Miss Kansas calls out her abuser on stage: "My abuser is here today"

- Before Alexis Smith was crowned Miss Kansas in June, she informed audience members what she envisioned her message would be if she were named the 2024 titleholder.
A video clip of what Smith said is now going viral after it was shared on the Miss Kansas Organization's social media pages on July 12 and has picked up over 200,000 views on Instagram.
"My vision as the next Miss Kansas is to eliminate unhealthy and abusive relationships," Smith said, before adding, "Matter of fact, some of you out in this audience saw me very emotional because my abuser is here today, but that's not going to stop me from being on this Miss Kansas stage and from representing as the next Miss Kansas because I and my community deserve healthy relationships. We deserve a domestic, free life. Thank you."
The stone silence when she said that her abuser was there...the audience was probably looking around like, 'Who we gotta fight?!'

LEAVING THE DOORS WIDE OPEN FOR HIM TO CARRY ON.
On that stage, looking down upon her abuser.. she undoubtedly took back her power from him. Glad she's taking back her power and called him out. But she needs to be careful, if he's bold enough to repeatedly keep showing up to her pageants after they've broken things off, he'll surely escalate. Abusers hate being called out for their abuse, now that she's "publicly humiliated" him, there's no telling how much further off the rails he'll go.
I don’t think she should have claimed him (“my abuser”). In a way, that’s still giving him power.
Should have ignored him. Abusers want to be seen and acknowledged. He's not publicly humiliated if no one knew who he was
Was just going to say that, as for saying “My abuser” there is no other way to say it. You can stand it on its head and it will still come out as “my abuser”

Had a friend that didn’t quite believe me until they saw me at an outdoor concert and saw that everywhere I would go stand, the old and tall abuser would come over and stand right in front of me so I couldn’t see. Even when I was married and just visiting my hometown, he blocked my way back to my seat at a CHURCH Christmas service. To let the abuser know they no longer have power in their lives. That the fear is gone. So often the abuser gets to be shielded and protected by family and takes no accountability for their actions. The abuser gets to revel in their victim's fear and trauma that they caused. They are confident that they will never be called out. What a genius way of guaranteeing a win,,You draw in the crowd and judges by issuing a statement of ,,,My abuser is here somewhere in this crowd of 10 thousand people,,But I won't actually point him out,,So no one called out,,,Then the judges are almost locked in to making you the winner least there be riots if they don't,,,She was asked later by news reporters,,Who this person was,,She declined to give name,,,,,,,,,,,,She would make an excellent politician,,,
I'm super proud of you you are setting perfect examples for everyone. Thank you for standing up. Congratulations on winning you deserve every thing you need.
