Scythe - Starfield Razorleaf Light Fighter Redesign Fastest Engines THE BEST Mantis Ship Build Guide

- Greetings, Captains! In my latest Starfield ship building guide, I show you how to turn the Razorleaf into the Scythe. A true redesign of the Razorleaf, this ship is purpose-built for combat and utilizes the fastest engines available in the game. Pair the incredible speed with the same weapons loadout used for the Basilisk, the Scythe may be the most powerful ship in the Settled Systems.
The Scythe is so much fun to fly, I went to Serpentis and in 45 minutes I had gained 4 levels. Footage included! The Zealots got FARMED!
Due to the engine's lack of payload lifting ability, this build has a limited cargo capacity, but still useful at nearly 1,300. My next build, the Helion, takes that into consideration and trades just a bit of speed for double the cargo capacity.

DUDE!!! Love your builds. What's more, I appreciate you walking us through the builds, the combat flight scenes, taking us inside your creations. Excellent work! Master Class!!
Thank you kindly, appreciate the support!
The old Razorleaf looked slow and goofy. This version looks fast and menacing... just the kind of ship you'd expect to strike fear in the hearts of pirates the galaxy over. Nicely done.
I couldn’t have said any of that better myself.
Thank you very much for watching, and I hope you’ll stick around for more!
I built this but used the Deimos Ares bridge, so I would have all my crew spaces. Then for the habs I used all in one berths. What a great ship!!
Enjoy! The main reason for cockpit choice was to stay within 40m length, so that the ship could utilize small landing zones on planets. It was also cool to match it with the original Razorleaf.
Thanks for watching!
We must have been on the same wavelength recently, Wizard. I just built a small gunship using the same engines. Same shield, too. Also with just two hab units. With the same weapons I use on large ships. And I also came to the conclusion that it is the most powerful ship I've built. The speed and responsiveness of such a small ship just makes it so effective in a fight. I almost feel like I need another difficulty level to justify using it. All I had for crew was Amelia, and I honestly felt like she was plenty. I also just picked up the Razorleaf on this NG+....I probably have room in my hanger for another stupidly powerful little ship.
We must have great minds then. I’ve heard they think alike!
This was my first small ship and MAN is it fun!
The next one is small too, just slightly slower but with a lot more cargo. A fighter that can be used to explore too.
Alright, it's decription time
Basilisk
"Originally meant as an escort ship for the UC Vigilance, the Basilisk, called the Inferno-class light destroyer internally, is designed to demolish ships of its size and bigger; at one point the UC Navy claimed that, given enough time and a ballistic cannon, particle beam weapon and missile loadout, it can break apart an asteroid of the same size as the one that wiped out all the dinosaurs on Earth billions of years ago. Legend has it, that one of the UC Navy-licenced reproduction ships (that MUST be sold under the Basilisk name, else they risk legal action by the UC government) that are bound for civilian sale has a Star vs The Forces of Evil porn stash tucked away in the computer core's SSD units, and whoever buys a Basilisk may well be in possession of millions, if not billions of credits worth of antique digital contraband"
Bristleback
"A multirole, but primarily heavy cargo ship designed to take on any amount of payload imaginable, the Bristleback is the ship you need when the cargo you wanna haul is way more than your old ship can handle. With an all particle beam loadout, the Bristleback can hold on its own against all the enemies that you can find, and its expansive cargo capacity can contain all their loot as well. The cargo units however, are designed so poorly that you would have to resort to chopping off the cowlings if it meant loading and unloading the cargo boxes themselves"
Aetos and Aetos II
"Meant as a do-it-all medium fighter that can kill all that stands in its way, the Aetos series is designed as an anti-pirate ship, and for the Aetos II, a multipurpose fighter emphasizing combat; which is why both the Aetos, and its more powerful sibling, the Aetos II, has been a staple of space policemen, Freestar Rangers, and particularly independent pilots alike. One pilot even said that it can easily, and reliably destroy all the spacers he's ever encoutered, as well as knocking out the Spacer Scavenger Blattodea with little effort"
Peregrine
"An explorer that can take on even the biggest of ships, the Peregrine is an adaptable fighter that can, and has fought the bloodiest of battles. With an all particle beam loadout and reliable armor, the Peregrine will be your best friend when it comes to ship-to-ship combat. Recently, however, the comparisons between it and the formidable Aetos series has brought both ships' pros and cons to light, with the Peregrine offering better hull durability and cargo space, while the Aetoses are serious, no joke ships, designed with versatility in mind as well but with a bias towards combat and agility, essentially sacrificing cargo space for better manuvering"
Citadel
"Meant to be the Freestar Collective's version of the Basilisk, the Citadel-class corvette is designed to be resistant to everything, even rickrolls that would normally cripple or even cook any ship from the inside that doesn't have a computer core hab or a computer science specialist on board to handle it. One might argue that the UC's same-spec (as the Basilisk) military use only Inferno-class is a direct inspiration for the Citadel-class, which instead of being built exlcusively for the UC (and only allowing reproductions of the ship to be handed out onto civilian hands, and even then needs to be sold under the Basilisk name) is instead meant for use by both the Freestar Navy and independent pilots, and is even advertised under the slogan of "the power of an entire fleet in the palm of your hand" or so I thought it would say"
Scythe
"Deimos, for some unknown reason, has built what they decribed as a "star racer" that "can beat anything and everything else in sheer speed". They named it the Scythe, after the Grim Reaper's legendary weapon of choice. The Scythe is an excellent light fighter equipped with an all particle beam loadout and a specially modified version of the White Dwarf 3010 engine, called the White Dwarf 3015, specially crafted by Reladyne to excel in speed and speed only, topping out at 180 m/s for cruising speed, and a speculated 1043 m'/s with boost enabled; and even higher if you know how to directly manipulate the harmonics of the engines on the Scythe or any other ship equipped with the White Dwarf 3015 or any other engine for that matter"
You nailed it on this! Great storytelling.
Don't be surprised if I use some of your ideas here, awesome writing!
Thank you Wizard!! This is the one I’ve been waiting for. Can’t wait to build this beauty!
My pleasure! I know a lot of you have been waiting for a light fighter and I've been saving it for level 60.
Thanks for your patience and support!
In the game files, the 3015 is called experimental. Its the only one with that name. Its intentional to be the fastest.
i wish more of the starship design 4 stuff was labeled experimental if just for lore purposes and cause the skill itself says “allows for usage of experimental modules”
No shit! I did not know that, thank you!
They make you work to achieve those ranks, so it really would make sense. They better consider some kind of legendary or aspirational ship modules for those of us that go down the Starship Design path.
So going to build this right now and add to my fleet. Great vid as always there Wiz!
Thank you! This one might be the highest performing combat ship there is. If you really don’t need any cargo you can save weight there and make it even faster.
WHOOP WHOOP!! Excellent ship. Love it!! Nice small ship but as powerful as the Basilisk?? BASILISK WHO?? 🤪🤪🤪
Excellent work!! Wish I could post a pic ❤
I appreciate you showing the final battle scene. It really shows its capabilities. Thank you sir.
Of course! I feel it is necessary so that I can showcase the ability of my builds and not just the design.
I build go-ers, not show-ers.
Thanks for watching!
This ship looks amazing man. Great work as usual!
Thanks for watching!
I really enjoy (and learn a lot from) your ship build videos. I don't have Razorleaf yet, but I did manage to take an Ecliptic Falcatta III and build using the same parts you've used. I was able to do the same run through the Serpentis system and the Key. Very nice build - fast, mobile and hits hard!
Well hell, now you can watch the Ho to get the Razorleaf guide, then build the basilisk to replace it!
Holy.. I need this ship! Great build!!! Beautiful!
Everyone needs one! Insanely fun to fly.
Thanks for watching again!
Thank you for this! It looks great, and the timing for me couldn't be better. I'm in a fairly new NG+ run. I got the Razorleaf just a few play time hours ago, and I'm about to start Grunt Work. Will be building this later today
My pleasure! I look forward to your feedback once you’ve tried it out.
Thanks for watching!
Hey Wizard. This ship is fun. I melted Varuun ships in Serpentis. Also, I'm sure you know this by now, but the ship tech in Neon has the Pinpoint 3Gs, but not the 4Gs, so you do have to visit the Taiyo showroom
Wiz, you have done it again. Great content!
Thank you good sir! Greatly appreciate the support.
Nice build, now I have one just like it.
Wow! WoW!! WOW!!! I Really like your Builds. This is the one I'm trying first... I really don't normally care for the Mantis. But you've refined it just about perfectly.
I also enjoyed the ship combat you showed... I really need to start using my Xbox controller and learn to fly. Please keep this up, it really helps inspire a noob like me to play this game.
Oh I’m not stopping that’s for sure!
The Scythe and the Citadel alone are a whole fleet. Have fun man and lemme know what you think of them after you’ve flown them.
I've just recently found your channel and I'm loving all the ship builds! Loving all the videos and looking forward to more!
Thank you very much, glad to have you here!
The next one should have been out by now but, holidays and family, you know how it goes. Helion will be out as soon as I can get the edit finished.
Great compact build! Great for roleplay.Thank you!
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
This ship is a beauty, i loved the design!
Much appreciated, thanks for watching!
This one is brilliant, another fantastic job!
Thanks for watching again!
Wowowowowow. Thanks for this guide. Is the best Ship in Starfield 😊
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
I am pumped to build this one and name it, Defiant. That's the ship it looks like to me.
I’ve never gotten into Star Trek myself, but I can see the resemblance. Aside from that, it will defy all opposition so it even makes sense in that regard.
Thanks for watching, and let me know what you think!
Its a great little fighter. Better than my previous one. Handled the Eclipse M class by hitting and running.. maneuvers like crazy.
Right? The speed and handling are incredible. Definitely the most fun ship in my fleet.
Nice build Wizard. I recently overhauled my Razorleaf into a B class as well. It took some figuring out to get to my final product and I'm happy with what I came up with. I only placed 2 weapon groups and it still deleted opposing ships during my test flight in Serpentis. IMO, this ship is a great template to make it something better.
No way I could go without a weapon group, if I can have the firepower I damn well want it hahaha.
Thanks for watching, and for the comment!
Bruh you did a fabulous azz job putting this ship together. Your ship is the shizzzz man, great job!!!!
Much appreciated, and thank you for watching!
This thing is such an absolute beast.
I’ve really only made a couple of tweaks. I kept the original shielded cargo that it had - placed it in the back in the position of the higher “bumper” between the engines - and gave it the one size smaller variant of the fuel tank. Sadly, my maneuverability went down to 96, but it’s such a small difference in flying that I wouldn’t be able to tell much outside of your stopping test haha
With one point into engine speed, and Sam Coe on board… 257 top speed with no boost. It just is so unfair to fly this thing against enemies haha
I’ve made several of your ships. Such a huge fan of the designs and thought that goes into them haha
This is wild. You are the best ship builder around. You should have a million subs. Keep it going, you will get there.
That’s very kind of you! The train’s rollin, and I think the brakes are out!
HOLY CRAP!!! Inside the cockpit, it looks like a laser light show on steroids. I'm on my 2nd game+ with my current character, and I've just made the Mantis mission my very next one to do after seeing this. I built your Frontier upgrade, and I like it much more than my Starborn II ship lol. Love your ships. I now only follow your builds. Keep up the great work.😊
The Scythe is great fun in first person view. Believe it or not, my next build is arguably even cooler in first person view because of the location of the cockpit. If you enjoy this one you will also like the Helion.
When you built the Peregrine in you NG+, did you replace all the core components with better alternatives? I built that at level 14 so I was very limited in terms of module availability.
@WizeOldWizard yes. I built it around the same class B reactor you used on the Scythe and used some better weapons. Wanted more cargo so I maxed it for the weight the landing gear could handle and then added a single Class A engine in place of the Demos belly in the back and got its maneuverability back up to the 90s. Working now on my scanning level so I can setup an outpost mining operation like you showed in your other video.
@shanelowe5278 hell yeah! I need to revisit my earlier builds and upgrade the internals.
The Vytinium Mine will help out a lot with your credit flow.
Outstanding build, I really love this one.
I do too honestly. My only gripe is the limited cargo... Which is why I built the Helion. A fighter with decent cargo, just a bit less speed. Working on that edit already...
@@WizeOldWizard Helion huh? I'm looking forward to it. I don't mind the limited cargo for a ship that is only used in special cases but more is definitely needed for a daily-driver. My Razorleaf has a similar purpose to yours, a combat-only ship, high speed and little cargo. I've rebuilt my Star Eagle into a more general-purpose, research/crafting, heavy fighter. I guess I'll have to capture a couple more for my Scythe and Hellion builds...
You've got some very inspirational ships here, well done!
Great looking build and fun video to watch! Looks like the Razorleaf will be undergoing a redesign…again!
Have you already built the Basilisk in place of the Razorleaf? If so I’d recommend keeping that and building the Scythe over something else. Otherwise you’ll be wasting a bunch of credits.
@@WizeOldWizard no, I used the Razorleaf to make the Hoplite prototype in the Deimos staryard. I already had a big class C with all the habs when I saw the Basilisk. I was going to save it for NG (still in first play through). However, I think I will make the Citadel for my next big ship. Keep up the great work!
Man this little things a beast!! 👍🏾
It is so damn good in combat. The combo of the engines with the weapons is absolutely devastating.
Excellent ship. Love it. I am finally done leveling up my Starborn powers at Level X and have all the requirements since I’m Level 128. Got nice perks that I wanted for my Venator suit so now I am replaying the campaign again and I have Grunt work but not enough credits yet. Soon though 😈
Damn man nice, I haven’t even entered the unity yet. It’s on the agenda though.
My first was the Aetos series. Which were fantastic. Nothing could stop me. Then the basilisk, which was great, but too big for my play style. I found myself getting lost in my own ship. I just built this one as well. Definitely spartan in interior design, but nimble and lethal. Still holds 1800+ cargo if you've maxed out payload skill, and that's without Sam Coe as a crew member. I'll enjoy slicing through the fleet with this one. Well done sir.
As far as balance goes, I think Aetos takes the cake. Lots of interior space, respectable cargo, and with class A engines, it’s easily one of my favorites. The Scythe, on the other hand is all about performance and it shows. For all-out combat effectiveness, this is your ship. The only real drawback is the crew size if your character has max Ship Command.
Damn you have over 1,800 cargo on it too! I really need to put points into Payloads.
Thanks for watching!
I love your builds man! Keep it up!
Thank you! Helion is next, footage capped already. Just need to cut the video.
@@WizeOldWizard This is one I'm def building on the next run. It makes me lol to watch pirates explode when trying to escape the Mantis.
Same! Hahaha nothing can escape the Scythe!
This thing is a beast! I dont think I even need to build the Basilisk!
If you built the Citadel then I agree completely. Those two ships can be a whole fleet by themselves!
Thats sick!
Thanks, it rips!
Please let me say I enjoy your ship builds, I myself are not there as yet. I am at present at level 139 I have a really good ship called the Frontier. It is the one you get at the beginning of the game. However it's had some upgrades applied to her but, she still looks like the original Frontier. I love looking like a pushover in room of Wolves. I like to think my ship is the fast thing in Starfield, so I can back out of trouble quicker than I get into it. All the other ships I come up against are bigger and better then mine, so all I can hope to do is scare them away. Having EM weapons, and the ability to jump 30 light years also helps. What my opposition don't realize is they just let a Hornets Nest into room and there going to become space dust. Bigger isn't always better. You may wish to explore a smaller option in a starship on one of your builds.
This exact video that you commented on is a small ship. It’s only 40m x 38m, which will fit on small landing pads. It only has one more hab than the frontier and that extra one is stacked on top of the other hab.
I have another small one coming very soon too, the Helion.
You always one up me.😄
I just built the "Damos Marauder class" using an Ecliptic class A ship that was built with almost all Damos parts (looks very similar to the Razorleaf). I like the Marauder, but I must admit yours looks better (as usual), and you figured out how to add cargo gracefully (I will be applying your idea). Perfect end game ship when crafting and cargo aren't as necessary. 👍👍
(6 Obliterators beats 4 PBO 175s for DPS)
Only person I’m trying to one-up is myself haha nothing has been as popular as the Basilisk. Guess I won’t know how many people like a ship until I put out the content. Just gotta keep building!
Just so you know, the PBO-175’s are just a bit better in terms of DPS. Here’s the numbers:
PBO-175
19 dmg (x4) =76 x 6.00(rof) = 456 dps
Vanguard Obliterator
11 dmg (x6) = 66 x 6.65(rof) = 438.9 dps
Exterminator 95MeV Auto
26 dmg (x3) =78 x 5.00(rof) = 390 dps
Just finished my build of this one last night... a "bit late" for me to really test it out but looking forward to getting some flying in after work today (weather cooperating)...
Oh man you’re gonna love it! In terms of raw combat performance, this build takes the cake.
Really makes sense!
As Jeremy Clarkston would say, “POWER!”
wish they would let us post pictures here. I added my own flair to the design. I fly my ship first person sometimes so i used the tayo cockpit. Shifted the wings forward 1 stroud mid. added the caps to the bottom as well. THen used a weapon mount above the cockpit instead of the demos. also added nova radiators to the extra space of the shift forward to hide the gas tank and shielded cargo. Love the build. Its what you would expect of a military superiority fighter. Compact with everything you need and nothing you don't. Lots of high octaine guns, shield and maneuverability. I go with black and red since my char is more of an assassin from ryujin.
When I’m finished building the discord server for the channel, that will be where viewers can share everything they want to. Ships, characters, outposts, plushie collections, you name it!
Sounds like you made some pretty cool changes to suit your taste. Can’t wait to see it! The link to join the discord will be up as soon as it’s ready.
Love your builds Wizard! I have built both the Basilisk and Citadel. While I love the light fighter capabilities of this build, I think I will stick with the Basilisk. I like to feel like a destroyer vs heavy cruiser (citadel) or a small but deadly PT boat. Maybe I’ll build both basilisk and this light fighter 😊
You should definitely build this one too and have both in your fleet. I felt like I missed an opportunity with the Basilisk in that it was just entirely scratch-built and not inspired by the Razorleaf. This one is still reminiscent of the original ship, though it is significantly different at the same time.
Thanks for watching!
Nice one, I'll try this out once I hit NG+...if I can ever get the Supernova power first
You’ll find it eventually, definitely get all 24 before NG+!
I just started playing Starfield and am a lowly level 12. Picked up the mantis at level 10. I’ve got a long way to go before I can make SCYTHE. I CANNOT WAIT. The combat footage was jaw dropping.
Yo! Build the Peregrine, then go get the Star Eagle and build Aetos! Great early and mid game ships. Aetos II at lvl 43, then the Citadel at 49. The rest are level 60+.
If you need credits, my Outpost Guide shows you how you can build a vytinium mine as early as level 14.
Thanks for watching!
@@WizeOldWizard will do! 👍👍👍
@glyph2011 dang and you just reminded me that I need to reorder my Archive playlist chronologically according to level.
That's a gorgeous ship
Thank you! It is for sure the highest performing one that I’ve built. Absolute blast to fly.
@@WizeOldWizard I'm going to copy your design the next time I get to play.
I was working on my own large shit design trying to make a flatter, wider version of the Space Shuttle. Black and white colour scheme, solar panels etc using nova galactic and some minor other additions from other designers. Happy with mmthe result so far. Looking forward to turning my own Razorleaf into the beast you've created 👌🏻
Based on what you’re saying you’re trying to build, you might like the Basilisk, if you haven’t watched it.
@@WizeOldWizard the basilisk? I'll give it a watch. Thanks man
@scottimusmaximus4360 it was my first build guide, but it is like you describe, low and wide. You’ll dig it.
@11:34 I'm pretty sure it's intentional as if you look at the engine health (which indicates how long it can survive taking damage before it fails), it's much lower than it's counterparts. So because it's behind Starship Design rank 4 (for experimental parts), it would make sense for both in-game mechanics and lore. As in it's an experimental engine that's not quite as robust as a full production engine.
You’re right, and I agree. It is definitely intentional and we need more parts like this. Bigger performance gains to reward the investment of ship skills.
Man!! Random zero gravity did a different version of the basilisk and almost caught smoke but he gave you full credit for the original build so we good 😂
I saw that, he’s a cool dude no worries. Good lookin out though!
So interesting thing.. I’m not fond of how far it sticks out… but if you swap out for the Viking cockpit.. you can bump crew size to 8. Also, if you go low on the grav drive (mass wise), it’s possible to actually up your cargo just slightly if you absolutely need - wo losing diddly for maneuverability. Either way.. this is still my favorite build of yours. Its ability to get you into or out of some crap.. with proper weapons.. is DAMN nice. On my ng+ jumps, I’ve been rebuilding the frontier into this just so I don’t have to use the lam starborn ship. Smh
That’s a great idea for extra crew space! I wanted to keep this build at 40 m long or less, but it would be cool to let go of that and add in all the habs and crew that you need while maintaining this level of performance.
So.. with payload at tier 4, by replacing the polo cargo modules w the cargo modules rated for 1400’ish, and 3 shielded cargo modules at 320 ea… you can get the basilisk up to just over 9K cargo and still 98 mobility. Makes a damn good hauler for say an AMP farm. Also still had enough umph for defending itself. This however… might wind up my new plundering ship. This is damn nicely done!
The Scythe is PERFECT for boarding. Its speed and mobility puts everything else to shame though, you may never want to fight in any other ship again!
Great job balancing the Basilisk. I’ll be using the Citadel for an optimized cargo hold, and will keep my Basilisk lighter for dedicated combat duty. Once I have max Payloads, the Citadel will be at 10.5k cargo at 95 mobility. Perfect for a destroyer-class ship.
On the Xbox, the white dwarf 3015 doesn’t seem to go to 180 on my series x for whatever reason. However, I found some re-engineering the tail and using 4330’s x 4 - does wonders. At appx 1015 mass, it will clock in around 950 or so. Still love the basilisk.. it’s beastly.. but the firepower and raw speed on the scythe.. w the ability to put distance between you and the enemy so you don’t get swarmed - is damn nice and something the basilisk just can’t do due to the class C engines and the mass. Still a damn amazing build though.
Did you equip ONLY the 3015’s?
@@WizeOldWizard if memory serves. I may have to go back and double check. Either way, that lightened build w even 150’s still cruises at 230 and hauls butt when you need it to
@WatchedZ01 I just know that the game still displays 150 if you have any other class A engine still on the ship. But if you’re right, that sucks and would mean it’s unintentional. That extra speed is nuts, it makes the Helion feel sluggish.
damn...1000 percent building this
You won’t regret it!
I played around with this build for a little bit last night in order to use a class c reactor for weapons and shield. Had to extend the ship with nova bracers since I put the 8Z(?) reactor on the back. With those mods and I can't remember if I did away with all cargo or kept the 200cm shielded cargo holds, but it had a mobility of 85 which isn't terrible. Usually I don't like storing things on the ship because I simply keep all resources in the unlimited hold in the Lodge and take it all and huff it down to the spaceport. I am addicted to class C features and this thing's speed, so a little compromise is in order. :)
Interesting… You don’t like this weapons loadout eh? Which class C weapons are you using?
@@WizeOldWizard Oh no! I do! I actually was still using the 175 Helion Beams and Obliterators, but I wanted to see what it would be like with a class C reactor and the big boy 250MeV Alpha Beams along with the Assurance 1800 shield. I didn't get into ship building or dog fighting in ships until I was already into Class C stuff so I've never tried anything other than. I've done that with about every ship I have. Just like to tinker.
Gotcha, choice is yours of course. I prefer the DPS, and to me a reactor with only 1 less power and a shield with only 100 less capacity is pretty good balance. I tried using the class C particle beams but they just don’t quite keep up with those autos. However, when you need turrets, the class C’s are the only way to go.
@@WizeOldWizard Before I did this I had no idea a class c reactor would add any mass. :)
Haha yeah they’re definitely weighty modules, that’s another reason the 104 DS is so good. It allows you to use all of nearly the best stuff while saving a bunch of weight for fighter builds. My thought is, unless you need class C engines, there’s no need for a class C reactor.
Another great build! I hope that the devs release some new ship parts in 2024. What parts would you like to see if you could choose?
Luxury modules, ground vehicle bay/workshop, a whole new set of structural modules for new shapes. Elevators! I can think of a ton.
yesssssss! a more compact colossus!
the roleplaying is great as far as the ship goes! dude... i enjoy the ship-building part of the videos, but the dogfighting part is my fav now... at first i was all about the interior of the ship for the roleplaying but now i really enjoy your combat footage, the swift destruction you bring about... its amazing!(again!)
great video bro, keep em coming!
i have a huge request... mind showing us how to not delete the turrets in the datura, all while customizing it? i kinda like the turrets bugging out and shooting the crew as theyre walking around but if you start customizing it, the turret disappears, SADLY!
I was thoroughly enjoying the cutting up the combat for this one. It becomes almost comical how quickly this ship makes the ships pop hahaha.
You know what's funny about your Datura request is that I actually did capture it already, and it's just sitting waiting to be used. I will see if I can make changes and retain those. I hadn't even thought about the interior turrets, great suggestion!
@@WizeOldWizard hey man!
hope you have a great new years and i hope that all of your goals and dreams come to flourish!
hope to see more of your builds/ship combat videos with the wittiness about them next year ©.X
@@CRAZOR2307 thank you very much and I hope yours was great as well.
I definitely have a lot of work to do this year and I hope that by this time next year we’ve got some new game assets to play with and consoles have mod support. Fingers crossed!
Another great looking build.
The Razorleaf has been collecting dust for too many levels now.
I will have to modify it some as I have to have the front entryway but that's minor.
I like that choice of weapons. Will definitely give that a try.
Thanks for sharing!
Front bay might be tough with this one, plus the ship’s so small it wouldn’t make much of a difference anyway. Anything’s possible, I just dislike slapping weapons all over the outside of the ship. I prefer them to look like their attachments weren’t afterthoughts.
The next guide I’m going to make is for the Helion, which you could easily switch to a front landing bay.
Thanks for watching again!
I had to glitch the razorleaf docker to fit, but it looks badass with the stroud viking cockpit. Adds 4 crew spots, without the need of an added hab. Class B reactor, shield, and weapons, and put a white dwarf where the docker was in back. Still has the same shape, and small footprint. But the engine only makes up for the added mass. The 180 speed from swapping them all out would be nice, but I still melt everything
I get a serious starship Defiant vibe with this vessel. I've already created a destroyer-sized vessel with my Razorleaf (via CMDR Eagle 131), but I need a small, deadly fighting machine like this!
Oh nice, I definitely would not recommend tearing down a big ship and wasting all those credits, but you can build this ship over anything else you have sitting around. It’s absolutely nasty in combat.
@@WizeOldWizard I got the Wanderwell from Pops; 😂
She’ll get a makeover!
@pdexBigTeacher perfect! I don’t know anything about that ship as the Kid Stuff trait is a waste in my opinion. Is it a good ship?
@@WizeOldWizard It's a decent complement to the Frontier if you're in your 30's-40's. 800 cargo, 30LY, 150 speed, only a crew of 2 (armory and capt's quarters).
Just flight tested her out in Serpentis....hot damn! In the words of Commander Riker, "That's one tough little ship."
Holy crap! Nuf said

Thanks for watching!
Yes! Another ship for the fleet. This will make five of your ships. You gotta stop at ten tho cause if I have to delete one of these ships that I’ve come to love as my children I will un sub. To be honest I almost cheated on you and built some other guys ship cause it looked so damn cool, but realized he didn’t do his homework and the ship was garbage out side of aesthetics. I learned my lesson I’m diehard loyal now, WIZARD ONLY BABY. 🎉
Nah come on man, don't JUST build my ships! Even if you like the look of another creator's ship, you can still take from my content in the sense of performance.
I will not stop at ten, you're just going to have to make a save that you never delete from your original universe. I will be the reason that you build more than ten ships. Mark my words...
Thanks for watching again! You're going to have an absolute blast flying the Scythe.
How are you making so much money to build them all?
Not a joke - just genuinely curious. I want all of them too. Built this one today
@r6TrdSlow I sell raw vytinium using the mine outpost in this guide:
th-cam.com/video/-Zr0QXop8ak/w-d-xo.html
Easy to get running and all you have to do is sleep to fill up the storage. Empty the storage and go sell it all.
I will also soon be releasing a companion guide to that one, where I also use the mined vytinium as part of an Automated Vytinium Fuel Rod manufacturing operation.
@@WizeOldWizard bless you my friend. Bless you.
Unless you’re on console. I steal ships in Serpentis and the sell them using the un registered glitch. Make about 90,000 per tier 3 ship
What planet/moon do you have your outpost (in this video) on? It looks nice! By the way, you have a new sub in me, I've learned a ton just watching 2 of your vids...Awesome work Chief!
Thank you! I don’t want to reveal the location yet, I’m going to make it a part of my next video. But I’m going to show it and some others.
Thanks for watching!
Now, this is a decent ship. Well rounded, looks good, max speed/mobility/firepower- Frank approves 😁🖕
Mr. Castle, this weapon was designed to punish all those that stand against you.
I just found your channel, and you have a new sub! This build is epic, but too expensive for me right now, lol. I just got the game for Christmas and have been playing it ever since.
Can you do like a budget, lower-level Class A or B build without Starship Design Level 4? I'm Level 20 or 21, and have Piloting 3 (B Class) and Starship Design level 2 (I think), but that's it. I know it won't be near as powerful or fast, but yeah. It doesn't have to be based on the Mantis either. I have the Star Eagle and Wanderwell too. I would like to see more budget-oriented and/or smaller ship builds in the future.
Peregrine and Aetos are both level 14 and Class A and no Starship Design.
Eventually, budget will be no issue, and I even have a guide that can help you with that! Build the Vytinium mine featured in my outpost guide and you’ll always be able to make all the credits you need.
Thanks for watching!
@@WizeOldWizard okay cool, I'll check those out. Thanks!
Great now i gotta build another ship..
Not a bad problem to have…
Everytime i start watching something stupid one of Wize's clips appears and I change straight away for some normality 😊
Ain’t no way… No way I’m the sane one!
Wizard, can you do a guide on how to unlock every ship part in the game at the landing pad? I'm really loving your videos but I can't build a cool ship to save my life lol. I built the Basilisk II 5 times and now the citadel.
If there was a way to have everything unlocked at an outpost pad, I would happily detail what that requires. Unfortunately (unless you know something that I don’t) there is no way to achieve this currently. Even the mods that I have seen, seem to have no effect on the outpost pad, but it’s been some time since I even looked at what was available. Once mods are out on console then I can freely use them without leaving the console players shit out of luck.
You created the Defiant
I think someone else has mentioned that as well, and I was not familiar with that ship prior to that. I’ve never gotten into Star Trek. I can see the resemblance in the nose for sure.
Thanks for watching!
@@WizeOldWizard Mostly that it's a little ship with high maneuverability and lots of firepower. I heard someone refer to them as a "Fighting Ship". Not a fighter, per se, as those are 1-2 man vessels, but a larger actual ship too small to be called a cruiser, even.
@psudodrake oh got it, that explanation makes a lot more sense. I hate losing all the ship buffs from crew, but if I really wanted to stay within the Mantis’ lore I’d have kept it as a 2-man.
This ship is not for raider and simple cargo pirates but to test the most evil empire allegiance stat of alternate galaxies...
NICE 😅😅😅
im gonna build this and try to take down that big Eclipse M class ship.
Oh you’ll enjoy the hell out of that!
Just make a save before you do it so you can go back and take it down with other ships.
Thanks for watching!
I've been trying to find the right way to tweak my razorleaf since I got it. This is the best looking option I've seen for sure. I switched mine to the 4 crew viking cockpit, along with some stroud hab swaps. Gives it more of an urban camo paint job... But, I can't figure out the right way to add 2 more habs, along with the engine swap, and still keep it from getting too big. Especially without giving up my front loading entryway... They aren't giving us much options yet
I’ve considered this, and there really isn’t a way to add more than 1 hab without really changing the shape.
If you delete the Deimos Skegs under the engines, you can move the two lower engines down where those were. Then take the grav drive and place it right behind the reactor. Now you can add a hab module on the side where the grav drive was, and the ship is still the same size.
Does the Viking cockpit increase the length of the ship over 40 m?
@WizeOldWizard No. Just extends it 1 spot, once you flip the landing bay to the front, from the original layout. With the control station hab, gives me 8 crew slots. And still leaves me captain's quarters. Gives it a better look than the original cockpit too.
The only thing I would change on this is I want aome rear facing auto-turrets and that means a C reactor as well. But that is a good ship.
Turrets would be a complete waste on a ship this fast. Anytime I fly it, enemies have a very difficult time even landing shots. Now, my next ship would benefit from some turrets for sure, but I still run it just fine with my favorite PBO-175, Vanguard Obliterator, and Vanguard Hellfire loadout.
Thanks for watching!
For me, I end up letting some behind me in the big battles (like Kryx) and the rear facing auto fire turrets save my butt 😃
@JohnnyHughes1 I totally feel that on a heavy ship, 100%. Have you built the Scythe yet?
I’d like to see your take on a heavy outpost platform build like creator CMDR EAGLE 131.
Actually scratch that there’s no use in the game for anything like that. Carry on
The Citadel is basically that except it looks nice!
Hi. I usually rebuild my Razorleaf to this one or your Helion. Do you have any suggestions on how to make it more mantis-Y looking? Much the way Batman vehicles look more Bat-Y 😁 thanks for the great build videos.
Lift the cockpit up above the ‘arms’ and have the arms drop down towards the front. Extend the central portion of the fuselage rearward. All of this would add mass so you’d lose cargo or have to use different engines.
Oh and maybe paint it green? Haha cheers man!
Starborn ships go weeeee
Looks amazing, but I can’t give up cargo space. I wish this had at least 4k of cargo space.
Listen, it’s ridiculous how people come up with excuses like this as justification for not building a ship.
I have a suggestion for you:
1: go build the Bristleback and FILL UP THE CARGO COMPLETELY. (Good luck though)
2: Build the Scythe, fly it to the vendor of your choice, and notice that they Scythe’s cargo hold has access to EVERYTHING you stuffed into the Bristleback.
Also, the Helion is coming next, which is also a fighter but it has 2600 cargo. That’s more than enough to take exploring.
This ship as all about speed, and the limitation of these engines is in their hauling capacity, or lack thereof.
You would like the Citadel…
@@WizeOldWizard a little rude but I’ll bite. My ship I have is a custom built designed be Hawkes Gaming. It’s a class c with 4120 base cargo, 29/30 ly range and 130 top speed. I sit typically around 3700 cargo with stuff I find to sell, resources and weapons to keep. I do tend to hoard scrap since I usually play FO76 so I have that grab everything mentality. I like the way this ship looks and I like the power house in weaponry but I wouldn’t be able to pick anything up resource wise and store it because I would max out the cargo just switching to this.
Apologies, hadn’t had my coffee yet!
I do get a fair amount of comments saying ‘I’d build this IF…’ and I just want everyone to know that not every ship needs to have everything. In the case of the Scythe, it is purely a fighter because of the engines. So when you just feel like some space battles, you can hop in that thing and decimate everything. Then when you need something for hauling and exploration or prospecting, hop in something like the Citadel.
But, like I said, I do have a fighter coming soon that has a useable cargo hold.
I was like you at first, but after building and flying it, I’m here to tell you that it’s absolutely incredible. I hope you give it a shot!
Can you do a Frontier rebuild? Not sure if you already have one.
I do indeed! It’s the Peregrine, just keep in mind that my choices in that build were based on a level 14 character. You’ll be able to replace my weapon and reactor choices based on your level.
Cool build. Would it be possible to fit the damos 8crew bridge on this? Also I think you should use the vanguard B class ballistic cannons. They destroy ships without shields in less than a second. Since this ship is fast is should be better than pure PB weapons
I dropped the three MeV95s for six VG Hellfire Autocannons on one of my builds. They absolutely shred. 810 hull DPS w/ a full loadout.
@@N-Soc88 ya they are so good once the shields are gone, plus you get 6 guns for extra crew slots. Win win
I do need to try them out, the main reason I haven't is because of the range limitation, 1/3rd the effective ranges really limits combat flexibility. I haven't felt like my TTK is lacking at all plus taking away one group of particle beams will increase the time it takes to down shields. I will give them a shot though.
Thanks for the suggestion!
@@WizeOldWizard you will probably really like them. They do also shoot farther than 800m but the damage falls off. Looking forward to what you make next!
@ForgottenTryhard Helion is up next!
Smaller ships are more fun since the game truly is 'single player. Big ships were fun to build at first, but there is no where to go in this game with them so the nostalgia wears off quickly.
I humbly and respectfully disagree, the larger ships are more challenging to pilot in a multi-target space encounter. The light ships like the Scythe are of course an absolute blast to fly, but they make space combat almost trivial. I also like ships that have a commanding presence.
I’m confused about when you said “there is nowhere to go with them”, what did you mean by that?
@@WizeOldWizard I guess 500 hours later I'm just not as hyped as I was in Skyrin 8000 hours later
Ah, well I can only speak for myself, but 700 hours in and I’m more stoked than ever. This is a longer game than Skyrim with all the building and NG+ ranks to get through for full powers. I’ve taken all my ships to countless places and space fights never get old. I haven’t even found all the missions there are to complete, haven’t collected a single snowglobe, hell I haven’t even completed a full fleet of ship builds yet.
If you’re bored, so be it. But, my advice would be to just go somewhere you haven’t been and see what’s there. Sights, points of interest, maybe some base. Or go do some misc quest you’ve ignored. Go talk to any named NPC at any location. There’s no possible way you’ve done everything in 500 hours.
How do you have a jump range of 30LY?
I'm following you to the letter, but it only shows a jump range of 24
Rank 4 of Astrodynamics.
@@WizeOldWizard I thought the ship builder showed the based values?
@DreddPirateRoberts same, but that would be the only thing making a difference. I used the Aurora 13g grav drive, so if you’ve got the same one, then Astrodynamics is the culprit.
Wize old Wizard there's a mission that's extremely bugged when using a custom ship. The old NASA satellite built into a new ship mission. I'm at a loss at what should I should keep original for that mission.
I’m not familiar with the mission you refer to. What’s the actual name of the mission?
@@WizeOldWizard Juno's Gambit, it's a Ryujin side quests. Activate after you kill a lone eclipse marc ship. But I often hear it's bugged and won't activate if you have a customized ship. @leaaronsanchez oh right! I did that one many hours ago, and I was likely flying either Aetos or the Citadel, and I did not experience any bugs.
@@WizeOldWizard I found out about the bug by Kottabos playthrough. He experienced it.
And... I'm Done! Starborne Beware. 😎
Shit you finished this build before I responded to your last comment hahaha
Question; I noticed that you have a green power pip in your engine column. What’s the meaning behind that? I had that on one of my ships in a prior play through but I couldn’t figure out what it meant 🤔
There are two potential crew members that can give you one of those green bars. Sam Coe gives you a free pip in Engines, and Omari Hassan gives you a free pip in Shields. And if you have them both, you get both of those pips free.
In the vanilla game, the maximum amount of pips you can have is 48. 40 from one of the two reactors with 40 power, 5 from Aneutronic Fusion skill, a crew member with Aneutronic Fusion, and the two free pips from Sam and Omari.
So I put the fuel tank in the back where that cargo hood is, and put my cargo where the fuel tank was
And… What is your cargo capacity and fuel capacity at now?
@@WizeOldWizard fuel is at 210, and cargo is around 1560 (but that’s after the payload perk)
@assfish111 you may notice a bit of hassle with just 210 fuel, but if you don’t mind that then awesome! I tried that configuration first and got annoyed with the fuel range.
So this is Still an end game ship; since you have to be lvl 60 to get all the parts
It is. I was saving this one for level 60, because I knew I would need the 104ds reactor. Maximum combat effectiveness.
The engines don't do 180 any longer.
Yes they do. If you have ANY other engine in the builder it will show the speed of the slowest engine.
Commerce??..... why?
Because I like free credits. Also when you’re selling 1 million credits worth of goods at once, that bonus makes a big difference. Payloads is the other skill that really helps with bulk sales.
Why do you do this to me? What have I done to deserve such hate. There’s only one Razerleaf and now I have to choose between either the Basilisk or the Scythe? ITS NOT FAIR WIZARD I DESERVE BOTH!!! WE ALL DESERVE BOTH 😭😭😭😭😭😭
🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
“Easily be built if you already used the Razerleaf for something else”. Don’t LIE to me Wizard!!! 🤨
🤣🤣
I’m not lyin! Try it and see! Either ship can be built over whatever you want, and honestly the Scythe makes more sense as the Razorleaf. It’s supposed to be a redesign as opposed to a completely rebuilt replacement.
You absolutely deserve both, so build them both! Sorry I don’t know how to dupe the Razorleaf, because I agree. But then it wouldn’t be unique.
@@WizeOldWizard haha. No worries I’m teasing. 🫣🤭. I think my issue is the anxiety over having a hard time getting the landing bay that was unique to the Razerleaf when I last built the Basilisk. It was a pain but lesson learned. I think I’m going to build the scythe first simply because I like smaller ships but I still love the comfort and piece of mind with a big class C ship such as the Bas so I will definitely build both. It would be so good to have faster way to get money in Starfield. The ship building is one of the very few things (together with the OST) I like in this otherwise bland, boring game.
Build the Vytinium Mine in my Outpost Guide. Easy setup and very profitable, it's how I've funded this entire playthrough, including five ship builds.
Ya'll are sleepin on that one. Probably my fault haha.
@@WizeOldWizarddo you have to be in NG+ to do that?
Not at all! Can be built at level 14. Check out the guide!
Your opinion don't, state it as a fact..... This is one of my favourite games of all time
@@amitansurkar1769 Starfield *_IS_* boring in comparison with *_ANY PREVIOUS GAME MADE BY BETHESDA GAME STUDIOS!_* It's not my fault or my problem if you are foolish enough to enjoy wasting time walking through empty, boring planets full with the same randomly chosen dungeons. The only good things about Starfail are the ship building, the OST and the habitable worlds that you explore.
Why are you making a level 60 craft of the Mantis, since you can get the mantis right after you get to the base and to to the woman and start your quest, that quest chain will get you to the link to the Mantis and I forget how lower your level will be but it won't be high unless you're on your x-resume run like I am so when you say level 60, I can just say done... however I'm not so good at money making and I really do hate the mantis cargo space and 1000 doesn't excite me since the other free ship has much better storage. And many say fuck storage, and I say no, because this game is fucked up and when you switch ships your cargo in the small spaceship will be 100% full, which I hate. If cargo would just stay in the ship it is in then OK, I could agree cargo space isn't such a big deal but that isn't how this game works, and maybe the game won't fill your cargo I'm not 100% sure on that since I have not really tested it. Having said all that I do like the mantis and have liked it for ages. So thanks for the build, now I have to go earn more money :)
The base Razorleaf is trash. I chose to save this build until all ship modules were unlocked. No need for cargo on every ship, you just need one with a huge cargo capacity for when you need it.
I have two guides that can help you earn credits easily, and having a ship with massive cargo makes that easier. I built the Slab, 129,120 equipped cargo capacity. With skills and crew that increases to 213k. When I fill it with manufactured Vytinium Fuel Rods, that’s 2.5 million credits with Commerce 4.
The Scythe is my most devastating combat ship, and that was the goal. Couldn’t have done it before level 60.
That's not a scythe. Thats a BRICK.
It looks tedious and boring. Same as half the other "designs" on TH-cam. YAWN.
Thanks for leaving a comment! I checked your channel for builds, wasn’t surprised to find nothing there. If you think you can do better, man up and do it!
