    I just discovered HEWN this week, and in the point of Chace’s comment below, I shared with my wife-and favorite carving partner (and my finishing gal ;)-just last night: “Babe! Found this channel, wherein the feller presents serious and technical skills building intell, but the production and aesthetic of his videos are so flipping relaxing and cool, we would sun and watch, even if we didn’t care or participate in this list art!” Having viewed a few, she concurs! 😊 Thanks, mate, for all of the great work!

    Hey, I just found your videos and they’re great. I live in a van with my boyfriend and travel and have decided I want to start carving spoons from places we have traveled too. So I look forward to more of your videos 😊

    veeeeery helpful video. Been carving for a little bit, but only blocks of wood from the craft store lol. Haha going to get creative as you mentioned and talk to my neighbors. Also nice editing and tones, makes it even that much more enjoyable to watch :)

    You are a man after my own heart! I live in the New Forest and, while taking wood is frowned upon here, I have no qualms about taking windfall wood, and have my little helper ( a battery powered chainsaw) to help me cut the bits I need! I do woodturning as a hobby, and like to think I am recycling wood that would otherwise go to waste

    Excellent videography. I just got my spoon carving set two weeks ago. Thx for taking us along in the woods. Maybe a follow up video showing some ways to tell what's worth taking and what to leave behind? Thx.👊

    Here where I live there are HUGE piles of firewood. Not green but lovely grain and colours. The heartwood is a beautiful pink.

    I just got a truckload of free firewood from craigslist. Its all green elm and cottonwood but has a number of projects hiding in there.
    I have an old 1 man crosscut saw I sharpened, and it works great, but for smaller logs on longer hikes I'd go for a Silky saw...

    I tried...but its really really hard! ;)...
    best I can do .
    Brilliant vid...so well put together...deserves so many views! Totally agree that it adds to the whole process...sourcing and foraging for wood is never a chore and never the same trip twice. I spend too long explaining where it came from.. how I got it...how long it took me to carve before selling it for far to little or giving them away.... But better used .
    Love your work ...top man .

    I came here to learn what type of tree to use. I did not learn this. (Fun video though)

    • @HewnSpoon
      @HewnSpoon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The answer to that is you can use pretty much any broadleaved tree. Some of my favourites would be birch, alder, sycamore, hazel, willow, apple, beech, walnut, cherry, pear, hawthorn, holly… use whatever you have.
