I love this, and I think it shows that doulas are not there to force anything on their patients, but rather there to support what the mothers decide and need personally. That's so key. It feels to me that there is a misconception under medical personnel out there (well, in some countries at least) that doulas are there to bully the doctors/midwives/mothers into going all natural no matter what. That's so sad, because it's so untrue. 😢 A properly trained doula is there for her patient's wishes only.
This is a great video! This is such a common misconception in the birth world. You, as the birthing person, have a choice. Our job is to let you know the benefits and the risks so you can make an informed decision that is yours and yours alone. Well done ladies!
@@birthtoolbox a few that come to mind off the top of my head … are: 1) That doulas will take the place of the partner in labor and birth. 2) That doulas can come in the birth space with an “agenda”. 3) That doulas verbally speak for the birthing person.
I love this video! I love that they said it’s great if it’s what the mother really wants and is not pressured into a decision or making a decision out of fear and lack of knowledge. I was one of those who chose an epidural for all four of my previous births out of fear and pressure and I wish I hadn’t. Now that I’m about to have baby number 5 I want to have the birth I always wanted, and not one that I have felt disappointment or trauma over. I am still open to an epidural if I TRULY WANT OR NEED ONE. Not because I have been coerced into that decision for someone else’s benefit or because I had been taught to fear childbirth. I know I am strong and my body is powerful and I can do this the way our bodies were intended to.
staying home to birth makes this way, WAY more likely to achieve. i have had all my babies with husband attending at home. about to do another. we're so proud and it's so worth it, ftr.
Huge shout out to the doulas who participated in the video. I’d love to do a part 2…what question should we ask the doulas next?

Thank you Kathryn! What's the next misconception about birth and/or doulas we should bust?
