    • @HonkHonkler
      @HonkHonkler 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It's not accurate, but it's a Disney animated film for children, so it doesn't matter. The ACTUAL tales in Greek Mythology are not something for 5 years old to be learning yet. They're fucking cool, but not things 5 year olds need to know at their age.

      Considering she talks down to him a little it does at least sound like she’s older, but the question is by how much. Since she appears in the episode of the show “The Anatolian Amphora” and appears to be a high school contemporary of Herc’s, the “age gap” may be more of an experience gap.

    The best part of the movie was Meg, but the way they made Hades a bad guy in this was so infuriating because he's basically the least problematic god out of all of them, and one of the only gods that *didn't* participate in a takeover of Olympus against Zeus in Greek Mythology. That's not even the least of how inaccurate it is when looking at Greek mythology, but if I talked about everything I'd get into ranting and I don't really feel like typing out a rant rn

    • @JuanitoEsBonito
      @JuanitoEsBonito 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      I think it was just disneys strategy yknow they gotta make someone bad and given the fact that it's mainly a child audience picking the guy associated with death and the underworld was the first choice.

    • @maem7462
      @maem7462 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JuanitoEsBonito I think that was partly the choice. I always think Hades already had a bad representation b4 this bc some ppl were like he’s the God of the underworld and works with dead souls he must kill ppl which isn’t true. Also maybe it was a bit of some Catholic and Christian ppl learning abt Hades being God of the underworld and they likely thought of the underworld that’s under ppl and associated that with Hell and thereby associated Hades as being similar to the devil. I think k with Zeus they were like oh he’s in the sky so it must be like heaven so they praised him when Zeus doesn’t deserve the praise he gets

    I love your energy, you’re awesome! And Meg is definitely a hottie!
    Unrelated: anyone notice the side who was singed in the fire always looks that way the whole movie. Like, he could have bathed in a river or something 😂

    Everyone talking about how they made Hades a villain when he's not, let's talk about Hera and how she was the one who tried to kill Hercules.

    As a major fan of Classical Mythology, this film and I have such a love-hate relationship. They have enough obscure references that it is obvious they did the research, but so many glaring flaws that it is also clear they didn't care to be accurate. For the best, I suppose, the actual myth of Hercules is FAR from family oriented (he got his first murder in as a kid when he smashed his lute over his music teacher's head, for starters... not counting the multiple rapes, pillages, beating his own wife and kids to death, multiple sex partners of both main genders that they were *not* putting in a 90s film, etc)

      If it makes you feel any better, I’m out here and I speak Greek and Latin because of this movie. I went on two tours of Greece and my professors would occasionally ask me for help remembering stuff. The movie’s influence was good for something.

      Well duh. Seems obvious they'd need to deliberately change the details what with the murder and rape rampant in the actual mythology..

    4:12 lol this is something that I always questioned. If Hercules is so strong, how in the world did a mortal throw that dice so hard that it was able to toss him in the air and make him hit a stone piller hard enough to make it fall. It's as if one of those kid is also a "god". Lol I might just be thinking to much 😅

    Hercules' singing voice was actually provided by Roger Bart. It was originally supposed to be Josh Keaton, the speaking voice of teenage Hercules but they recorded over it with Roger Bart

    I didn't love this movie when it first came out. Always a Aladdin guy myself. But especially now with the lack of male Disney leads in animation you sometimes gotta revisit those older movies to get good representation when you have none currently.
    I personally don't love Meg, but I do like her song. Again Jasmine was where it was at for me.
    Best song is I can go the distance for me. It's a banger. I won't say i'm in love is very catchy though
