@@juliusrock4214 I care ;) So there. For real though, it's not just one chord. He changed the entire chord structure of the chorus, and it just doesn't fit the song as well as the original. The way it harmonizes with the vocal melody messes with the entire vibe of the chorus.
I actually don't mind this live version at all, Navarro changed it up alittle bit into more of his kind of style , but I'd rather frusciantes anyday.

Navarro is a great guitarist. I loved him in Jane's Addition. However, this performance is BORING. That was what was so great about Frusciante, even when it sounded like he was fucking with the song he was trying to play it differently. This performance is clinically perfect. It replicates what we've already heard too closely. I don't recall Navarro doing this with Jane's Addiction. Maybe because it's not his song, it's not his guitar licks. I dunno.

I hate it, when everyone is dissing Dave just because he played John's songs..no what the fuck? dave does an awesome performance on this, and OHM is one of their best albums, and if you think navarro sucks, check out the jane's addiction, and then tell me that he sucks..Just because he doesn't play like John doesn't mean that he's shit..I actually think that this guy is better soloist than John, but John is better for funk, so shut the row of and enjoy the music!

Good shit. Usually look for performances of OHM songs (considering they never touch on the album these days besides Pea, sadly - a shame, even if half the stuff might not fit to most you can't deny that something like Walkabout would be great to hear), but this caught my eye.
God, I wish I could've seen them play live with Navarro. Hooray for being only five at the time, I guess. ;[ By the time I'd even find out about the band, they'd had John back for a few years.

This is in my opinion, RHCP's 2nd best line-up, "losing" (for the lack of a better word) only to John Frusciante's and yes, better than with Slovak (R.I.P) and Josh.
I actually Navarro was great on this performance
all guitarists have there different styles...maybe everyone familiarizes themselves with the chili's as john the best and original,as they peaked as a band with him...baring in mind the original four of the band with slovak.

If I close my eyes and listen to any live version of of UTB I can always tell it’s Navarro on guitar because of that 4th chord he plays in the chorus, it’s not quite the same one John plays but it sounds very beautiful
Why can't Dave be singing the last part, he sounds so damn good at Woodstock and Reading 1994 when he sings but they wouldn't let him in 1995 or 1996 and put these terrible background singers when Navarro is more then capable.

I think Dave played it pretty good. When I saw Josh play it, it seemed kind of muted and a little too soft. But of course John plays it perfectly!
Navarro plays cleaner than Frusciante but Frusciante is a WAAAAYYYYY better song writer. Love them both for their contributions to RHCP. I just will forever love Frusciante the most. He is the reason they are so big!!

A song is a musical arrangement and melody. A poem is a group of words. Anthony had a poem, John made it a song.

It's different in a number of key ways. The biggest one is that he changed the entire chord structure of the chorus, making the chorus itself sound a lot different from the album version (and imo, not in a better way at all). Also the slow, smooth way he plays the verses is a long way off the mark from the original too. The original is smooth peanut butter with a bit of crunch, while this is just cold syrup.

Well he is a good singer as he proved on his solo album, but he doesn't really have the right voice for this kind of song. He cam't really sing falsetto like John does.

Not just 'embellishments,' they are actually different chords, making the progression in the chorus different than the original song. Maybe some people might prefer it but I sure don't.
