A few years back I stopped for an infant (that's right baby in nappies) crawling across the middle of the road. I got out, picked him up and the person behind me starting yelling at me for stopping and holding up traffic. This is not a joke... I was just totally stunned. I took the child to the nearest house and it was the right one. The parents basically scooped it up from me and went back inside without even a thanks... I swear some days, you just wonder if the people around you are even humans...

I hear you. I am 5 foot 3. I just helped a woman push her stalled SUV out of the intersection over to the side of the road, in the middle of a pandemic. She didn’t even say thank you. I’m like do you know how hard it is for somebody who is small to push an SUV? I’m staring directly into the face of a man sitting on a park bench who didn’t lift a finger to help. I thought to myself what is wrong with this world? I am female and I’m left to push a car while here is a man sitting there watching me. But a different man quickly ran across the intersection and jumped in to help. So even though there are countless idiots in this world, there are also countless wonderful people. You know you did the right thing. You helped save this baby’s life. You made the world a better place. Might not have mattered to irresponsible parents, but it mattered to that child. 🙌🏽

In his naive little innocent toddler mind, that was the only danger he conceived. Thank GOD for the rescuers ... that the driver man who stopped recognized that it was a child (not a signpost), and that he was a GOOD man who stopped and rescued the child from soon being hit by a car, as trying to recross the highway, or kidnapped. I kept in with me all day talking and waiting for the police .. I took him to the movies, took him to get something to eat, and bought him some clothes .. when the mother finally showed up later on that night and met me at the theater .. she just walked over there and said "there you are" and pick them up and walked out of the theater .. she didn't even tell me spit!

When I got out I heard voices so wrapped a towel around me and walked out to the living room. There were 5 people standing there with my daughter telling me I was a terrible mom because they found her in the apartment parking lot. She had pulled a chair over and unlocked the slide lock and the handle and walked out. I was a single mom so showered anytime she was asleep. I was so thankful for those folks but was by far not a bad parent.

When I was in preschool if my younger brother was bothering my naps I used to go under the tables or beds just any furniture or items I can hide in so I can sleep. So my parents had it the first time where they almost made an official report for a missing kid. Then they knew better just to check under things including piles of clothes. I felt bad bc Im their first child so it mustve terrified them when it happened. Now Im in my 20s I still did it, not the hiding part but if my sleep is disturbed I'll just get up to find another place to sleep.

If nonparents wonder why parents look tired most of the time, it's because they work hard keeping their child safe and well-cared for.

I did something similar at about 3 years old. My mom had an iron hand & watched us like a hawk, but it only takes a second. Mom was cooking breakfast one morning & offhandedly said that dad wanted eggs but we were out of them. Being a daddy’s girl, I was going to make sure he had what he wanted, so I went out the back door (we weren’t allowed to play in the front yard) & through the gate. I walked down our street & across lanes of traffic to the Piggly Wiggly whereupon I told an employee that my daddy needed some eggs. The manager became involved, recognized me & called my parents (long ago, in simpler times, when businesses knew their customers.) By this time, my parents were in full blown panic & my dad was about to go look for me. I’m sure I got scolded, but it don’t remember it. I also don’t remember the walk or crossing the street. I DO remember that daddy wanted eggs & telling someone at the store that he needed some. 🤪😅

    • @dropkickirish4449
      @dropkickirish4449 ปีที่แล้ว

@Falcon2 And you’re not getting my point. There are no grey areas here. That child’s safety isn’t the community’s responsibility, nor passing stranger’s responsibility, nor the responsibility of whomever manufactured that faulty gate. That responsibility resides with the parent, and the parent alone. She failed at being a good parent.
I’m not saying she’s a bad person, just that she’s a woefully bad parent. I didn’t set the goal post here - or outline the objective scale representing degrees of severity - as to what’s considered to be a bad parent. What’s fair or unfair, and any emotional reasoning applied to this situation, is irrelevant. The sky is blue, the grass is green, and this kid’s mother is a bad parent.
Can that be changed? Why sure it can. But only after exercising self-accountability and accepting that in that moment - and until consistency is established and solidified - she was, and is, a bad parent. Her kid didn’t fall off the see-saw. He walked out into moderately heavy traffic from no small distance as it relates to a toddler. How much time had passed before she realized he was not only out of her sight, and not only outside of the house, and not only outside of the yard, and not only outside of the neighborhood, but walking down a major thoroughfare like Bruce Banner at the end of each episode of “The Incredible Hulk?”
That timer stopped not at her independently arriving at the realization that her child, her blood, that she alone is charged with protecting in this chaotic jungle of insane brutality, was missing. That timer stopped after he was brought home by other people who are not his mother, his protector. You applying a “that’s unfair” assessment not only mitigates her responsibility and accountability, but enables and reinforces this inattentive behavior in a blasé manner. You shouldn’t do that. You should the hold the line, and be steadfast and unwavering in doing so. Again, I’m not calling her a monster who deserves to be put up against the wall for failing in her duties as a primary protector, or that it calling her out as a bad parent fulfills some need of schadenfreude. What I’m saying is that calling her out as a bad parent shouldn’t feel like anything, good or bad. But in applying those emotionally-based reasonings, all that is achieved is further degradation to the responsibility inherently applied to being a parent.
Or in other words, the inverse of this situation is that good parents don’t slip up to this degree of severity. But tomorrow’s a new day, and she’s the only one at the fork in the road who can decide which path she’ll take moving forward. Good or bad, she’ll be held, and should be held, accountable as everyone else. The alternative of giving her a pass is the same precedent that has been set upon in the last few decades which has sent our world down this slippery slope of zero accountability with no bottom in sight.

Funny how inititially I'm thinking, "How can parents be so clueless letting their young child wander down the streets like that?" But then I gotta remember to keep my mouth shut because I once pulled a stunt like this when I was 4 or 5 years old. 😂😅 I had a little red tricycle and I was mad that my dad and sister was walking to the store which was several blocks away and my mom told me no that I couldn't go with them. My dad said no. They were only going to make a fast trip but I really wanted to go. My mom went into her room and my other siblings were probably playing in theirs so I watched my dad and sis leave through the sliding doors and through my tears I decided that I would follow them. I got on my tricycle and waited till they were far enough to not see me and peddled as fast as my trike would take me. They went about 3 blocks without noticing and cars drove by. And I kinda remember big trucks and going through a traffic light. And calling out to them. After about 30 minutes which seemed much longer they spotted me (I think some cars were honking and pointing at me) and they turned around shocked and scared that I was following them.
They took me back home scolding me the whole way and needless to say my mom gave me a much deserved spanking and I never did that again!!
So yeah it happens. 😰 lol so glad nothing bad happened.

*Drug addictions, and thought addictions are closely related on a neurological level.* Some people are more beholden to the ancient part of the brain (Meso Limbic System/emotional) rather than someone that reasons using the modern part (Frontal Cortex/rational).
Imagine the euphoria experienced by the average person for believing they won a million dollars on a scratch off ticket (it could be a joke ticket yet as long as they believe). Now imagine someone having the same sensations, but being convinced it's a paranormal contact for believing John 3:16.
We evolved to seek pleasure (eating/reproduction), and avoid getting killed (tiger in the grass/competing neighbor/harsh enviroment). With our increased cognitive abilities we made up other reasons for pleasure, and survival beyond basic necessity. The Dopamine Reward System over time bridges gaps in pathways in order to form habits in order to repeat behaviors, and or thoughts. The often cited testimony of getting off an addiction thanks to a God is just a placebo replacement due to the power of the mind (an AA participant I heard of chose to worship the radiator in his room instead of an higher power, and became sober).
"The second system, known as the mesolimbic system, has its cell bodies in the ventral tegmental area, which is medial to the substantia nigra. It projects to several parts of the limbic system, including the nucleus accumbens and ventral portions of the striatum, amygdala, and hippocampus, as well as prefrontal cortex. *This system has been linked to reward-related behavior (Berridge and Kringelbach, 2015). Dopamine levels in the nucleus accumbens increase in response to both natural reinforcers (such as food, drink, and sex) and drugs of abuse (such as amphetamine and cocaine). Additionally, in humans, activity in this region increases in response to more abstract rewards, such as money."*
Marie T. Banich/Rebecca J. Compton, Cognitive Neuroscience, Section: Subsystems, pp. 2/3
*"Dopamine, in fact, is critical in association learning and the reward system of the brain that Skinner discovered through his process of operant conditioning, whereby any behavior that is reinforced tends to be repeated. A reinforcement is, by definition, something that is rewarding to the organism; that is to say, it makes the brain direct the body to repeat the behavior in order to get another positive reward.* ...The connection between dopamine and belief was established by experiments conducted by Peter Brugger and his colleague Christine Mohr at the University of Bristol in England. *Exploring the neurochemistry of superstition, magical thinking, and belief in the paranormal, Brugger and Mohr found that people with high levels of dopamine are more likely to find significance in coincidences and pick out meaning and patterns where there are none."*

Inclination toward religious behavior and motivation has been associated with a polymorphism on the dopamine receptor gene DRD4 (Comings, Gonzales, Saucier, Johnson, & MacMurray, 2000;Sasaki et al., 2013). Acquired disorders of dopamine physiology also show links to religious behaviors."*

*"Dopamine In schizophrenia (SCZ), there is evidence that very high levels of dopamine in the limbic system play a major role in emergence of hallucinations and delusions. Antipsychotic medications, which block central dopamine activity, alleviate the hallucinations of psychosis. Drugs with strong dopaminergic effect, such as L-dopa, methylphenidate, bromocriptine, pramipexole and piribedil, may induce hallucinations. D-amphetamine, a direct dopamine agonist, may also induce psychosis and hallucinations."*

"Tibetan mystics have long practiced a method to create sentient beings (Tulpas) from the power of concentrated thought."
Note: These (Tulpas) are not sentient beings, but a manifestation of the subconscious mind through neural plasticity via neurochemical imbalancing inducing meditation. In other words it's having a dream state while awake, and interacting with a character that's made up of one's own preformed thoughts (building blocks of ideas/concepts that are below conscious awareness) which gives the illusion of sentience. In simpler words it's self induced schizophrenia due to stresses (psychological/physical/environmental) where neurochemical traffic gets rerouted causing hallucinations to any of the five senses, also including involuntary movement, and distorted speech (glossolalia).

Okay, I'm not a parent, but even I know it literally only takes a second for a kid to slip out of sight. You can all sit around and pretend you're the perfect parents, but life happens and some kids are just determined to escape, no matter how diligent the parents may be. (I've seen it first hand with my one friend's mischievous kid who will do anything in his power to try to leave the house. They've pretty much had to rig all the doors to stop him.)
My mom was also a great mother, but one day I got the fantastic idea when I was 3 to go visit my mom's friend who lived across a huge field and through the wooded back area. She was busy making me and my brother supper. I walked myself all the way there and let myself in, and thought nothing of it. My mom was already out looking for me, having to stop making supper while wrangling another 4 year-old as a single mom. There's kids out there who are legit not clothed, fed, loved, looked after, sexually and physically abused, and abandoned - so please stop being awful to moms who are doing their best, but make mistakes.
