    poor guy -- more comments on lighting than on excellent content. Linus, it was an informative video. I had already educated myself about this, but I really appreciate your making these videos. it saves me from having to explain to others. I just send them your video link.

      @rexodexo56 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sir, may I ask how old you are?
      I'm just curious, as I rarely see as good comments as yours on TH-cam and you also don't see older people in the comments section often.

    • @BartSchuck
      @BartSchuck 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +TreeSquared3 I'm in my 60s. I worked in IT for nearly 2 decades, have been a geek for 4 decades. now retired but still read extensively. I'm typically asked by people as young as 20-something all the way up to my peers regarding tech purchases, PC & Android issues and apps, and more.

    • @rexodexo56
      @rexodexo56 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Bart Schuck Thanks for the quick and detailed reply!
      I'm only 17 myself, but it's nice to know that older generations are also present on TH-cam ^^

    • @BartSchuck
      @BartSchuck 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      TreeSquared3 keep learning. Keep an active, inquisitive, healthy mind. It will serve you well for decades. I've seen what happens to men my age that get mentally lazy. I don't watch tv & don't play computer games. Mind wasters!

      +Bart Schuck Thanks for your advice!
      I very rarely watch TV nowadays, as I also think its a waste of time. Well, with video games you at least have social contact and you also have to use your brain- depending on the game

    Linus, ever since i first saw you use an ssd and saw how fast it was, i wanted to get ahold of a few for my PCs.
    I have done that and they are WICKED FAST! Each of my 3 have a different 240gb ssd used only for windows and a few programs.
    I cannot thank you enough for sharing your knowlege, and now when i start up my computer, it is only seconds before i get to the logon screen
    You and your team are my favourite Canadians and you need to keep making videos.

    Dual purpose slots would be extremely useful! Very smart of them. Honestly, whenever there is an innovation that makes prior technology incompatible, it takes so much longer for the new innovation to be adopted. It drives me crazy. Here is hoping Samsung can have a full sized SD card slot that would be compatible with UFS cards via adapter.

    It's interresting how nobody ever talks about the error rate & reliabillity of small flash storage devices. They often have very few backup sectors and very few error correction built in. And when they fail, unlike HDDs they usually fail completely, and all datas are lost, instant of just a few sectors.

      Netbooks are still very useful, they are cheap, and some are fairly decent. For example, I have a Lenovo S21e, which I mainly use for recording lectures, and taking notes.
      In NY, I am less likely to get robbed for a $125 netbook, and with improvements in IPC, the modern bottom of the barrel CPUs, still perform at about the level of the Intel core 2 duo P8400.
      You won't be editing video, or gaming on one, but if you need something that is cheap, and will handle Microsoft office just fine, then a netbook is decent.
      Best of all, since they are passively cooled, and and produce very little heat, you can even have them completely closed while at full CPU load inside of a laptop bag, and only hit around 65C CPU temperature, thus I can have adobe audition recording the lecture while I take notes on Microsoft word, have that sync to google drive, and then at the end, start the adaptive noise reduction filter, and have closing the lid not put it into standby.

    when UFS becomes mainstream i could honestly see desktop PC's using this as a storage option. now if only battery tech was moving forward at the same rate...

    Different electrical interfaces in about the same socket format, good to know...and disorienting when the card said U1...U3 in the first place. Is it the filesystem too as it seems? Can't wait to lose host PC's need to ever fail back to exFAT etc. I mean, there's something to be said for having an UFS compatible card reader as well as the SDHC at this point, ne?

    So, it is the same size as microSD, will fit in microSD slot but won't work, requiring a new system with a new slot. That is gonna cause lots of problems and lots of "it doesn't work" returns. You really didn't think this through, Samsung.

  • @VictorAlicea
    @VictorAlicea 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    This would make the Microsoft Surface microSD slot more desirable, if a future version would have UFS.

      FireAce Demen Think you're missing the point here chap. The video is about UFS memory and it's very much worth noting that most new phones come with UFS built in.

    • @amshermansen

      Whether or not they already use UFS internally is completely irrelevant.

    • @BigHumz155

      Mansen It just isn't irrelevant. The video is about UFS memory, a standard used as internal memory too.

    need to make a mechanical 2.5 inch drive with a SATA expander on it and 2 of these UFS cards in it, so that on most modern laptops,even though you cant have 2 physical drives, unles you remove the optical drive, you can still have a boot SSD and the storage of a mechanical hard dirve

    • @denvera1g1
      @denvera1g1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      sort of like the WD black ^2 but instead of 2 physical drives that make up a single expanded drive with partitions seperating the SSD from RPM, it would show as 2 or more physical drives

    I don't know if the power efficiency matters that much. When taking selfies and video, I'm pretty sure the screen and camera take waaaaaay more power than a flash-based IO device.

  • @davegtar

    Despite having constant lighting and the same camera set up, you'd think they would create a colour correction preset................. same with the audio, it's all over the place!

    I wonder what would happen if you got these ufs cards, and crammed lots of them into an SSD sized box, and then set them up as a RAID (can't remember which number) and then added a bunch of sata connection ports to the side of the box, would we have our 20TB storage and extremely fast R/W speeds?

  • @Lukenallen8
    @Lukenallen8 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    first USB gets changes with type c, now the most accepted storage medium is being replaced? I wish they would have made it the same dimensions as micro SD so that itll fit in sdcard adapters and your existing electronics.... should take about 10years until it takes over like micro USB type B vs mini b and micro SD vs whatever that other standard was...

    • @ripp102
      @ripp102 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are the same fit, but it's another tech altogether. They are not compatible and it would be stupid to do soo.
      If you ask me why? the answer is performance and you reduce the cost of developing a controller that accept both.
      Samsung decided to do that with the note 7, i but that cost a lot.

    • @Lukenallen8
      @Lukenallen8 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      joker102 im aware of that however they could have played the pins out and made them compatible with existing slots instead of doing what Samsung is doing, I know this would cause confusion with which card is which but a small print could solve that

    • @amshermansen
      @amshermansen 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily possible to do...

    • @Lukenallen8
      @Lukenallen8 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mansen I'm aware if that, there's completely different requirements for the contact pins, I just wish more development was done on micro SD to minimise the bottleneck of the micro SD standard and to keep backwards compatibility with existing devices. However that's more of a dream as I know that's not exactly possible using the current specifications of micro SD

    • @Goodmanperson55
      @Goodmanperson55 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Luke Nallen new standards develop because the bottleneck is realized to be inherent within the old standard itself. Remember when IDE was replaced by SATA?
