Why were Canadian soldiers not fully trained before going to theatre?

I’ll try to keep the length manageable because it’s a topic you could write a futile essay on, but the problems currently affecting our military are a inherited result of generations of complacent neglect. Reading some of the comments here about recruitment, retention, and strength issues it sounds familiar and isn’t that new. Even 2 decades ago before the current issues there were similar problems. They’ve just been exacerbated and made worse by the current government, but they were somewhat always there. The biggest issue with our military is rooted deeply in the culture of Canadian society. Especially when so many of our citizens, especially in large cities where votes tend to have more influence, just cannot relate to the military or a service member. Service is not that common in Canada. We are not like the US where a greater portion of their population knows someone or is related to someone, directly or indirectly, who is or has served, and therefore they have that connection and it’s a lot more personal. I’m not saying either is right or wrong but that’s the reality. We have people saying we need to support the forces, increase funding, etc, etc. However I truly believe when many, not all, but enough, are asked for that to be reflected in their taxes they say otherwise. Although we have other tax issues now, but I digress and that’s another discussion. But that historically has been my observation. The other main factor is the military system in Canada is very reflective of our government. So when I say it’s culturally an issue, what I also mean is we have a culture of bureaucracy in our government which is heavily reflected in our military. We are obsessed with under prioritizing efficiency and effectiveness with heavily coating everything with liberal applications of red tape. This post has gone long enough but like I said there are enough issues to write a thesis essay on it.

Training in theater for soldiers et al is essential to maintain morale and physical fitness...a general esprit du Corp. I don't know why the theatrics around this must continue. Training should never stop. A continously keening and raising of the bar for reservists. New recruits should be brought in even when they have not chosen a particular trade program. They can have time to figure that out as they go. That one facet is what is causing a loss of members in combat arms. The must have a plan and destination in mind is in my opinion a flawed approach to recruitment. Canada pays significant wages into the 6 figures for Sargents WOs and CWOs, the should be mentoring and reviewing recruits in away that helps create a flow to success, hopefully that is happening already.
Leadership, and inverse leadership...I am valued and expectations are hight for me. Everyone seems to care, or they don't really seem to care probably I shouldn't also. If you can follow that analogy.

I applied for the airforce. By the time they got back to me for the first time I was half way through a private flight school. That system could be quicker for sure.

After the 08 recession I applied 4x as a combat engineer, willing to take any combat trade. The first year I applied it closed immediately, the second year they only hired 12 people, 3rd year by the time they processed my paper work for a medical all hiring was done, 4th time the recruiter said "I would like to hire you, but you don't check a box".
I am now a dual ticketed tradesman. Master electrician and carpenter.
That was before Trudeau, I can only imagine what it's like now.

Competency has always been out greatest strength because, let's face it, we never had the numbers. Now this. In the 90s, as a veh tech, we had at least 3 years of training before being qualified ( with gaps, more like 4) and that's to a basic level, generally took another couple of years before competency. So that's your first enlistment. Now I'm hearing troops under 2 being deployed. Cutting training time makes less trained troops and more mistakes especially in the field.

I spoke to the Minister of Defense. You have to train the Canadian army in order to open roads between the forests to protect the forests from fires, as well as in order to save people. This is the easiest thing for the Canadian army to do, and it has not done anything. The majority of employees in the Canadian government count the hours and take money in order to obtain... Retirement does not care about the future of others, and this is the economic and political failure in Canada, America and Europe, and you are now paying the price, an unproductive consumer country's The Ministry of Defense must build industrial companies in order to absorb the unemployed, old and young, of all ages. The Canadian law must be changed. Every Canadian must work in the army for a year or two, whether old or young, and he must travel to many cities in Canada in order to learn... Canada This is the futures Many employees in the intelligence service, in the Canadian army, and in the Canadian government do not work from a sincere heart to serve society. They work only in order to obtain retirement, and this is a big mistake. Likewise, train lines must be built with all Canadian cities and Canadian villages, and transportation must be provided. The Canadian Minister of Defense did nothing, and the Canadian government did not do anything. Didn't do anything's

The thought of every able bodied man and woman having mandatory Canadian military service is a nice sentiment, but our military is so under staffed, we do not have enough instructors let alone the bandwidth for recruiters to take on such an undertaking.
