  • As wet weather drives Michael back inside, he gets to work removing yet more render from the internal walls and figuring out how the walls and floors are constructed. He does get to venture outside to the front of the house again, revealing a beautiful small stone window in the process!

    Hey guys, I’m starting to see the real potential as the layers are being peeled off. All this hard work is going to pay off because eventually this will be a spectacular comfy home . Best wishes always, Moody 😎

    I think building a thicker wall under the windows is a good idea maybe a window seat !😊

    The stone walls you worked on earlier look as if they are drying out. Good to take time off and live instead of constant work.

    It's great to see the progress your making and thanks for all the great videos, we never miss a single one. You must be so looking forward to pointing those walls, I pointed the garage once and that was brickwork, somehow I have never got around to doing anymore. Stay positive guys it's going to be a great house when it's done.

    The good thing is that you're seeing the damp up close in the rain. It gives you a better idea of what you're up against.👍

    Seeing how thick the downstairs walls are, I'm surprised at how thin it is under the windows. I would have thought that it would be as thick as the rest of the upstairs, with nice deep windowsills.👍

      Yeah! It is strange but very common!! But I think we'll build them out 1) better insulation and 2) nice features! 😊

    Unfortunately the stone pedreiros used cement wood everywhere from 60’s onwards they did not know about the necessity for the buildings to breathe and the housed became very humid and cold.

      It's all a learning process 😊 I often joke someone will come along and add render to it again in years to come! 😅

    Surely you've been through a cramping period, when you started all the chisel work? It makes me think of the first few weeks of having to milk two cows twice a day as a teenager. I used to dread it a before long it was over.😂👍

    Did you noticed there was hardly any dust while you were working on the walls?

  • @adobo6905

    In winter all outside facing stone walls will become damp. Humidity will travel from outside walls surfaces to inside. It is difficult for space heating to fight the dampness of the walls. Good luck.

    We've got the same problems with some rotten floor boards in our renovation. Have you found anywhere to source reclaimed boards or are you intending to replace with new timber?

    • @PortugalonaPostcard
      @PortugalonaPostcard  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We'll definitely try to use reclaimed but haven't found a source yet... I keep my eyes peeled on OLX! We are just getting a quote for new floor joists too. Whereabouts are you?
