Aloha Andrea!! I got my new Contrology springs too. Im so in love! I have 2 Reformers, one is Gratz, the other is a Tirado. So here is what I noticed; no matter how much I use my seat and stomach, the Gratz spring bar rolls when the carriage is all the way closed and makes a banging noise. The Tirado spring bar does not move and so, does not make that extra banging sound when the carriage is all the way closed. And heres the reason why- and i got this info from James btw- the spring bar holder should be lower down so that the springs are at an angle,. this gives the springs more room to close all the way without disturbing the spring bar and making that extra yucky banging noise. The Tirado Reformer has the spring bar holder lower down so all you hear is that distinctive “shuunck” of the springs closing all the way, it’s so lovely, Dont know why Gratz raised up the spring bar holder but they were originally designed lower down in their older models. James says you can switch out the springbar holder, im in the process of investigating how i can make that change. Until then, im loving my new springs on my Tirado. Xoxo -Arlene
Arlene! I notice this bar "looseness" too on my Reformer (Basil). Please let us know details if you swap out the springbar holder and what differences you experienced! :)
Arlene!! Thank you so much for sharing here. Yes, I examined my spring bar, and my Reformer - purchased in 2010 - has the shallow grooves. Just looking at it considering the potential for the deeper grooves I can see how the rolling will be minimized. The groove plates which hold the spring bar in place are separate pieces which are screwed to the bottom of the frame - it looks like a simple change to make if one can swap it out. Are there really any simple changes LOL? Please share any more insight from James Crane that you have and keep us updated if you make changes to your Reformer that you enjoy. The Gratz archival Reformer has the deeper grooves and I thought I could purchase the part separately to change out on my Reformer... perhaps James has the same parts? Miss you! Hope to see you at Vintage Grad Camp ;)
I also have them! I am so thankful you posted this. I was wondering about the spring bar roll and if that was just my Gratz or if everyone has the same experience. I tried these just one time and set them back in the box, I’m not sure how I feel about them, keep or resell? I also accidentally ordered the exact same long neck springs from Gratz and they are still not unboxed. I have been out of town, now maybe too much time has passed for a exchange. 🤔 I hope not….
Yes I had some issue with the rolling of the spring bar when I put the Contrology springs on my Gratz from 2010. A lot depends on the other mechanics of your Reformer and in what era it was made - how deep the grooves are that the spring bar sits in - there is one change I did not try - which I was told may take up the extra "length" and minimize the roll of the spring bar: the metal bar that the springs hook into under the carriage could be turned around to give just a bit more space for the spring to live in - but in any case, I am sure you could resell the Contrology springs if you cannot use them... not sure if they would give you store credit tho at BB... maybe worth the ask? Thank you so much for watching Natalie :) xox
@@PilatesAndrea my Gratz is from the 70’s. It’s amazing! Since it’s still original and so special, I do not wish to actually change anything on it. I’ll likely pass these along to another friend who has a newer one and will likely use your advice to make them work for hers. Thank you again for the great advice and sharing your wealth of knowledge with us!❤️
LOVED this ... especially the segment where you are connecting the springs ... just wanted to post a comment bubble that said, "Wonder Woman!" complete with music.
Ok I swear I replied to this comment before but it seems to have vanished from YT - I loved you comment about the Wonder Woman theme music - I love that and yes you need that to help lift up that heavy Reformer carriage LOL Thank you so much for watching Mary Beth - I owe you an email so stay tuned for that - we need a catch up for sure! xox
Andrea, Oh I love you so much. 😍. (LOL"s. 😂 you are so funny! Okay as you fast forward through that but I am so glad you did. 😁. So should I buy a pair? You have peeked my interest. Hugs, Elizabeth Brown Meier
Hi Elizabeth! I really love the way these springs feel in the body. They make you feel stretchy like the springs and are a great companion to the 2-way stretch concept. I feel like you can lift and open your body into the various points of contact one has with the Reformer during the exercises if that makes sense. I hope you are well and that we can see each other soon. Do you know I will be teaching in Charlotte NC in October? I know that is not super close to you but Joel Crosby is in the Atlanta area and will be attending, so I thought I would mention it. Otherwise maybe our Pilates paths will cross again soon :) xox
There is no crying in Pilates! I heart you so much. Thank you for sharing your unboxing so informatively!
Thank you so much Tracy! Yes! There is no crying in Pilates... LOL. Hope you are well and maybe see you at the PMA this year? I hope so. xox
