I love how you color your portraits because it's pastel but with a wide range of values! But, please check your sponsor because they currently have issues and controversies. I hope you'll look into it 😊
I loved what you said about not worrying so much about color matching. Personally, I like to really limit my palette of colored pencils (just grabbing a handful), that way I don't always have the right colors but can focus on values and line work. Also, your nails were so so pretty here, that polish is to die for!!
with color a rule of thumb is that as long as it works in black & white you can use any color you want! Value gives all the info needed, color is just the atmosphere
Beautiful. I love how you've captured the warmth in the left side of the face. You can really see the light there despite that side in shadow, the warmth of the skin is really shining through
One of the best examples I've ever heard on explaining the importance of value over hue. Your videos are so entertaining and informative. Keep up the great work!
You are very skilled and you have plenty to offer in terms of creating art videos on youtube. I mean, have you seen a lot of the art on here? LOL. I really like hearing your thoughts on which direction to hatch and how you do shape design. That was the first thing I noticed about your colored pencil portraits, and it even shows up in your gouache paintings I think. It's a very unique aspect of your art. Great video!
This is exactly the kind of content I've been looking for. I got off TH-cam for a while because I felt that artists were gate keeping, and putting other artists down, but you have such a beautiful channel, and such a lovely personality. Your portraits are clearly full of love and appreciation, and you helped me to remember some of the parts of art that I love and haven't focused on lately. Enjoying the beauty of unique features and thinking how fun it is play with those features. Thank you,
As somebody who's quite impatient and loves to go straight in with intense dark colours and contrasting shadows, seeing you only taking that step righhht at the end of this video was quite inspiring- first gently mapping out every little shape and colour, and then going in. Gotta try it, thanks💛
Brilliant work! I'm ready to watch for a long time how you insist colors and make strokes 😍 Your video really helped me learn a lot about drawing with pencils. I also really like your drawing style)
I’d be very interested in seeing a video about making art with a limited palette based on values. Also thanks for this video, it’s exceptionally good content for TH-cam and very appreciated for the art tips.
Hiii, i love ur art band ur art style especially this one and i myself am a beginner artist like i have just been drawing for like a year and a half and i am very scared to add color to my. I am actually always get confused with alot of colors so can u make a video about **How to choose colors for portraits** And also could u tell some good quality but yk not that expensive colored pencils cuz prismacolors in inr is really expensive even the 12 colors one its literally 2k+
This video is absolutely amazing!! It is exactly what I was looking for, because I struggle with colored pencils. Thank you so much for creating this! I watched a similar colored pencil portrait video by Chris Hong, but unfortunately it was a short, and I nearly drove myself crazy trying to follow along. So, thank you thank you!! You are so very talented!!
I adore your use of color! I've really been into art with similar color usage so this hits the spot perfectly.. also reminds me a bit of Chris Hong! You're a big inspo for me in a difficult time
This was such a helpful video thank you for all the tips. I do not draw often I know I have it in me it’s been years I’ve taken many art courses anyway I want to make portrait of our family for my husband for Christmas. So studying up
Very helpful that you have gone to the trouble of making this video tutorial. Reading a book on coloured pencils is not the same as having someone walk you through it. I feel after watching this the next step is very much to practice. Blending seems to be the hardest challenge. But I will see in my next portrait if I am getting better at slowing it down and layering.
im trying to learn and this is super helpful, especially since you do it real time AND we can see the reference. I was looking for a video like this, would you consider making more of them? kinda like follow-along pencil tutorials
I don’t have access to col-erase, but have noticed my watercolor pencils are mostly erasable. I always use a colorful sketch and it’s been fine. At least worth a shot to try it! I also, for some reason prefer using watercolor colored pencils even without adding water. Maybe it prevents me from going too vibrant too early lol
Love the video! I switch between calling them pencil crayons and colored pencils, lol. Also, if you ever decide to come out with a zine or art book, know that I will definitely be in line to purchase it! 😊
Hi! This is incredible thank you for sharing your knowledge it really helps me realise what I need to work on! and yes if you have time a video where you use just primary colours for a pencil portrait would be amazing!
Great choice of reference photo. It might be challenging for me. Haha, I'm not good with faces. But it's delightful to see your drawing painting, colour pencil painting. 😊😊❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Drawing teeth freaks me out lol I'll try to follow your advice about it and also I'll try to not be as distracted by color picking and focus more on the values :) as always, thank you!! I feel like since I follow your channel I've improved a lot ❤
you explained this so well!! and it’s so relaxing to listen and watch you draw 💛💛 where did you find the reference photo? i want to colour along but i can’t find it anywhere 😭
Really cool to see your process with this! We just dropped the same video within an hour of each other haha! Your style is amazing and it's interesting to see how you use colour. You manage to keep it so soft but maintaining the emotion in the portrait, a real talent!
Hey! Thank you so much! I discovered you on Instagram and immediately loved your work. I'm so happy to see that you have a TH-cam channel too 😄 I'm off to watch your video now!
btw I love the color of your nails ! This was so helpful. I've been really wanting to use colored pencils as a medium with portraits and just a fun way to implement because I feel like colored pencils is associated with kids & school.
Thank you!! I also avoided colored pencils for years, maybe subconsciously because of the association with school haha! I am so glad I gave them another try as an adult though, because they have SO much potential. I hope you enjoy experimenting with them! 😄
thank u so much for this my prismacolor pencils have been sitting around for like 6 years already and its barely USED coz I'm actually scared to use it
If I'm really gonna be honest, this didn't really help with nothing. You just kinda did a draw with me, and for someone like me who couldn't even see what you were drawing half way just kinda annoyed me so please next time when starting to draw please use like a pencil

my pencils looking at me: 'this could be us, but you scared...'
😂
Me too,me too. But we must get out of our comfort zone ❤

Agreed! Thanks so much for watching! 💖
Great video! I actually didn't realize it's only Canadians who call coloured pencils pencil crayons lol
Thank you! ❤️ I tried so hard not to call them pencil crayons in this video haha
Us British do too 😅
Jamaicans too
I know!
Youre basically saying pencils 2 as crayons is the word for pencil in French and very similar in Romanian
It's always exciting to see those darker values get layered on, so cool, the final portrait just shines. I learn something new in every video! 🔥🔥🔥
Ah thank you so much!! 🙌
Beautiful. I love how you've captured the warmth in the left side of the face. You can really see the light there despite that side in shadow, the warmth of the skin is really shining through
Two videos in one week?! You've been crushing it! ✨
Thank you so much!! 💖💖
One of the best examples I've ever heard on explaining the importance of value over hue. Your videos are so entertaining and informative. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I'm planning on doing similar videos with other mediums 😄

In case anyone is interested, the artgear guy explained this myth of “oil” and “wax based”.

Love it!!!!❤❤❤
Thank you Lyssa! ❤️

Depending on the portrait, it takes me anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour :)

Thank you!
Hi i got a question abt the sponsor, do they do online sessions or not and whether or not they are available in india?😅

I think my color pencils are made out of pure plastic, they're so weird
Oh no! 😅 That does sound weird!!
