You are mandela effected. Everybody remember the lyrics, like you wrote them. I also remember 'angels'(pleural). But in this reality, it's just: ..'is the city I live in, the city of Angel'
Under The Bridge' is an absolute classic that captures the raw emotion of isolation and longing for connection. Anthony Kiedis' vocals, combined with the hauntingly beautiful guitar riff, create a timeless atmosphere that hits deep every time. The song takes you on a journey through the soul of Los Angeles, expressing both the highs and lows of life in the city. It’s a powerful reminder of vulnerability and finding your way through moments of loneliness. Truly a masterpiece that never gets old.
I hit the coke and amphetamine wave of the late 90s, in England. I was 17, and was into mostly punk, and ska. But, this song was EVERYWHERE. It permeated parties, after parties, speakers, guitars.....You name it. EVERYONE loved it....Goths, punks, metalheadz, bikers, ravers....it just moved around and did it's thing. I guess it just finds everyone who needs it. I lost my mind, my house, my job, my partner, had a bunch of hospital visits, surgeries, psychological episodes, went to war, went to rehab, and got kicked out of the army. I then struggled for another 8 years. I'm 5 years clean this month. Life is good. It's sad....leaving that world, and the people in it. Real life is strange. These days I'm addicted to physical training and gardening! Funny, eh? Good luck everyone, and thanks Anthony!
On his interview with Joe Rogan, he said he was proud LA Eses would jame this song in their low riders. I thought that was very cool. He also describes how this song came to be with Rick Rubin.
Anthony wrote this song about his loneliness due to addiction, but little did he know this very song would relate to much more wider spectrum of humanity, especially those who feel lonely
@@crazyplantmoomin3110he just wasn’t though. It was about his relationship with John and Flea fading and he was back on his rampant drug use and he would be shooting up with Mexican gangbangers under an overpass somewhere. Pretty sure he had a nice house at that point because of the recent success of Mothers Milk.
I was in college and Agood friend from cali was a bodygaurd for the chilli peppers he did a report and he said that Anthony and his best friend were shooting up under the bridge and his friend OD and died c
is there anything more fulfilling than being able to say I DON'T EVER WANT TO FEEL LIKE I DID THAT DAY? that's a chance to look back on the past and say no to it with complete confidence. to me that represents total clarity and control in life... just another word for bliss.
I loved this song as kid. But when I came off heroin 13 years ago. It has a whole different meaning and hits differently. It feels like someone else’s life now looking back.
Struggling with alcoholism for the majority of my 20's, I'm proud to be 16 months sober. Every sober day is a blessing from Christ. This song still makes me feel every emotion, so grateful for it!
And to think that it was just some old throwaway poem Anthony Kiedis wrote in a notebook and was too embarrassed to show to his bandmates. Imagine where the Red Hot Chili Peppers would be today if Rick Rubin hadn't seen it...
I'm black but in the 10th grade while in a alternative class my teacher Mr Matthews played a few rock songs for me. He seen how hooked i was so he burnt a cd for me and this song was on it. Thank you Mr.Matthews for introducing me to Red Hot Chili Peppers
I imagine people who don't know English thinking this song is romantic because of its calm melody and playing it at romantic moments like weddings without knowing that the song tells how the vocalist overcame addiction.
There is nothing better than saying goodbye to the year listening to the band that helped me in my hardest moments, thank you very much for everything rhcp and happy new year to everyone
I'm 14 yrs old listening to them I love them same here that helped me through thick and thin I js want to say God bless all of you have anwonderful blessed well being day. If ur going through an addiction stay strong you'll get through it. Thank you rhcp for your wonderful music.byou guys are a legend
I listened to this song during my darkest days. Heroin addiction had me by a hold so strong, I gave my entire life away over and over again. Giving more than I had to give. I finally checked myself into detox and by the Grace of God, am 5 days sober. 5 days. I know it seems small, but it's everything to me. Now I can listen to this song with tears of happiness. Thank you RHCP, I couldn't have done it without songs like this one. We do get better.
As a fellow addict (stoner, alcoholic, and nicotine) godspeed. I'm here because I'm still not in a good place and probably never will be, but 5 days without something so hardcore is astounding. I believe in you.
Please keep trying. Even if you fall down again. I’m 5yrs this week. Which was completely impossible to think of from where I was. I Failed so many times but kept going. It can happen.
Those first few days are the longest. They get shorter and shorter, easier and easier. It will never leave you but you'll eventually get to a point where you like the new things about yourself enough that you don't want to go back to the old things. You got this, head up, be proud, you're doing the right thing, keep it up. So many people are so proud of you.
I can relate to this 25 years ago. I ran away from home because my parents both are drug addicts. I live under the bridge for some time. It was some stressful times. so I tried cocaine and I was addicted to it. Until I met the love of my life. It was what you call love at first sight. to make her my Lover I need to stop. but I can't. so I started working at a Grocery store and I realized I can stop just by making myself busy. After Sober I cofessed to her and she turns out she loved me too. Now we have 2 childrens. and I don't contact my parents anymore because I heard from the neighbours they are still drug addicts. Thank you for hearing me out. This was the toughest moments at my life.
The intro to this song could not be any more perfect at describing the feeling of addiction. It sounds so beautiful but at the same time you know there’s something wrong with the ascending and descending through the notes. And that slide man. That slide is where it takes you for a whirl. So happy that this song exists to help me cope with what I’ve been through and this will forever be the anthem for recovery.
The guitar has always this emotion description in RHCP. Its just amazing and makes us reflect. Be strong. My problem is alcohol i tottaly understand you
Fr come hop in my time machine and go back to the good times screw this modern age shit hell, I was born in 2000 and know this generation is going to shii!
This was one of the first music video my dad showed me. Red Hot Chili Peppers was one of his favorite bands to listen to , he passed away last year . I still cant believe hes gone. Love you dad ,forever, rest in peace. You're in a better place ❤
That chorus gives me goosebumps... How many moments of despair, hopelessness and tragic fates like the one described hasn't the world seen? Great lyrics
Thinks about those I've lost to overdose. The ones that continue to overdose, but just can't seem to quit. And me constantly struggling not to use, and sometimes I fall down. Makes me weep listening to this song.
Ima full blown drug addict who's gots MAD mental health issues and I'm trying to get my life straightened out cause I've had so much fucking shit happen to me thru my life. I been doing drugs since I was 14 but I used hard shit when I was 18. I've never stopped a day since then cause it controlled me and I can't even tell you the trauma, abuse and illegal bullshit that's happened. But ima try to get off but I hate but I love it at the same time. Something's gotta give.
I feel you, my parents fight a lot with little regard to the emotional effects it has on me, I also have frequent anxiety attacks. Even when no one is around for me, I always have RHCP to comfort me. Keep going love.

Man, it feels crazy because I've been a RHCP fan since I was like 11 because I liked how they sound, yet now that I'm an adult I'm finally paying attention and understanding the lyrics and I feel like I became a fan all over again.
I've been fighting with addictions for a while now. I had the pleasure of going to one of their concerts and being able to see them there, live, knowing were they come from in life really gave me strength.
I feel like people don’t know this song is about Anthony’s heroin addiction and so many people don’t give the song the appreciation it deserves, this song had an impact on so many people.
it was pretty well known in the 90s. They talked alot about in interview, VH1 behind the music, where are the now, pop up video and lots of other shows.
Six boys, all about ten years old, on the way to swimming lessons while riding in the back of an open pickup truck in 1992, belting this song at the top of their lungs at 60mph. No shirts, no seatbelts, no fear of getting pulled over by the cops. The 90s were a magical time. I miss those days.
Hi 👋 I'm here 19th December 2024... chillin 😎 in Australia 🇦🇺 😎 I love there'd Hot Chilli Peppers 🌶 😋 because their lyrics are amazing. I understand better now at 52 yrs young.. Generation X youth... upbringing .... I love ❤️ 🇺🇸 USA... also. God bless 🙌 🙏 🐚 Shelly
A girl I sat next to in Grade 7, we both liked this song. The last time I saw her was the last day of Primary school in 1992, and every time I hear this song, I remember her.
Back in Tempe Arizona 2010 this smokin hot fox named Nicole sat next to me in an astronomy class and we would go to my place and smoke and vibe to Red Hot. She’s the one that got away. Where ever you are now I hope you feel the same
In 2003 chilly peppers opened for Snoop Dog in Atlanta. Did great! Snoop Dog did 3 songs but left way too early because stage manager would let him smoke on stage between songs. Red hot Chilly Peppers came back out and rocked the house for the next hour. By far the greatest live concert I've ever been too.

I was 13 or 14 yo when this video came on MTV and it changed me forever. Now my husband and I bring our toddler to their shows anytime they are in Chicago. I am grateful for how this bands music continues to make my life full of joy. I always come to this song for strength. The origin is epic also never know how a poem in a notebook can change the trajectory of all our lives. Thank you RR and AK❤

I realized I hit rock bottom when this song came on the radio and I cried harder than I have cried in my entire life. It felt so good to just finally be able to cry like that. The lyrics are to be interoperated but as an addict who lost someone very special to me this song was exactly what I needed to hear at that moment in my life. I've heard this song a million times and never even almost cried. But that day it completely broke me and now I love it more than ever. I truly never want to feel the way I did that day but it's important to remember none the less.
That's what this song does bring people down...satans music you know because it's amazing...and Satan is the master or lore and music...don't believe me do you .thinking I'm crazy. Go to 1:48 and play it at a 25 speed.. then pause It and play it until the locust alien slash Satan figures appear..your now awake
@@Bridging_the_Political_Divide your afraid to go to 1:48 of the song and do what I ask becuause you dont want to see but its there...its like an alien locust thing they worship...i hate it too there music is amazing trust me but it is what it is
My brother was a drug addict, he died two days before Christmas last year. It had been ten years since the last time I saw him, he left home to make it big in LA. He hadn't called home in almost two years, today we got the cause of death. Pneumonia, from severe autoimmune deficiency. He had AIDS, he never called because he didn't want mom to know. He did a lot of stupid stuff in his life, but there was always the possibility of a better future somewhere down the line. This song and others will always remind me of him, and how there are people out there that just want to belong. Love others, appreciate them, and help them when they're down.
I'm sorry about your brother.Thank you for sharing his story because there are just so so many people struggling & even more ashamed to admit it.Your words are beautiful & I hope everyone reading them will listen.I'm sure your brother found the peace he was longing for & he is proud of you for sending words of encouragement to others and trying to make a difference.Take care🌠
@@tomergdalyahoo3902 you take care too sweetie.Never think for one second that nobody cares & you're all alone.I know there is a lot of bad in the world but there is still a shit ton of good also.xxxxx🧚♀️💗🖤💗🖤
This October will be 10 yrs since I gave up heroin, crack, and misery.. The memories and feelings fade every yr, and is replaced with an actual, fulfilling life (I’m married to an incredible woman, and am blessed with two beautiful children). Anytime I feel down or go back to those experiences, this song hits and I feel healed, which is so strange to say.. especially in the comments to the world of TH-cam.. but music can do so many unimaginable things 🙂↔️
This song helped me through my heroin addiction I’m now 7 years sober and have the woman of my dreams a good job a car my own house and it’s funny how back then I was nothing but a drug addict who didn’t have two nickels to rub together and a bag of tar now here I am thankful that god helped me through along with this song and I wouldn’t change a thing
Good on you my brother. I used to be an addict and my ex girlfriend helped me out. Sucks we broke up but she saved me. Very few people like us get out so let's cherish it and try to help out our brothers and sisters
I think this song is the best piece of music that mankind has ever produced, I'm not very old, but idk, there's just something else about it that no other artist has ever recreated for me, personally.
Every time I hear this song it brings me back to my daughter. We would have long talks about her addiction. Living on the street I never stopped looking for her. I miss her terribly.
What would this band be without John Frusciante? From Give it away, to Under the Bridge, to Soul to Squeeze, to Scar tissue, to Californication, to Can't Stop, to Dani California. The guy's track record is almost second to none.
john frusciante completes the band for some reason, even when dave navarro was there...is still different - it's not RHCP w/o him like limp bizkit w/o west borlan
I've struggled with a heroin addiction for years and this song helped me get through the withdrawals I thank God for giving me strength cause I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
In 1992 my father died and I remember feeling "I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day" so hard - and I linked it with how it bad I felt during the time my father was sick and when he finally died in April 1992. But later it became something I referred to as I became more heavily dependent on sedatives and alcohol. Having to withdraw from benzos, alcohol, and other narcotics was so painful that each time I endured that struggle - that line came to mind. I did it over and over again, until in 2015 I quit drugs and alcohol for good. I still miss my father, as being without him comes to 30 years.
May he rest in paradise, stay strong and never lose motivation i can really relate to that one lyric as my mother passed this year and no i definetly dont wana feel like i did that day.
Oh yea, it feels like music was all I had getting me through my divorce with my children that my ex was keeping from me. All I had at that time was just music plus my Dad. I feel you on that as that was one of the darkest times in my life. I don't know how I got through it, but my Dad never gave up ne fighting in court right along with me. I now have shared joint custody. I pray that you are where you need to be life my Brother! Never Give Up! Much love ❤❤❤❤
I need to tell everyone about my 7th grade history teacher. He’s not dead or anything, and I’m writing this because I saw someone write about theirs. I’m in 8th grade now, but he was absolutely brilliant and he was hilarious and almost said some pretty inappropriate words but caught himself. He loved to play 80’s music. He liked to play RHCP too. It would always be while we did our work, and it helped. Especially with this song and Toto’s Africa. Mr. Hunter was also a great guy and I felt safe in his classroom despite being in a same-sex relationship somewhat openly. He is the only reason why I love history now. Mr. Hunter, if you’re out there, keep listening and keep teaching.
I still come back once and a while. This song is dedicated to all those that are trying to beat addiction. Me being one. I was always trying to run from life. Never facing it. When I play this song I sing it out as if was the one that it was made for. Brings tears to me everytime.
This song is pure magic. Timeless, exposing, moving, and unforgettable. One of the reasons I started playing music. Forever my favorite song. Untouchable. God bless RHCP
when i was 14, this song came out. i remember seeing the video on MTV over lunch at a friends place. while i didn't understand what the meaning was the first time, the second and third time i saw it, i figured it out. one of those moments when art helps you grow. at that age, i was very impressionable and seeing the story of a man who regrets his choices was very powerful. "forgot about my love,.. I gave my life away" really hit me. art speaks to the heart and is a much better drug deterrent than any marketing campaign. thank you rhcp. i never went down that road, but i could have.
+Jim Reilly i know all to well the shit is the devil. I’ve been clean for all most two weeks and and im leaveing for florida to go to rehab to start the rest of my life
Frankly i could never figured out what they were saying when they were singing. "Under the bridge downtown". Once i figured that out. I was like shit, this is about drugs addiction. Regardless if was about drugs or not. Its still a great song.
You guys seriously don’t gotta ask if we’re still here in 2022, we’ll be here for the peppers in 2080, all of your songs are absolutely timeless and my aunt who just passed not too long ago got me into you guys, every time I hear any peppers song I almost cry now, tied to really good memories, Anthony, flea, all of the boys, thank you for your work, it’s very important to me
When you hear the chillipeppers I believe you're aunt still lives on not in person but in spirit but she lives on through you I lost one of my best friends to cancer I always remember him through Pantera like he is there with me
I don't know about you guys but I think after so many years having negative thoughts flowing our minds, we stop feeling any pity for ourselves and learn to ignore all of it to see the few beautiful and happy things in life. You could say my life is the most depressing and boring thing you could ever imagine, but I just don't give a fuck no more. Think about what you still have, even if almost nothing, cuz there are some who would pray to be where you are right now.
Paulo I don't know what you're going through right now but there is always something to be positive about, you can't always focus on the negative. Do something that makes you happy.
Young, black, girl home watching MTV when this masterpiece dropped into my soul! I fell in love instantly, with it and RHCP. Never had a clue what he was talking about up until just now, man, so deep. Now at 52 I have a new found love and much respect for this jam, this band of musical geniuses and for Anthony's accomplishments. One of the greatest songs ever
It's one of those songs that you immediately feel like you're back in the 90s, but beyond the superficial stuff of hairstyles and clothes. It makes me remember family struggles, bonds, and naive joy as a youngster.
Under the Bridge: Written in 1990, Recorded in 1991, Released in 1992; to be enjoyed in any year in the future. Who is still listening to it and enjoying it in 2024?
Mental illness is no joke. I’ve been fighting everyday of my life. I’m only 20 and I’m feeling stuck. I nearly died in December but I’m still here fighting like I always have. I’ll never give up. Please if you see this and you’re struggling, keep fighting I believe in you.
This song hits on so many different levels most people don't understand the real meaning of this song Under the bridge downtown is where I drew some blood I have there in my life I remember being homeless and hopeless on drugs doing a shit under a bridge without a care in the world thank God I am clean now and no longer homeless and hopeless but hearing this song brings back alot of memories and reminds me how far I've come if anyone Is out there down bad on there luck just know I'm rooting for you and there is always light at the end of the tunnel no pun intended lol
Yup, a few of us do, used 4 times since Christmas although on Monday I got a massive big rush then was itching badly for a day and that’s been the case for the past two times and luckily enough I’m really losing my love for it……..just doesn’t make me feel good anymore I rather go out socialise drinking on weekends meeting people and pulling if I’m lucky enough, Choose life 😉

He now says the city of angel Ask yourself how many times you heard this on the radio bumping out of people’s cars How many times you sang along by yourself and with others Even when it’s not playing and you just sing it to yourself.. That is not a coincidence Now it still says angles in written lyrics and in lives and covers , BUT we didn’t learn the city of angels from a cover or a one off live did we?
Thanks for the lyrics. All these years I thought he was singing "under the mistletoe is where I drew some blood..." No wonder that part never made any sense to me. 😂😂
I was supposed to go see these guys last year with my dad. My dad got really sick a week before the concert and had to be taken to the hospital. He nearly didn’t make it. I’m so thankful for his recovery. I hope I get to see them in the future with my dad.

It’s about heroine addiction too though
I’m pretty sure the city is a metaphor for heroine
Brother it's about being addicted to heroin

😂😂😂 it's about heroin the bridge was the place where he used to do drugs
It's not a Fairy tale about friendship
when you seriously take the time to take in all the lyrics and understand it, WOW! the meaning behind it is so incredible

Look at his shirt every time before he starts singing take me to the place I love haha

@@oodeezydeezy6629 Hi ! It's deeper thant that it's about loneliness
bruh its about drugs

Quite simply one of the greatest songs ever written.

I listened to this song during my darkest days. Heroin addiction had me by a hold so strong, I gave my entire life away over and over again. Giving more than I had to give. Thank you RHCP, I couldn't have done it without songs like this one. We do get better.

Me too - and given the recent loss of my husband, its even more poignant.

Keep fighting the fight man. Very few have made it as far as you have. Be proud
It is not if you fall-it is how you get back up!!
what were you doing with a bag of tar?
Every time I hear this song it brings me back to my daughter. We would have long talks about her addiction. Living on the street I never stopped looking for her. I miss her terribly.
Damn, I Hope you have peace in your heart, keep strong!
I hope you get to find her back.
Send you my love brother I can relate 🙏

What would this band be without John Frusciante? From Give it away, to Under the Bridge, to Soul to Squeeze, to Scar tissue, to Californication, to Can't Stop, to Dani California. The guy's track record is almost second to none.
One Hot Minute wasnt a very good album because John wasnt there.

Fuck yeahs bro!
RIP
