to see me cover next.
38 + 4 today with baby #4 and our first girl. Been enjoying so many of your videos. Love that they are so informative and also not tediously long. Great for me
Congratulations on baby#4! As a fellow mom to 4, I think it is amazing!! I really appreciate your comments about the videos. That is excatly what I am trying to achieve with them. Long enough to get at least a few points of information across without taking all day. I'm hoping to grow and reach more people like you! If you are part of any bump groups or similar and feel like sharing about the channel, it would be so appreciated. Wishing you all the best in your 4th labor journey, Alice
I'm wondering do most hospitals provide the walking epidural option whereby you receive a lower med dose so a lot of the pain is decreased, but there's still enough pain for you to feel the contractions & know what's going on with your body
My entire pregnancy till my child birth I had a very knowledgeable midwife, and I took 3 child birth classes. I’m glad I didn’t take epidural during my labor, although the nurse had offered me 3 times. I was also prepared the worse (long labor, or cesarean) But I was able to endured the pains and birth for almost 6 hrs (from checking in to delivered)
I’m due in December with baby #2 and I plan on getting an epidural. Also, I did get an epidural with baby #1, and I thought it would take away my pain 100%.. but, it didn’t. He was sunny side up and imo, the epidural didn’t seem to work. I’m more educated and prepared now.
Hi Alice! So I thought that epidurals made it so that you can't move though? I thought they completely numbed your body where you physically aren't able to move.
With my first, I was so numb from the epidural I couldn’t feel anything when asked to push. I didn’t even know what to do. Is there anyway to avoid that this time around? Any tips?
This is a great question Ashley. You have a couple of options. 1) Speak with the doctor about wanting to feel more during pushing. Sometimes they are able to turn down the infusion of epidural medicine so that you have more feeling. 2) Skip the epidural. Second babies often come faster and sometime it is hard to even get relief from an epidural because the baby is coming so fast.
I know you made a video about your office but i was wondering if you can go into more detail with it. can you show us what all you put in your baskets, what kind of clothes you wear for interviews and what you wear for births? can you also talk about where you meet the clients do you have them come to your house, go to their house, or meet in a public place?
Great questions Sarah! Actually I moved since my last office video. Maybe I need to make another updated one. I I highly recommend 2 classes that I created with lots of good doula information. One is on the interview at DoulaInterview.com and the other about doula prenatals at DoulaPrenatal.com.
I’m hoping maybe you know: when I was being given mine, I felt this terrible feeling like I was being shocked from the inside. It made me scream out in pain. It wasn’t the burn from the medicine. It was after that. It was a terrible experience. And my anesthesiologist was not compassionate at all, he kept yelling at me to quit jumping, but i physically could not because of the shocking feeling.
Hi, I hope this question isn’t to invasive but I really would like to know how painful was the removal of the urine catheter after everything. I’ve searched everywhere for personal experiences on TH-cam and found NOTHING!!
I’ve had 3 epidurals and didn’t experience anything more than one second of “pressure” at the removal of any of them. But I’m in the “loved my epidural camp “ 😂
I've had both experiences. I think once you experience the bad one it doesn't matter if you had 20 good experience, your just dreading the bad one again.
Can you alternate sides while receiving epidural? I read that sometimes it will work on the side that it was injected in and the other side some moms feel all the pain..
My partner got the epidural after not wanting it to begin with, and during a push, it wore off completely and she felt everything , when she checked out of the pain and focused , she instantly panicked when realizing the epidural really was not working
I'm due April 7th 2022 and I'm quite nervous and can't afford childbirth education classes. I think it's so important to take them though, but money is so tight. Do you have any suggestions or help? I'd love to hear from you.
That was really helpful. As a new doula, I feel like I have learnt so much about physiological birth, but have only maybe one or two ways I could truly help for the other types of birth. I was wondering if you could do one on the c-section? And if you have more tips for the epidural, I'll be happy to watch!

It varies widely from location to location. It’s a great question to ask your provider.

Hi Alice! So I thought that epidurals made it so that you can't move though? I thought they completely numbed your body where you physically aren't able to move.
No! It really depends on your body and the epidural.

That does happen with some people. I am sorry that you experienced that.
I loved my epidural it took away my contraction but hated it after cause it worse completely off before pushing and made me so tired after was awful
Thank you for sharing your experience!

Great question! I don't believe that most people feel discomfort with the urine catheter removal.
@@birthtoolbox awesome to know, thanks a ton! ❤️

That's a very good point Deyanira!
This my first baby it was ok , but my 2nd baby it didn't even work for me I swear they didn't even hit my spine they poked me twice 🤧
Are Epidurals supposed to hurt when they are being done ? I got a epidural when I was in labor and it hurt so much when The epidural was being done
No, most people don't describe the procedure as painful. I am sorry that it was for you.
Can you alternate sides while receiving epidural? I read that sometimes it will work on the side that it was injected in and the other side some moms feel all the pain..
Yes, it is standard practice to switch sides after the epidural is given.
My first epidural didn’t work for me😭😭 I’m hoping for success this time around
I'm hoping for success for you too Samantha! It is so hard when you want an epidural and it doesn't work.
My partner got the epidural after not wanting it to begin with, and during a push, it wore off completely and she felt everything , when she checked out of the pain and focused , she instantly panicked when realizing the epidural really was not working

I have a free class starting here on TH-cam on December 1st! You can register at birthtoolbox.com/register
The more you learn/prep, the more likely you are to be satisfied with your experience!
Couldn't agree more!
Can you feel the catheter go in with an epidural?
Some people experience a pressure sensation.
Thank you!

Great idea! I'll add that to the list.
Without epidural I was so exhausted forget pushing I ended up having c section.
Thank you for sharing your story!
Even if u got epidural ur tired no matter what
Homework!
Thank you for always leaving a comment. Brings a smile to my face.
@@birthtoolbox I know it makes a big difference in thr algorithm. Lol
Do I have to get a catheter?
Yes, if you get an epidural you will have either a Foley catheter or a straight catheter depending upon what your hospital uses.
@@birthtoolbox do you know which would be better ? I’ve always felt like I can’t empty my bladder since my last catheter five years ago
@@bluemoon_love9798 usually you don’t have much of an option. Really depends on the policy.
