I’m a guitar player in bands for 40 years and my favorite instrument is the Hammond B3. Our keyboardist died recently but he was the best musician in the band…..I miss my brother Pat
When I was kid in the 1980’s I remember seeing the Casio DG-20 in sales Catalogs for electronic stores and toy stores. I haven’t seen one since then until the thumbnail of this video. Very cool.
The kalimba actually does sound super peacefull. I just started learning zelda's lullaby today on piano, and the kalimba sounds like it would sound amazing for that song...
Hi Davie, finally after 3 years of watching your channel I saved much money to buy a bass, before i've got 2 guitars (classical and electrical), but I preffer bass now! I'm so happy that your content convinced me to get this beautiful instrument. I need a lot of prcatice, but I see potential in it. Stay funky bro *slap*
I have a fascination of ancient instruments like shamanic drums, it may just have one playable tone, but they're strummed to resonate at very low frequencies reminiscent of your heartbeats as we can hear them with our own ears and how we feel them. And then there's this instrument called a "bowed harp" which is very drone based in its' sound. (:
I was stuck in the TH-cam rabbit hole, instead of sleeping. You playing these pretty instruments really helped me to unwind. Thanks for the great video. Stay funky bro.
I have a whole studio of thrift-store found musical equipment, but one of my personal favorites has to be the Suzuki Omnichord 200m I found in the kid's toys section for $2.99 in mint condition (still had the factory protective film on the touch sensor).
I need a extended version of that kalimba song, I have trouble trying to sleep because of thoughts and music helps me forget them. So please make extended version :]
You asked for it : My favorite instrument is the trumpet ! But I love to listen to you playing your best funky bass lines, and the impossible ones with CharlesBerthoud and others, also your challenges are fun to watch ! Thanks !
I had one in the 90's and even used it as an occasional bass or for special needs like a string pad or to trigger sequences (attached via midi with my "ancient" PC and my Roland D-110) in gigs! (obviously not in rock gigs but with a NeoFolk mostly acoustic group). The internal sounds where mostly useless but it had a mode that sent a different channel for each string and with my multichannel Synth it was VERY workable. (no glitches at all but also no velocity info... limited use but in some moments it saved the day and simplified my setup).
These instruments are not just weird, they are relaxing too. You will become very tired if you play a note from one of these. These should be used care.... 😴
Really wanna try out that Casio digital guitar. Might be a gimmick but still looks fun to mess around with. I’ve wanted one ever since I saw SamuraiGuitarist’s video on it
Haha I have the Casio DG-20 as well, bought it like 15 years ago during my Flight of the Conchords phase. And bought that same stylophone a couple years later!
Young fellow, I own synthesizers that are older than you... and I remember trying out the Casio DG20 when it was new... I also had a shot of the Casio PG380 which is a MUCH more interesting take on guitar-to-MIDI/guitar synthesis, as it has a "Phase Distortion" synth engine built in. Try get a hold of one.
My step father gave one to my little brother 20 years ago. Always thought it was both cool and weird and was always interested to hear someone actually play it.
I actually bought a Kalimba when I was hospitalised. I had wanted to learn it for so long, what better time than now right? The melodic tunes are so soothing! Do play more using the kalimba too!
I've seen the Casio DG-20 before. It was used in the TV show "Flight of The Conchords" by Bret McKenzie. I think the song was called "Boom." Funny show by the way.
The weirdest is one that almost nobody knows about. It looks like a guitar but it's missing strings. The fretboard is way too long, and it's tuned way too low. Only Pros can even figure out how to get sounds out of one. Even wierder it's named after a fish
my favorite instrument is the electric guitar. I'm in a high school rock band, and I look at the solo guitarist with envy. I'm in charge of the rhythm.

Every time I hear a shamisen it makes me think of the Yoshida Brothers, a great duo who do a combination of traditional and Western-influenced shamisen stuff.
Out of these my favorite is the hand pan (and that one you showed, they basically sound the same) and the shamisen but my absolute favorite instrument is the Celtic harp, it gives me a nostalgic feeling idk
What Davie needs in his collection of instruments are a waterphone, xendrum, a Chapman Stick (or Warr Guitar), or an Earthhorn. LOL! Great to see a stylus synth in the mixture.
No joke, my local thrift store had one of these a couple years back for 25 bucks. Perfect shell and everything. Just no strings. I thought it was just for guitar hero

There's also MISS DIGITAL GUITAR.. It has no strings but has a TOUCHPAD CONTROLLER instead. And it sounds like these old pixel games themes/soundtracks.

Good job as always, brilliant!...really liked the shout-out to Samurai Guitarist (he's from Winterpeg!). I've been a dedicated follower of his since seeing his version of the BÖC classic "Don't Fear The Reaper" - each instrument played on a separate iPad and all overdubbed with video editing to make a perfect version of the song (there's even a Cowbell iPad 'cause the producer always demands MORE COWBELL!). Another brilliant video (which I found on TwistedSifter's Shirk Report (another Internet genius-type)). Go Canada! 💖 🇨🇦
I've seen a kalimba before, which either derived from music boxes or vice versa. A tongue drum I've seen on youtube, might have even been one of your videos. The Cylophone is just a tone generator (primitive synthesizer) driven by a varistor where each circuit connection produces a different frequency. The DG-20 I actually had. It's not meant to be played the way a guitar would, it's just a synthesizer actuated by rubber strings. The Shamisen is somewhat new to me, but it's not especially different from a sanxian, both having a sound roughly similar to a banjo. The Potty Piano is just a small, rude variation on the step piano used in the movie Big. So really, no, nothing I haven't seen before, to one degree or another.
